Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I think I'm not going to bet you on the metric which is most favourable to Dickey and which I care the least about.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 AAV is about right, although Estrada probably has the leverage to get a 3rd year at this point. Maybe a mutual option with a buyout would work. That's what I was thinking. I was hoping the Jays could get him for 2 years with a slightly higher AAV - as a 3 year commitment makes me very nervous giving the track record.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I think I'm not going to bet you on the metric which is most favourable to Dickey and which I care the least about. What better way would there be to evaluate Estrada and Dickey? Both are FIP beaters, and a legit part of the argument for Dickey over Estrada is that Dickey is a good bet for 220 innings and Estrada topped out at 180 this year.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 So you think Estrada is the better investment but won't bet on him being more valuable. Your dumn. Boxy? You know me. I'm a sucker for losing bets.

Estrada topped at 180 because he was in the BP for the first month. I think hes a good bet for 200 innings baring injury

It was your initial suggestion anyway.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 I think I'm not going to bet you on the metric which is most favourable to Dickey and which I care the least about. If the X metric is more favourable to Y than Z, then, the X metric suxx, AMIRITE?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 So what's the problem with ERA? It was your initial suggestion anyway. Dickey's IP are part of the value he provides. RA-9 gives both credit for their actual run prevention while also crediting them for IP. I thought it was fair if we're discussing who would be the better value this year.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Classic bait and switch attempt. Pass.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Imo Dinger's terrified of making bets after Rick Porcello emotionally and anally scarred him.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Imo Dinger's terrified of making bets after Rick Porcello emotionally and anally scarred him. Probably also still reeling from losing his "CCC will cruise past 30 hometowns" bet to me.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 You all know I should have won both those bets. Epic f***jobs, both.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Yeah, this is a good post. AA has seemingly improved a lot from the days of ignoring defense, buying pitchers based on ERA, investing heavily in relievers, and rostering awful players because of character. He's not a below-average GM. But I don't think he's bright enough that people should worry if he leaves. There are others who can do as good a job, or better, and with Shapiro at the helm the team has one of the Presidents most likely to fill the GM chair with a quality guy. BallHer @BaseballHer 6h6 hours ago AA said he's going to put "good teammate" ahead of other qualifications because of how well the clubhouse chemistry worked this year.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I believe the correct quote is, from page 1 of the "OMG JAYS ACQUIRING DONALDSON" thread; "We got raped." Post was deleted when o2 banned Jonns account by accident. No, he actually deleted the post out of shame when everyone called him out on it. His account was deleted way after he deleted the post.

Winning breeds good clubhouse chemistry (or at least it should). Winning is bred by talent. C'mon AA, don't take a step back.

My guess is that it means no more Colby Rasmsus type guys, but also no more DeRosas as well.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Who could be the next Estrada next year?

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Who could be the next Estrada next year? Fister imo, assuming he was hurt last year which was a cause in his velo dip. The front office will have that information.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Adam Warren was pretty decent as a starter this season. Yankees though probably keep him in the pen. Other guys are Alex Colome, Carlos Frias, Chris Bassitt. Charlie Morton could be an interesting target. Still under control for 2016 + an option and could likely be dangled by the Pirates for a particular need. He's more of a groundball pitcher obviously so not the same arsenal as Estrada.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Nate Karns Nate Karns had a solid year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Who could be the next Estrada next year? Josh Tomlin Jesse Chavez Jorge De La Rosa Our own Drew Hutchison I am honing in on the idea of trading for Matt Garza. He didn't lose any velocity this year - he just had a weirdly terrible season. Owed 2/$25 with a cheap $5M team option for 2018. The option vests at $13M if he makes 58 starts in the next two years, which could easily be avoided. Milwaukee could probably be compelled to eat some of his contract and he should cost essentially nothing. Vance Worley, maybe? CJ Wilson rubbed some people the wrong way in LA this year. I wonder if the irresponsible Angels would eat 1/2 of his remaining salary to get Revere
