Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 That's a pretty useless comparison. Yes. McGuire could end up being nothing. I laugh at the posts saying Jays are set at the catching position after Martin.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 martin will help him...plus prospects... ps i like hutch and he might turn it around in Pitts They fixed Happ for us We could do the same with Hutch. JS....
Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Thole had a significant skill change / decline. When he came into the league he actually hit for AVG and had real OBP skills - he was basically a viable starting catcher and league average talent. Not sure what happened to him. Maybe once he started catching the knuckleball it f***ed him up completely. He's been bad since that concussion he had in 2011 I think it was.
vilifyingforce Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I was referring to his batting profile from when he was that age. Obviously I know he's garbage now.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I think he meant the only way Sanchez would pitch game 7 of the World Series is if he's in the pen because he wouldn't be able to throw the 240 IP necessary to be starting that game. Not that he would literally be saving him for game 7 as a starter. Oh... Yeah maybe I misunderstood.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Atkins is talking about moving Sanchez to the pen very soon, and then possibly having him start again when the playoffs roll around. No he's not. I don't know how you came up with that. Sid Seixero misunderstood him and was corrected immediately.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Atkins is talking about moving Sanchez to the pen very soon, and then possibly having him start again when the playoffs roll around. I'm not sure that will work out well. Pitchers need routine, especially SP.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Yes. McGuire could end up being nothing. I laugh at the posts saying Jays are set at the catching position after Martin. True. He could end up being nothing. But I'd rather have him than someone who's s***.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 IIRC you were the biggest Hutch fanboy. that would likely be me.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I really want to see Hutch succeed, so hopefully Searge can spin his magic on him. Even if he's successful, there is nothing but love coming from me about this deal. JJ Cooper said it best, dump Liriano tomorrow and I still like this deal.

I'm very confident that Hutch will find success in Pittsburgh. They were obviously extremely convinced of that as well.
admin Site Manager Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I really hope all the stupid bandwagon retards who hated Shapiro before ever giving him a chance actually realize how f***ing stupid they are. This was an amazing deadline. You guys were all over AA's balls when he made minor moves like this when he was first GM as well.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 You guys were all over AA's balls when he made minor moves like this when he was first GM as well. Some differences on where the team was at the time. One was rebuilding and grabbing all kinds of youth was a definite positive. This team is in the thick of contention, and still the GM manages to acquire prospects and arguably improve the current roster (not by alot mind you). It's a pretty ninja move that I would liken to when AA picked up Olivo and all those Type B pen arms, just to offer an arbitration deal and take extra picks. Simplistically, Atkins just bought two prospects for 17 million dollars less any actual value that Liriano provides between now and the end of next year.
sdyment Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 FWIW mlb.com has updated the Jays' top 30 and McGuire and Ramirez are #4 & #5.

I wouldn't be so quick to discount the chance that Hutch provides a lot of value to Pittsburgh. I like the gamble, but we we are a long way away from seeing who wins this.

I wasn't trying to suggest a winner of the trade, more so that the deal realy just amounts to a purchase of prospects for a bad contract and a depth SP. If Hutch works out for the Pirates, then its likely a win/win

We're in contention and all we've done all year is acquire guy on terrible years. No realy upgrade to this roster for the playoffs. This team, probably the best team we will have, assuming Jose and/or EE leave. And everyone says "Amazing". Morales luckily didn't stick around too long, but partially cost us a game in his one appearance. I'm a Liriano fan but he's been terrible. If we were a middle of the pack team, sure it would be nice to give him a chance. But we're a contending team, not a team looking for gems as we race for first place. How big of a leash do you give him? How big of a leash do you give Feldman? How many games do you let them blow before you say 'Okay, maybe our magic touch won't work on them?' $17M for two okay prospects. I'd rather put that towards international prospects who could be elite.

How little do you think Liriano would get if he was a free agent right now? The guy has like 9 WAR in the last three years and he's lost none of his stuff.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 "Blue Jay's need a run" Thanks for the insight Pat

If he's terrible how many bad starts do you give him before you go elsewhere?
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 We've struck out 18 times. Lmao

Benoit's ERA isn't pretty, but he's looked real good with us. I'd honestly prefer him to a smoke and mirrors guy with a good ERA like Fernando Abad. I'm not convinced that Liriano is the answer either, but the F.O. sure is. Let's give him a chance, he's probably better than the guys he is replacing (Tepera etc.).

How many games do they blow before you decide one didn't work out?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Ignoring the rest of what I said. I didn't ignore anything. It was simply vapid and boring, and warranted no response.
