I actually think a reserve role in the big leagues could be a pretty good way of developing a catching prospect. It lets them work with the big boy pitching staff, get their feet wet, see somewhat regular playing time.

It's not like other bench roles. Not at all.

And we don't need him to hit at all. And even then, I doubt he'd hit worse than Thole. McGuire profiles as a backup/fringe regular for me, I see no reason to make him do a full year at AAA when he could fill that role for us almost immediately at league minimum salary.

That may be true for his defense, but it significantly reduces the chance that we unlock the full potential in his bat in my opinion.

They shouldn't be wishing and hoping that his bat blossoms at this point. If it happens, it will be a nice surprise. It very likely won't though.

There was only one count. I thought spectrum guys were good at counting.

Best to walk away. You only lose if you use mental disability as a form of ridicule.

Edit: and no, I don't believe Grant has a mental disability. And even if he did, I would still treat him with respect and certainly not use it against him.

I've been riling Grant up and then walking away for like 8 years, it's a long-held passion of mine. Don't take that away from me.

Well that went right over your head.

But, would we really be happy with a 1 WAR improvement over Thole on D, with a Thole bat? From a guy with the potential to be an above average regular? Generally, MiLB is better for developing skills. McGuire needs at least 1 more year of seasoning.

You should have been man enough to take that Beltran wager, you could be trolling my signature right now.

His age, solid bat speed, and strong K/BB ratios give me reason for optimism. He's holding his own at age 21 in AA, I don't know what people expect.

Isn't he in AA?

They probably expect someone with a 94 wRC+ in AA to never be a good hitter. It's amazing how much of a super-fan you are.

That really holds no interest for me. The fact that you believe I was right is plenty satisfying.

Does Grant really have a mental disorder? He seems to be at least somewhat high functioning if so.

Liriano is so much better than Hutchison, but the salary. This work great with Happ and Estrada. He traded for one more sleeper.

In Shatkins we trust!!!

Liriano salary = Dickey salary

It's a wash for next year's payroll

He is extremely high functioning. He has a science degree and he can play the tuba and everything.

Yeah Grant shouldn't be made fun of for having a mental disability. He should be applauded for having a mental disability and being able to go on baseball message boards and forming somewhat coherent arguments like he does. It's pretty impressive actually.

Dr. NJH diagnosed him with assburgers. Pretty sure he's a real doctor too.

That's great. I bet his parents are really proud of him.

One can only hazard a guess, but he certainly lacks an understanding of humour and struggles with social interactions. I probably have NPD, it is what it is. Asperger's by definition is a high-functioning form of autism, it's really not that bad as far as mental "disorders" go. Pretty much everybody has undesirable traits that fall under one or several plausible conditions, mental illness is not a black and white thing.

According to the board psychiatrists I have all of them, but I have my M.Sc. Entomology and healthy relationships so probably not. I can think of a couple OCD things I do, but Asperger's is a strange diagnosis if you knew me. I'm the polar opposite really.

I question whether most 'mental illnesses' even exist, considering few or none can even be diagnosed quantitatively. They may all me within the normal spectrum of human behaviour.

I actually agree with this. Except schizophrenia, that's legit.

Isn't that something that someone with a mental disorder would say though?

If you want to take it that way then sure. I like who I am. I'm smart, happy, healthy, and have a lot of good friends. I can easily accept whatever personality quirks or illnesses led to that combination.

Oh s***, I was right! This just proves how smart I am. Now everybody praise me.
