Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I'm sorry this isn't the season of "protect Gavin Floyd's arm". This is the season of "Let's win it all" Burn the "veteran one year sign" arm
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 floyd is a reliever. He's been one for 3 years. Might be fun if he starts, we can start a pool for when his arm will fall off. Put me down for May 10th He also said he was hurt the last few years and is feeling much better this year and wants to start. Just because a guy throws few innings the year before doesn't mean he is going to get hurt if his workload increases. The guy you are talking about in Hutch threw 180 innings a year after barely throwing any and did just fine.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 The best example is always CJ Wilson. He was a reliever for 4 years and threw 73.2 IP the last year, then he went straight to 4 200+ IP seasons.
Nafro Verified Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Burn the "veteran one year sign" arm Pretty much . I mean I'm not saying purposely jeorpadize careers. Floyd is on borrowed time, my guess is he wants to win. If he wanted to "build up his value" he signs with a s*** team, looking for SP, in a pitcher friendly park in the national league.

Shapiro to Floyd 2015 "I'll sign you next year"

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 So if Straily for Jimenez happens, we're looking at... Stroman Dickey Estrada Happ Floyd Storen Osuna Cecil Chavez Straily Choate/Venditte/Girodo Delabar/Biagini With Chavez, Danks and Straily all out of options, you pretty much have to give one of them the 5th spot and put the other two in the pen. This would pretty much guarantee Sanchez starts the season in the minors and losing at least one of Biagini or Delabar unless a trade can be swung for Biagini. Rotation: Stroman, Dickey, Happ, Estrada, Floyd Pen: Storen, Cecil, Osuna, Chavez, Straily, Biagini, Loup (or whichever lefty takes his spot) Expose to waivers: Delabar, Leon Keep in AAA or lose: Choate It's doable. BUt yeah, in that case, you have to either put Sanchez in the pen as a full-time reliever (while losing Biagini) or in AAA as a starter.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Has there been a report of the Jays even being interested in Straily or is it just speculation? I think we are jumping the gun by penciling him into the roster right now.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Is anyone else surprised that Osuna was not given a chance to compete for the 5th spot this Spring? I know he's been nails and still young but we blew a year of service time for him to be a reliever last year, I figured they'd start the transition this year.

A lot of people in the organization believe he will be a reliever long term. They think setup or closer will be his best position for us. I don't aggree, but if true that might explain why.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Gibbons confirmed Pillar will be the Jays leadoff hitter to start the season Meh, it's not like it will last long after the OBP doesn't "magically" shoot up like some expect lol. Let's just hope DT comes back soon.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 i thought shapiro was into maths and stuff?????

There could be something huge there in the making.

admin Site Manager Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Shapiro doesn't make the batting order. In the near future he just may.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Shapiro doesn't make the batting order. so it's just a matter of time before the puppet manager comes in I assume
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Hmm what do they base that opinion on without seeing him starting? There could be something huge there in the making. Inverted W....
Slot Machine Verified Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 If i remember correctly the fat kid was super meek and the little guy had been bullying him for months until he finally snapped and this happened. The kid who got slammed broke his leg. Yeah, the kid couldn't even walk.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Osuna doesn't want to start this season and doesn't have enough innings to do it anyway. My guess is when Storen and Cecil leave next season that Osuna will just be kept as closer.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Gibbons confirmed Pillar will be the Jays leadoff hitter to start the season Perfect Gibby logic. We want a guy with a 93 wRC+ and the worst pitch selection in our line up starting off the order. It will take the pressure off the big 4 bats who follow him not to have to drive him in. And of course if he does get on, as a semi fast runner it doesn't make sense to run in front of the 4 elite bats that follow him, so we don't have to worry about him getting thrown out.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Inverted W.... Chris Sale. Also, who's dumb idea was it to call that arm motion the "inverted W", why not the "M" lol?
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Inverted W.... Fair point, with his tommy jonn surgery another injury might be career ending. So much potential tho
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Gibbons confirmed Pillar will be the Jays leadoff hitter to start the season *facepalm*
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Hmm what do they base that opinion on without seeing him starting? There could be something huge there in the making. He's already had TJS. It might be as simple as them not trusting his mechanics to let him hold up over 180 innings. 1-3 wins in relief isn't really a bad outcome for him at all if they don't trust him to hold up for 32 starts.

No sentence should start with said 21 year old player doesn't want to..... That being said does he have 32 starts in his professional career? Just looked it up 29 professional starts, since being signed as a 16 year old.
