Saw estrada, chavez and hutch yesterday on the golf course (watching, not playing). Saw Donaldson tee off on the 1st tee and after he drove it about 375 yards he flipped his golf club in the air while bumping his chest yelling "gimme some of that". Probably one of the funniest/coolest things I saw in Spring training. He's about as cocky/confident as you can be but he backs it up for sure and has a ton of fun while doing it.

If Floydd is healthy he should be starting. this is not even a question.

Sanchez should be left a reliever. He won't develop the secondary stuff necessary his minor records is horrible. If he goes back to AAA to start then we could see a huge loss of confidence one where he may not be able to become a good reliever from.

If Sanchez goes to AAA we may never see him in an MLB game again

I know it's Barry Davis quoting Osuna, but he says at the end of the video that "long-term, Osuna does want to be a starter". So, if this is to be believed, there we have it. Hopefully this means he'll be a multi-inning reliever this season to try stretch him out for 2017.

It's unconventional but so was having him make the jump from A ball to the Majors to be a reliever. Makes sense to give Storen the 9th and let Osuna go for 2 innings more often than last year. Have him prepare to start. Than the question is who the f*** closes in 2017. Both Storen and Cecil are free agents. I fear they may never make him a starter.

I think Osuna's pitchability and pitch selection profiles very well as a starter, and I hope Shatkins looks at it the same way as us.

If they wanted him to start, this was probably the year. This is a kid with 29 pro starts entering his 5th season with the org. It's almost unheard of for a pitcher to spend multiple seasons in a bullpen and then transition into the rotation. I don't think they're particularly interested in him starting.

It's kinda hard to pigeonhole a 21 year old kid who barely has any experience anywhere. I don't think they're as shortsighted as you

Why does preferring Osuna as a reliever have to e shortsighted? There are perfectly valid reasons to leave him where he is. All I'm saying is that it's almost unprecedented for a team to leave a young arm in the pen for two years and then transition him successfully to the rotation. And you run in to diminishing returns. The more time and bullets he spends relieving now, the less/fewer he has to give you later.

One example I can think of is Chris Sale spent part of 2010 and 2011 in the bullpen.

Waino too. Osuna will get a chance to start next year, I'd imagine. Whether it works out remains to be seen. The brass have even acknowledged this.

Waino was just one year in the pen. Sale was his draft year and then a full season.

Yeah, of course.

He can make the change, they're ramping up his innings. He could even go stretchout a bit more in the winter leagues.

Osuna was/is a few years younger, no?

Yes and No.

This kid is pitching in tough competition league since 13 years old. He has more miles in his meter than RA Dickey

I know he can still stretch out if they want him too. I'm just pretty skeptical about that being the plan. It would be very unusual for a team to leave an arm in the pen for two years (after making just 29 MiLB starts) if they saw him eventually moving to the rotation. If I'm putting money down, it's on him spending his last four years of team control after 2016 as a reliever.

I see, they said(Gibby) different as early as last week. Who knows.

Actions speak louder than words though. I think the probability of him ever starting took a sizable hit when it didn't happen in ST this year.

I'll reiterate that I think letting him provide 1-2 wins as a reliever is a perfectly valid plan.

I see it the same way BTS does. Two straight years in the pen, after a career high 45-ish innings in the minors? He'll need at least a year just to stretch out, never mind actually contribute in any meaningful way as a starter. I guess it's possible he can go from 80 innings to 160, or until his arm explodes, but that type of transition is not easy, and it becomes more difficult the longer he's a reliever.

Wouldn't shock me at all if he never starts a game for the Jays. Only way I see it working is if he struggles as a reliever this season and is sent down to stretch out.

Like I said, who knows brosoff. I'm fine either way, just would like to see the former at the very least attempted.

Osuna himself said he wants to be a reliever this year as he feels (I'm paraphrasing) that adding too many innings this year might be risky to his arm as he's still not very far removed from TJS. He didn't say he wants to be a reliever forever though. I think the idea was to use him for some multiple inning outings this year and increase his workload gradually that way, then consider trying him as a starter next year. That said, there are a lot of factors in the bullpen and rotation this year that I could see conspiring to keep him as a reliver permanently.
