Thats why I said if they were still sucking at the deadline. I want this team to win as badly as anyone.

Right, sorry. Read that incorrectly. If he was to tear it down then, and that's a big if, then I think JD would be part of the movement.

2 more years of control (albeit 2018 could be expensive through arb). I can't see him extending JD when he could bring us back some valuable assets. He will be 33 as a FA. Shapiro is a guy who traded Bartolo at 29 when he was still considered one of the best arms in the league.

Nobody thought the bullpen would be problem. In fact everyone thought it would be a strength with Storen, Cecil, and Osuna.

You must not read all the posts. Experts here have said the bullpen is fine despite it being 15th in the majors

That's what we were going for

I actually thought they would be quite good, and certainly good enough. Would have loved to have seen another arm added but understood the rationale for not doing it with the price of relievers in the FA market last off season. I never thought they would ever have this much trouble. Cecil not being Cecil 2nd half 2015 has been more of an issue that Storen imo.

With the second wild card jays can be an awful team and still have false hope at the deadline

Shouldn't you wait to see where the team is at after Travis and loup return. Martin is a big key too. He obviously was battling some nagging health things early....shouldn't we give him a bit more time to see if his offensive game returns to a bit closer to what he's done in his career?

Revenue opportunities are also at an all time high. Hockey wasn't just down in Toronto, it was down across the country. Zero Canadian playoff teams is a huge thing and if the Jays could turn things around, there's a lot of casuals to be had.

How? Storen was losing wheels in WA. Chavez a castaway, Floyd coming off surgery, Loup was never really great, Osuna has been good but unproven, Cecil was the only anchor. I was never confident in the bullpen or the staff. The starters have over achieved, other than Dickey.

Floyd has been exactly what we thought Storen would provide so not really a big loss there. Cecil has been a big downgrade though. The offence is the biggest reason why the team has been bad and shows no signs of snapping out of it really.

85-87 wins probably gets WC2. Accurate? I believe it was about that for the last two years. Probably the only team you can count out is Minnesota.

Houston last year with 86, Oakland the year before with 88. It could take 90+ but with the parity around the AL it'll probably be more like the 86-89 range.

I thought Storen would find it again. He has (or had) good stuff.

I watched the way Floyd threw the ball in the Spring and felt confident with him at a SP or pen arm

I liked the arm of Chavez for 2 IP in to get us through the 7 and/or 8th. He wasn't a castaway. OAK wanted a more controllable cheaper asset with possible upside.

I thought Loup threw the ball ok last year and was cursed for luck.

Was confident in Osuna development and thought if anything his secondary pitches would improve.

Thought Cecil was a lockdown 3 to 5 out go to guy against either LHH or RHH to get us to the 9th.

Yeah, the starting rotation was what had people spooked. BP looked deep.

The bullpen ranks 10th for both

Bullpen had been s*** in high leverage situations though. Seems like they'll always give up a 2-3 run homer in the 7th/8th/9th inning

That's actually surprising to me, given the lacklustre K totals of some of our starters.

Yeah. I think HR and BB are weighted more heavily than K though, in FIP

Wow, Jays starters are 13th for K rate

But all our starters are 3.3 BB/9 or less, and Stroman, Happ and Dickey are all well under 3.0

That probably is true but it's also compounded by how s*** our offense has been in the late innings.

Seems like there have been games where it's tied heading in to the 7th and the bullpen gives up a run over 3 innings and "blows the game."

Even today. 3 runs in the first, and nothing else

Oh if we had a bullpen likes the Yankees...

All those games we blew...

To be fair, the offense is almost as much to blame for losing close games late as the bullpen has

But yeah... we wish :(

Who could have guessed this bandaid bullpen would have been a problem? Oh wait, we all did.

there were a lot of people loving this bullpen before the season started. i read many phrases like "this is the best jays bullpen in years" and "we can compete with the other AL East pen's no problem" on this board. a lot of it had to do with the Hendriks trade and he's s*** the bed himself in oakland.

The Yankees have won 5 straight and have moved ahead of the Blue Jays in the standings. The Blue Jays will need to get good offense and good pitching in the series that starts tomorrow in New York, otherwise we will be watching the Yankees moving back into contention and the Blue Jays solidifying their current spot in the AL East basement. (luckily the Blue Jays are also only 1 game out of 3rd place in the division)

Do or die time

Absolutely. This is where the season starts to get interesting.

And the offsense had better f'n show up

We SHOULD be able to score off most of both of those teams' starters. The bullpens are so good we have to get on them early and often though.

Bring it!

If the offense doesn't show up for these series, it better be the end of the "it's still early" excuses. By the end of this stretch it will be June 5th, two months in.
