Laika Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 Jean Joseph in Dunedin is only 8 months older than Arjun Nimmala and is hitting: .268/.372/.465 20 games, 17 strikeouts and 10 walks, 3 homers! and 2 steals. his OPS is 15th out of 100 qualified FSL hitters one of only 5 hitters under 20 in the FSL with an OPS over .800 his 20 year old fellow outfielders Victor Arias and Yhoangel Aponte are also having interesting seasons, but the K rates are a bit of a concern
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 Some good news from the farm yesterday: Alan Roden with 4-for-5 with 2 home runs. Power is starting to show with 3 homers in his last 6 games. He's on a 29-homer per 162 games pace right now which is much improved from last season. K/BB rates still looking solid, walking almost as much as striking out. One thing to monitor here is that the org seems to be shielding him from facing lefties, so they might just project him as a platoon player. Either way though, assuming he keeps playing well, we could see him in AAA pretty soon (it's his age 24 season) and then probably a 40-man consideration for the offseason. Josh Kasevich with another 3-for-4 day with a 2B. He's still hit over power, but his SLG is trending upwards with him almost matching his doubles total from last season in a third of the PAs. Becoming more bullish on his ability to develop into a starter with strong defense and high contact, especially if he can tap into a little more power. Adam Macko with a 5IP, 2H, 1ER, 3BB, 6K Roden has displayed pretty sizeable L/R splits in every season of his career so it appears he will most likely be a platoon bat moving forward.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Ryan Jennings might be a guy: Went 6IP, 3H, 1ER, 0BB, 6K today for the C’s dropping his season ERA to 2.59 and a 9.5 K/9. He was actually a senior sign in 2022 so significantly older for the level. Would like to see him challenged in AA sooner rather than later, but his pitch profile is interesting:
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Pardhino at AA at 23 19 IP K/9 - 11.84 BB/9 - 1.42 xFIP - 2.24 I can't wait for them to promote him to AAA so he can completely fall apart.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Connor Cooke has the worst xFIP in the org so far this season Didn't see that coming. Appears to have lost all control of his arsenal as his BB/9 has sky rocketed.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Maroudis getting hurt sucks but at least Fernando Perez is continuing to pitch well at low A as a 20 year old. K/9 - 10.35 BB/9 - 2.52 xFIP - 3.09
Barrelsandbombs Verified Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Is it true that down in Buffalo, Orelvis is back to playing 3B, and Horwitz is splitting time in 2B and LF now? And could this mean their chances of getting a callup increase?

And could this mean their chances of getting a callup increase? I don't think it really changes their odds of getting the call OM has always had 3B on his resume they just focused in on 2B to begin this year for whatever reason SH would only be an emergency 2B for the Jays anyway. Really tough to see him getting a single inning there unless there are 2 major infield injuries ahead of him.

Yep, he did go 2 for 2 yesterday with a 2B, HR and 4 RBI in the first game of a double header yesterday. Unfortunately he went 0 for 5 with 4 K's in the second game lol
Benito Verified Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Didn't see this posted yet. Anyone have any scouting report or info on this guy?
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Just looks like a power projection lotto ticket
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 If Orelvis could play 3B defensively then I have a hard time believing they’d convert him to 2B given the organization wide hole at 3B. My guess is they are keeping everyone as versatile as possible in terms of playing multiple positions.

I don't recall reading any reports that stated Orelvis was anything better than below average at third base, but at the same time there weren't reports of him being an absolute butcher at the position either. Perhaps this could be a case of where the short throw at second base messed with his head or something although I haven't broken down the ratios of throwing errors to errors due to shoddy glovework.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Looks like 1B/3B Riley Tirotta has been promoted to AAA

AMS528 Verified Member Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) Man the numbers Gabriel Martinez, Alex De Jesus, and Miguel Hiraldo have put up in AA this year may as well be their death knell for whatever chance they had as long shot prospects. No one has even had a good season from these borderline types across the levels. Aponte, Toman etc. The hitting prospects are particularly dire for this team. Even the guys who get mentioned as having good years, like Roden, and Kasevich have been decent but not great, and have fairly clear limitations (splits, literally zero power). There's incredibly few guys who you can look at and say, this guy is having a no doubt excellent season that we can get excited about for the future. Barger probably counts, even though he struggled when he was up cause his numbers are genuinely great. He's 24 and his second full season at AAA which tempers the excitement a bit. Bohrofen has been good, and that's about it. There's been a few pitchers who look interesting, but really there are the same issues where no one has broken out and looked like, ok this is a possible top three starter someday in the future. This is not a fun minor league system to follow at this point. I have to think with Nimmala struggling, Barriera having another lost year, and Tiedemann having persistent injury concerns, this team is going to be in the bottom 5 again for most prospect lists. Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Yeah the top 3 pitching prospects all went down in the same week and there isn't a ton of high end guys to follow after them.

Nope, it is not good. There are no reinforcements coming. I thought Barger actually looked good. Horwitz is Lyle Overbay lite, Orelvis might be okay. Good thing Davis Schneider appeared out of thin air

Rogers needs to fire Shapiro and Atkins right now. Who cares if there is no team in place for the draft, just using the baseball america rankings or something for the draft will be better than another Shapiro/Atkins draft.

Horwitz is Lyle Overbay lite, Orelvis might be okay. Good thing Davis Schneider appeared out of thin air One of the problems with Horwitz is that he's going to waste his prime in Buffalo. Basically age 25-27 will be his best years and I honestly believe he would hit well enough those three years. By the time he is in the majors he will be post prime. Barger is 24 and also could be wasting one of his best seasons in the minors. Kind of like Kevin Pillar. Was able to be a part of a great team at age 26 but then started declining after his first full year. Good organization would get players like this up age 24 through 28 so you get their best years. Like the players that could give 3 WAR years in their prime are wasting them in Buffalo while Turner and Vogelbeach use up the at bats to get -0.4 war.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 https://www.milb.com/player/enmanuel-bonilla-806962 Emanuel Bonilla hitting .243 .286 .414 with a 2 to 23 bb/k in a super low league he should be dominating. This is like the guys that play at 9:00 am before the real low level A league team plays. He sucks. Nimilla and Bonilla have both had horrible seasons and yes they are young, but the odds are against them now. I'm sort of double posting but the other guy mentioned in his thread we have no international players with fire, like Julio-Rod or Sota except for Vlad. Does anyone have any concept of what those 3 did at 18 ? Really good players reach A+ at 18 hitting .345 with awesome k/bb. Players that are destined to make the majors hold their own at these leagues. You know what Bonilla and Nimalla's future is? Go to New Hampshire watch the Beltre and De'Jesus guy. Nimmilla and Bonilla will be lucky if they get that far.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Bonilla had such a hot start to his season too. Not really.pumped about their futures now, especially being groomed by the org that has developed players like......ummm........ahhh, errrr....

I have to think with Nimmala struggling, Barriera having another lost year, and Tiedemann having persistent injury concerns, this team is going to be in the bottom 5 again for most prospect lists. Worth noting that our A-ball team plays in the Florida State League which is a death sentence for hitters, so you have to grade them on a curve. They have the 2nd youngest avg batters age in the FCL and yet are 3rd best in run scoring. Looking at OPS alone is a bit deceptive. By wRC+, given most of these players are still younger for the level, they seem to be holding their own: Victor Arias, 123 wRC+ Edward Duran, 115 wRC+ Yhoangel Aponte, 107 wRC+ Manuel Beltre, 105 wRC+ Tucker Toman, 101 wRC+ Like I don't think they are going to develop into can't-miss superstar-level talents, but they can still turn into useful big leaguers given how young they are. I agree though, there's a distinct lack of impact hitting prospects in this pipeline at the moment beyond maybe Orelvis. And even then, he's has a career .239 batting average in the minors which raises red flags for me in his ability to make contact at the major league levels.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Meanwhile, top hitting prospects for the Rays: Junior Caminero, 20 years old in AAA: 111 wRC+ Carson Williams: 21 years old in AA, 188 wRC+ Xavier Isaac: 20 years old in High-A, 146 wRC+ Brailer Guerrero: 18 year old in the FCL, 196 wRC+ - probably the next Rays uber prospect Orioles still have Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo and Heston Kjerstad in their system Yankees have had some good young position player talent in Volpe and Dominguez Like if Davis Schneider didn't develop out of nowhere, we'd be looking at no impact hitting talent graduating since the Vlad/Bo era started. Pretty pathetic.
