Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Seems like holding back Girodo as depth would be a smart play. He only has 4 innings in AAA so an assignment to Buffalo seems to make sense. Venditte and Choate can battle it out. I'm in this camp.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Shapiro is on fan590 for the full hour. Been a great half hour so far.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Ben Nicholson-Smith Mark Shapiro calls player options on contracts 'ridiculous.' "You'll never see us do a player option" #BlueJays

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 BVH Shapiro on Edwin/Jose: "Let's try to extend them now. If we don't, let's try to extend them at the end of the season. If we can't, we get picks and a boatload of money to spend on other players. It's not complicated."
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Has it? He's really said nothing except the usual. I think anytime you can get a person of his magnitude on for that much time its a win. He said he'd never do player option contracts (opt outs) so that was pretty interesting. I'd also say judging b his comments it sounds like Floyd will be the 5th starter and Biagini will make the bullpen.

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Do you ever remember a time where Beest talked baseball like this???? Nope. I'm actually pretty excited about a 'no player option' policy. Those contracts are terrible for the team.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 BVH Shapiro sees the core of this team as Donaldson/Tulo/Martin going forward. Wants to keep Jose & EE, but believes they can contend w/o. Just to keep the fans happy. He doesn't want these two dinosaurs earning big money here.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Maybe Shapiro is in this forum. Maybe he's NJH I actually was on hold on the line, didn't get on. Wanted to ask more in detail about the high performance hires and the plan going forward. Instead we got some Joe from Missisauga ask the 500th question Shapiro has faced about EE and JB Free Agency.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 For those interested Shapiro will be at a Pitch Talks event in Toronto on April 7 as well.

Maybe BC beest was the president and not the GM The president need not be concerned with personell moves. Clearly in this case Shapiro is also the GM. You should compare him to AA

He even said on the radio he was impressed with the moves Atkins made shoring up depth implying he didn't really have any part in those deals.

If you look carefully, when Atkins is in front of the camera, you can see Shapiro behind him pulling his strings.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Who's 4th OF? I'm sure Pompey is thrilled Lake or Cecilliani. Pompey wasn't going to make the team as a 4th OF anyway.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Called it yesterday: Just listening on the audio feed but it's very possible that this is one of the last times Brad Penny stands on a mound.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Who's 4th OF? I'm sure Pompey is thrilled Gibby's talked up Darrell Ceciliani a few times - suggesting he can handle CF defensively. Sounds like he has a legit shot - trying to beat out Lake and Carrera.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Ben Nicholson-Smith Mark Shapiro calls player options on contracts 'ridiculous.' "You'll never see us do a player option" #BlueJays To clarify....is he saying he won't tact on a 4th year "player option" to a contract. Or is he saying he won't allow an "opt-out" clause in a contract.....errr both.
