Adam Warren was pretty decent as a starter this season. Yankees though probably keep him in the pen. Other guys are Alex Colome, Carlos Frias, Chris Bassitt.

 

Charlie Morton could be an interesting target. Still under control for 2016 + an option and could likely be dangled by the Pirates for a particular need. He's more of a groundball pitcher obviously so not the same arsenal as Estrada.

 

I think the Jays are looking for guys with plus changes these days. They tend to outperform there fip's. They had interest in Fiers at the deadline, acquired Price. Both have plus change/fastball combos. So if your looking for guys they'll have a lot of interest in first, look for plus changeup guys.

I am honing in on the idea of trading for Matt Garza. He didn't lose any velocity this year - he just had a weirdly terrible season. Owed 2/$25 with a cheap $5M team option for 2018. The option vests at $13M if he makes 58 starts in the next two years, which could easily be avoided. Milwaukee could probably be compelled to eat some of his contract and he should cost essentially nothing.

 

Vance Worley, maybe?

 

CJ Wilson rubbed some people the wrong way in LA this year. I wonder if the irresponsible Angels would eat 1/2 of his remaining salary to get Revere

 

I like Josh Tomlin a lot. Same with Jesse Chavez. Worley is an interesting guy as well. I'd have no problem with the Jays targeting one of those guys as the No. 5 starter. They could provide some great value.

I think the Jays are looking for guys with plus changes these days. They tend to outperform there fip's. They had interest in Fiers at the deadline, acquired Price. Both have plus change/fastball combos. So if your looking for guys they'll have a lot of interest in first, look for plus changeup guys.

 

Two controllable guys that might fit that archetype are Roenis Elias and Chase Anderson. Particularly Anderson (Elias' CH rates well but he's more known for his CU).

 

But, neither would be cheap.

I think Worley makes a lot of sense. Probably dirt cheap, and he would love a chance to work with Martin again, as those two were very succesful in 2014.

His defense is getting shitter, more hard contact, less infield fly balls, less groundballs but his line drive rates is dropping. This guy looks like a ticking time bomb actually

Having just seen Buehrle, Dickey, and Estrada roll through Toronto, I'm more sympathetic these days to the notion that someone might have skills that FIP theory ignores.

 

Santiago is caught as a sinkerball pitcher but he doesn't get groundballs. Kind of weird. Probably a misclassification.

 

I know he used to have some notoriety as a screwball pitcher...

Totally agree on de la Rosa. He seemed to have some upside when he was in Boston and is still young.

Pretty sure this translates more towards finding a balance between talent and attitude. My guess is that it means no more Colby Rasmsus type guys, but also no more DeRosas as well.

 

He's said on record that you still can't win without talent so I doubt hes going to bring in good clubhouse guys that suck talent wise. I know the Derosa and Visquez signings were suppose to help all the terrible character but talented players mesh.

Absolutely, the haters love to overlook these deals. All we hear about is the Dickey trade, which to be objective is the only terrible trade AA has ever made. The Marlins trade wasn't a win, but it wasn't a disaster either.

 

haven't the guys shipped out-WAR'd the guys coming in by a solid amount now at a much cheaper cost...and several more years of control I think it ends up as a $120M value lost deal by the end. That's pretty bad.
