Is Lawrie still without a team? With Donaldson injured, it would actually be a smart get... Travis looks hurt and in no way should Barney be getting regular at bats. If Lawrie came back it would interject some excitement in the beaten down fanbase

I never liked the deal much from the get go... Sure, it's okay if he's just gonna be a guy coming off of the bench, but it's stupid to plug in Pearce as an every day player for a team who's reached the last 2 ALCS'

Yeah, just a cheap stopgap to appease the base and fill a hole while the team inevitably reaches an impasse. It's f***ing weak. They could have at least did more in free agency to field a competitive product. I wish AA and Beeston were still running the show.

I think the truth is that everything went as right as it could last year and this team just barely sneaked into the playoffs. The offense was lacking spark last year and we lost arguably our best offensive player... Not to mention replacing Saunders with Pearce... That's a big downgrade right there alone.

I really thought these guys were gonna come out and mash against Miley, but I don't think this old roster can mash against anyone right now... Holy s*** do they look pathetic.

1-9 boys.... Shapiro didn't do nearly enough to improve the team. I think in some way he was hoping for a rebuild deep down.

Sanchez is a mental midget too... They add some insurance and he goes out there with no intensity and gets destroyed.

why was there so many contributors here that were so high on Pearce? I swear, some of you guys are more concerned about finding a "bargain" than fielding good talent.

I generally don't mind Gibby, but his delusion about Russel Martins offensive ability pisses me off. Having Martin batting 5th is inexcusable.

I tell ya, that home-run helps qualm a lot of the nerves I had about losing Eddy. I know it's irrational and only 1 at bat, but goddamn was it nice to see!

I sure hope so. I'm trying to be optimistic about him. It looks like he's put on a little weight from last year though and his bat speed looks a little slow. Hopefully it's just a little off-season rust that he's yet to shake off. -

I think this offense is too old. Aside from Travis there's really no young offensive spark on the roster. Sure, there's some big names, but they're all just another year older. It's hard to fathom why the offense should be any better than it was last year and they just barely sneaked into the playoffs. It's gonna be crucial for the team for Bautista to have a big year. -

This offense sure doesn't pack the same punch without Eddy:( I'm a little annoyed that Martins been batting 6th. He's a notorious slow starter and he's looked awful. Gibby should have him in the 8 hole, or 7th at the highest if he's afraid of bruising his ego. -
Ouch. Just saw the roster for team Canada... That's awfully disappointing. I enjoy the WBC and the concept, but it would be nice if the players were more serious about it or perhaps MLB could offer better incentives in order go get the players to participate. Even just watching the Israel/Korea game today: no Hyun Soo Kim or Ryan Braun? weak
