HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Took awhile to find it since all the official mlb videos are very short, but heres the entire hat trick ordeal https://streamable.com/nqx1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Seems like Blair to me, if it was coming from somebody else the bolded above would be inside the quotation marks. The bitching came from Zaun guys. Blair just tuned into the pregame (or post game - I forget) when Zaun went on his rant (I noted it on here because it sent the fans into a tither) and wrote and article about it because he's a tool.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 The only thing that is bothering me is Travis should be hitting behind Tulo not 8th or 9th.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Hendriks repeating what he did last year (or close to it) hurts, especially given how bad Chavez was.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 hm, I didn't check his numbers in awhile, I thought he was horseshit after his terrible start. That's what happens when you pitch well on a s***** team - no one realizes you have actually improved.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Good summary. Liriano just looks like he completely looses his release point on the FB. So many outside the zone up and away. Repeatedly. There was a lot of fapping about his new 4S FB after one good start, but not much after this last outing. He has the stuff to be a playoff starter, but it will be a nail biter. Id rather send him out than RA. I remember the Jays in 92 and 93 WS starting an aging Morris, Dave Stewart and Todd Stottlemyre giving me the same kind of feeling. That was exactly it. He wasn't following through on his pitches and he was missing his release point entirely. The frustrating part is he has the potential to be dominant like he was in Cleveland, when he locates the fastball it makes his slider devastating. So if that Liriano we're too show up more consistently he'd be a very solid postseason option. However, the Liriano we saw vs Minnesota on Friday has been far more prominent this season
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 That trade felt wrong from the moment it was announced, especially given that Hendriks had the same ability to act as a swingman. Bad move. Don't forget the context. The only starters on the team when they traded for Chavez were Stroman, Dickey & Hutch. They had Sanchez - but nobody knew what he'd be able to give the team as a starter (and most expected him to struggle mightily). Estrada and Happ had not been signed yet (nor had Floyd). This team needed starting pitching depth BADLY. Could they have waited and seen whether they were going to get Happ/Estrada/Floyd? Maybe. Maybe not. Hard to know, but it's not hard to see a scenario where this team needed Chavez in the rotation a lot this year (injuries, Sanchez struggles, Happ signs elsewhere, etc.). It never materialized, but that doesn't mean they were wrong for adding the SPing depth. In all likelihood, we probably would have been a better team this year with Chavez in the rotation and Dickey/Thole sitting in Margaritaville.

If the trade happened before Happ and Estrada than it was probably a LaCava trade. Not that it really matters though. No one's going to complain about the Lacava portion of the offseason even if that particular deal turned out poorly.

I don't know about that. Chavez hasn't even been good as a reliever. There's no guarantee that he could be a starter and make it through 5+ innings with any kind of consistency.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I wonder how Sanchez is going to get handled for the rest of September... if he comes back lights out he's going to get preserved as a starter right? Well how's that going to work? Another go at the 6 man? Go with the current 5 man and spot start Sanchez against division rivals? Go with a 5 man including Sanchez and put Liriano in the pen? I'd think that's where he'd be in the post-season anyways... If Sanchez has 2 bad starts then you bet your ass he's going to the pen and Liriano's getting the 4th man in the rotation come the post season, but if he continues his pace it's going to get interesting. I'm still in favour if piggybacking him with Dickey, I think having the fireballer pitch 3 innings and have the lineup go through once of 93+ fastballs with late movement then moving on to a mid 70s dancing knucleball is a deadly combination. Plus Dickey can give you 5 strong and if it gets dicey by the 7th or 8th you can use Grilli or Benoit or Biagini to bridge to Osuna in the 9th. Imagine having 3 innings of Sanchez, 5 innings of Dickey and an inning of Osuna... literally a rollercoaster of pitchers

Or would the Dickey effect call for Dickey to go first and then Sanchez? Either way it could be an effective tandem start.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I'm a little bit nervous for this O's series with it being on the road but holy s*** do we have the advantage with the pitching matchups: Estrada vs. Miley Happ vs. Ubaldo Sanchez vs. Gallardo I like our chances to take 2 of 3.

That basically describes what Dickey is man...Chavez has been a 3.85-3.90 FIP + xFIP starter the past 2 years.

When Liriano can get strikes with the FB, they know the slider may be coming, but no way to lay off.

Big time We avoid Tillman and Bundy and they don't get to face Dickey or Liriano. We couldn't ask for a better set of pitching matchups against a team we could bury 4-6 games back with a good series

Yeah he was a 3.9 xFIP starter but I'm not sure he can do that anymore. He's had trouble as a reliever, it's no guarantee that as a starter he could get a 3.90 xFIP.

Liriano's only problem is his walks, not getting hit hard. Estrada is getting hit hard, and vs the Os, if he's not on that's trouble.

Fingers crossed it's tonight.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I don't get why they wore blue under the red jersey's. Brutal look.
flafson Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 What were they doing? JD was touching Gibby and twisting his arm.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I don't get why they wore blue under the red jersey's. Brutal look. Because they didn't make a new underjersey just for the occasion.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Because they didn't make a new underjersey just for the occasion. You mean the Jays can't afford 25 red undershirts to match the red jerseys they wear a couple times a year? I find that difficult to believe sir.

I find that difficult to believe sir. They should have done white undershirts. Melvin had the right idea with the white sleeves.

wamco Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 It's 88 degrees, who needs an undershirt?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I guess then they would all need red helmets too then That's a good point. Then you auction them off afterwards (would work after the Canada day game probably...no idea why they even had the reds on the other day). They seem to go out an buy a lot of pink stuff for breast cancer month.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 It's 88 degrees, who needs an undershirt? The undershirts they wear don't factor in temperature. Climate control gear. They are designed to be worn when its hot. They also make them for when its cold.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Why are we even talking about their undershirts?
