Jose Bautista the accountant pulls Rogers' pants down so everyone can see the sneaky hidden money in their tightey whiteys.

Toronto Blue Jays Jose Bautista's days are numbered

Whoa. Shots fired.

Not gonna end well and Jose can say whatever he wants with no fear of being traded because he has 10/5 rights. This can go one of two ways. They can cave and sign him and give in to the cries of the fans, or they can listen to his big mouth all season long and go "f*** this, we can't have this guy taking a figurative s*** all over us in public any time something is on his mind, let him walk."

I wonder if he's had any particular conversations that may have set him off a bit -- hints but not yet confirmation that they can't meet his price. He's probably been stewing for years over this too. Not to mention his demonstrable frustration with not putting a competitive team together in years past (2014 deadline when he and Janssen both had words to the media).

My guess is Shapiro countered Bautista's asking price by saying "this won't fit into the budget, but this is what we can offer you". That's probably what set Bautista off.

There is honestly nothing wrong with employing Jose and EE for 2016, taking another run at the ship, and then qualifying them and watching them become Red Sox. It would be fine. Most of us would survive.

Best of all for Jose is that if he does indeed walk, fans will turn on Rogers. He'll get to leave for greener pastures, 20M per year, and a PR shitpile for his former employer while remaining a hero for the city.

Every employee's dream.

Jose is such an unlikeable guy when he isn't producing

I really don't care about an aging defensive liability.

He is a good bat but he is always having back problems

I'd go 3/65 with a fourth year team option or 4/80 and akin to jose "wouldn't budge"

he defintely thinks he is worth a 5/110 or 4/95, maybe even more

also there never was a discount he gave us, dude came the f*** out of nowhere and hit 52. i didn't want the deal at the time but he shut me up. I sincerely believe he is on something (not roids) but some drug gave him more quickness or something. I still can't believe that until age 30 he was a joke s*** player.

Give the saved money to donaldson for like an 8/200 or something

I'm not sure I really understand what Jose is getting at. Rogers' stock is just under $50 right now....about the same value it was at this time back in 2013 when the Jays were fresh off another disappointing season....yet Jose is suggesting their stock price shot up in October 2015 (by 12%) because the Blue Jays were in the playoffs (dropping 8.5% in Nov/Dec)???? Is that what he's getting at?

Seriously?

Has this guy ever been a free agent? I don't think so. I love him, but he'll test free agency and walk. Good for him. I'd rather sign a younger EE long term, at least he would be okay and suited to play DH for 3-4 (maybe 5) years.

Jose has talked to other teams, they know what they'll offer him so that's where he's setting his number.

I'm not naive enough to think it doesn't happen, but if that's the case then it's collusion and Bautista would be wise to shut his mouth. This is going to be a major distraction all year.

Not sure why people are saying "good for Jose". He's overstepping his boundaries a bit too much here. He's gotta learn when to stop talking. You don't just go and badmouth the company you work for WHILE you are working for them. Not when the whole world can see.

Plus Shapiro is smarter than Bautista. I would trust Shap's valuation over Jose's. Sure he might think he's worth 100 million, and that definitely IS market-value these days, but he will not be worth that much. He's one back injury away from being Arod.

Nah, i'd rather let them both walk

I'm not sure I can picture a guy coming off as more of a douche as he did in that interview. I have no issue with his stance or his overall points, because as far as that goes he's 100% right. But the way he stated his point is douchebag 101.

So the focus should not be on how we are going to resign Edwin and Jose but how to replace them. I love Bautista but if hes looking at 5-years 100+ million you trade him if were not a playoff contender or take your compensation pick. Edited by Jonn

Both would glady accept a trade in season to a contender to whipe draft pick compensation away.

Would they really? This is 100% true (and something I hadn't previously considered) for the fringe QO guys like Ian Kennedy, Gallardo, Howie Kendrick, D.Fowler, etc.....but are EE and Jose going to get less cash on the open market if they have draft pick compensation attached? I'm assuming only teams ready to win now would go after them (although we always have the Arizona's and the Baltimore's of the league...).

If we're below .500 at the trade deadline I could see them accepting a trade to a team in contention.

If the team is below .500 at the deadline there is a good chance Jose and Edwin have gotten hurt/ aren't productive. A team this talented isn't just going to be terrible.

I can think of many scenarios that would see the Jays below .500 with EE and Jose still healthy putting up their "normal" numbers....

I get it...Rogers is rich. But unless Jose's bat flip caused Rogers to sell $90M more cell phones last fall, his statement isn't remotely accurate. Also, Rogers operating profit was flat last year. $5 billion...so not a poor company...but still flat. The stock market is all about growth, not necessarily your base numbers.

Rogers' stock price probably has more to do with the Canadian dollar tanking than anything. Americans selling out of crappy oil sands companies but like the exchange rate so they figure they'll put it into some other Canadian company by default.

Why are people getting upset? Why are people are sensitive? We already knew it'd take $22M-$25M to keep him here.

Who's getting upset?

The only surprise might be that he showed up on Day 1 and took his dick out on Rogers. I think it's awesome cause as fans, a lot of us have hated the way Rogers have handled this organization for years...but we have no voice. But Bautista has a voice...and to have him lay it out was sweet music.

I think everyone here would sign that Martin contract over and over again.

Anyone that argues against this really has no clue how good Martin is. ffs he is already 33rd on career WAR list for catchers all-time, and by the end of this deal he should crack the top 20!
