Back before internet radio was a "thing", I'd have fun at night trying to tune in to as many sports games as I could on my little portable radio. Living here in the Midwest is actually a benefit for that since you can get a broader range of channels versus if you were living on one of the coasts. I used to faintly get the Leafs games on a Hamilton, Ontario radio affiliate CHML 900 AM. It's funny, I couldn't get the Jays on their flagship station FAN590 since there's a St Louis sports station called 590 The FAN on the same frequency! Listening to the Dallas Stars on WBAP 820 AM was the best especially when they played Edmonton in the playoffs.

When I had MLB.tv I always selected the 590 optional audio feed while watching the Sportsnet video. Such an improved experience imo

Just curious, is the timing accurate when doing this?

Mlb.tv overlay on my ps4 whenever I can retreat to the basement. At Bat audio over my phone when in my office at work. AM 1070 out of sarnia or whatever other AM station depending on where I am. If nothing's available ill stream At Bat over Bluetooth in my truck.

Anyways moral of the story is ....

Op has no life

Only the odd time it was out of sync. This was on my PS4 MLB app. Beware though, for some reason different MLB.tv apps on different devices don't give you this feature. Like Apple TV doesn't have, PS4 did. The app on my Samsung Blu-ray didn't have it, etc. You can email them to find out if it'll work for yours.

I remember in the early to mid 80's, there used to be a tiny ear clip on transistor radio called "the bug". It was preset to the Jay's game (AM 1430 in those days) and nothing else. Power on, set volume, clip it on your ear and Bob's your uncle. Exhibition Stadium was loaded with people wearing these things, especially the elderly. I tried it a few times, but as a teenager, it seemed odd wearing that thing. There was almost always someone with a traditional transistor radio listening to the game where you could hear if you were in the vicinity.

I thought he meant why would anyone listen to a game in AM over FM. There is no more AM radio where I live anymore, much poorer quality then FM... Not even sure why there is am anymore.

Anyways, baseball is the one sport where it's almost better on the radio.

Yeah, that's certainly part of the problem. Some stereos/boom-boxes that you buy don't even have AM radio anymore and when they do the quality's awful. I've had some MP3 players over the years with radio built in with great reception and even those only give you the FM option.

Is there some kind of fiscal reason why they can't move the station onto the FM dial?

I've seen a lot of Jerry Howarth worked into the promo material during commercials and commemorations and such lately. And sure, that's a nice nod to the people who listened to him 20-30 years ago when every game wasn't broadcast on TV or whatever but why would anyone in their right mind bother listening to AM radio in this day and age? The qualities absolutely terrible and if you have a TV or internet theres way better options.

I've heard some fans mention that they don't like the TV play-by-play guys so they mute the TV and listen to Jerry, but really, I've tried this and it syncs up bad and it really doesn't work out smoothly like you'd think it would.

It just seems like such an archaic and obsolete medium to follow a game by.

So I wonder, is there really a lot of fans who still enjoy games by this medium?

I love listening to the game while driving, working, or sitting out at the campfire. We have the best radio guy in the league and I don't take it for granted. It's often a more enjoyable to experience the game.

I will actually go for a drive to listen to baseball central. Get a break from work.

Either that or Rush Limbaugh

Quality trolling, keep up the good work.

overall the Fan 590 was up 31% last year. Got to figure the Jays were a huge factor in that.

They extended their range and it now reaches Sudbury and the Soo fairly well, along with communities to the East. Probably added half a million potential listeners at least.

This is just insulting. I have a lot of friends who listen to the Rush Limbaugh show. I listen to Rush Limbaugh.

I don't agree with everything he says, but lot of it is paraody. Rush does a great job at pointing out the hypocrisy of Clinton liberals.

He used to work for the Kansas City Royals... Did you know that??

You realize that the ordinary Joe fears guys like you?? "Grant knows best". While you may not be a dictator you have all the classic traits of a dictator. You have a false image of yourself as a "wise one" looking down at the ordinary people.

Ordinary people turn to Limbaugh because the Adrian Veindts, the Clintons, the Grants and the Justin Trudeau's of the world have failed them.

I live in the States. I have a satellite radio in the car which is basically only used to listen to Jays games, I also have mlb subscription and listen to Jays games on the iphone while running. I probably listen to at least a portion of half the games on the radio.

I also listen to Hannity and Michael Berry quite a bit... I don't catch Rush much, because I am not driving at that time. Almost never catch Glenn Beck.. I might this morning though because I have an errand.

My favourite all time (after Jerry Howarth) is Michael Savage. Absolute master of the format. Love the apolyctic edge ... ".. to the right of Limbaugh and the left of God..."

But even If I'm making a 20 minute commute home around game time I'd rather not even bother fussing around with the AM dial and listening to it while I drive.

That AM dial sure can be tricky.

So Olerud and RealAccountant are the same person, interesting. I would vote for Gary Johnson if I lived there, for the record.

I live in kitchener and the fan 590 barely comes in, 570 news in kitchener picks up most of the jays games, but it sure doesn't seem like the 590 range had been extended this year.
