Governator Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 What's funny is people thinking Hale has free reign on the club, everything still goes through Gibbons. He can't be in the dugout, that's it. Hey... we can pretend
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Hey... we can pretend No, it's embarrassing.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I'm wanting but not expecting things to drastically improve overnight but thank f***ing god we are getting what most of us wanted before the 2016 stink ass shitshow thus far started = Jose leadoff. Props to the team leaders for pushing this. It cant get worse. Lets go Jays!! 2016 starts tonight. I too am wanting but not expecting things to dramatically improve. If their plate approach does not change then juggling around the lineup will not help much. In the past they were more successful when they went with the pitch and got on base then passing it on to the next hitter. The coaches, manager, and fans have all mentioned this approach yet the hitters seem to dismiss this when they get to the plate. This ripping the ball as hard as you can while hoping it gets through the IF or trying to be the hero with HR swings at every at-bat will not cut it. Their approach to shifts are also cringe-worthy.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Getting excited! All of these hits are line-drives, no dribbler BABIP hits.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Why are people saying this if it clearly said the top 4 hitters came to management and requested this? It's not like Hale woke up and said lets shake s*** around I never said it had anything to do with the lineup change. Gibbons is ass as a manager. Hale can't be any worse.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 lol who's pitching against the Bisons.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 One streak ends (losing streak at 5) and another continues (Jimmy Paredes hit streak at 3).
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Hey you guys MLB finally released the official Jimmy Paredes Blue Jays profile pic as you'll see to the left. If you want to use it you can find it here: http://m.mlb.com/player/517370/jimmy-paredes
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Toronto Star: Blue Jays to give Jimmy Paredes every chance to succeed: https://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2016/05/19/blue-jays-to-give-jimmy-paredes-every-chance-to-succeed.html "Paredes, the middle infielder the Jays picked up off waivers from Baltimore, is expected to see most of the playing time at second base if he continues to hit." Looks like Gibbons will have a tough decision to make once Travis is back on who to start at 2B.

Paredes isn't even a good hitter and he's a statue at 2nd.

In all seriousness you're probably right. I think he's got a slim chance to be a good hitter as he might have had a true talent change in his swing/approach. But even so his problem is more than just that as he cannot field whatsoever. So not only does he need to prove that he can hit, he's going to have to mash to stick.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 He's an upgrade to the jays dismal bench with some sub par positional versatility.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I'll gladly have Peredes as this year's Colabello. At least he will only get 3 more starts and then won't be in the starting lineup.
puphood Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Peredes is here for his bat. The only place to put Peredes's is in a pinch hitting or DH slot if last nights game is any indication of his defensive skill set. I don't see much else there when you consider that the Jays will have 3 other's fighting for the 2nd base slot and all are better defensively.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Paredes can hit, but he can't catch the ball. We don't need another DH on the 25-man roster.

It's one thing if we have a defensive 2b in the lineup who is decent bat. Even wrc 80. It's another when you have a Ryan Goins who kills just about any rallies etc.

You have to think a team that is 20-23 and needed to pull out all the stops to beat the Twins in extras would have an incentive to start making smart decisions.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I really don't think I can handle this team pretending that Jimmy Paredes is a legitimate talent. He shouldn't even be on the team past the weekend when Travis returns.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Paredes is bad. No discipline, no defense. Mediocre power.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I like Parades versatility. I think he should stick as a bench bat when Travis returns. Parades Barney Thole Zeke

Parades Barney Thole Zeke Why does versatility matter when you're bad at all the things you can (notionally) do? - 80 wRC+ hitter (why is the media acting like he can hit?) - disastrous 2B defender - disastrous 3B defender - disastrous OF defender - has never played any other position The best you can say is that he's probably an average baserunner, but there's a reason why he's at -1.2 fWAR in his career: he doesn't have any useful MLB skills.

I get all that and I think I was the first to question why Tabby and the Terminator kept calling him a good hitter...Perhaps I just like having someone who can play all over (even if it's poorly)...but really - who's a better option? Andy Burns?

There was nothing to suggest prior that JB and EE were ever going to be this good. So really he could be the third coming for all we know.

It's ridiculous to couch every statement about a bad player because a fraction of a single percentage of them will figure things out and become stars. Paredes is awful.

I'm not defending having Paredes. All I was saying was that stats aren't going to tell you who the next JB and EE are. He made it sound like there is data to show us that.
