Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 His last 3 outings are higher fwiw Not much.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 This Richard Urena kid is pretty good. It's probably just a nice hot streak but, in case it's the real deal, maybe he's one of those rare players who just improve dramatically at the big league level compared to the minors?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Vancouver won game 4 by a score of 2-1 to win the NWL Championship last night. Logan Warmoth hit a 2 run single in the 5th to take the lead back and it held from there.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 This Richard Urena kid is pretty good. The next Jose Ramirez (The kid hides his pee every time he goes to the bathroom)
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 Not much. Probably not. Just pointing it out.

He has had some success in the minors and shown periods of very good play so you know he's got it in him.

It probably is, but I'm still impressed by his approach at the plate. Doesn't swing at garbage and waits for a good pitch. Barrel's the ball well. Seems to be able to take a walk. We'll see how he does when the league catches up to him, but so far his AB's regardless of the result have impressed me.
Ray Verified Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Callis doing his predictions for who'll be the Top 10 prospects a year from now. Vlad #1, Bo #4 1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B, Blue Jays (No. 3) Inherited his father's offensive prowess and has more plate discipline, which could make him the next Miguel Cabrera. 4. Bo Bichette, SS/2B, Blue Jays (No. 25) Dante's son hit .362 in his first full season to become Minors' first teenaged batting champion in 54 years. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/254004168/looking-ahead-to-the-2018-top-10-prospects/?topicid=151437456
Drumcliff Verified Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 B.C. native Brayden Bouchey was pretty much fantastic in his last eight appearances for Northwest League champs Vancouver, including three in the playoffs: 12.1 innings, NO hits, 1 walk, 16 Ks. In the championship series against Eugene, 5 innings, no walks or hits, 7 Ks.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 2 minor league championship teams this year certainly not a bad thing. Buffalo and New Hampshire were horrendous though.

Ridiculous.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I could see Urena ending up as a lesser Didi Gregorious.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I could see Urena ending up as a lesser Didi Gregorious. I'm not sure he'd be a lesser one. That's probably a pretty good comparison straight up.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I'm not sure he'd be a lesser one. That's probably a pretty good comparison straight up. I would take that.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 How much lesser of a Gregorius? That's kind of an important question...
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I'm not sure he'd be a lesser one. That's probably a pretty good comparison straight up. The same Gregorius who's averaged 3 WAR over the past 3 years? That's probably a 95th percentile projection for Urena, who projects around replacement with a ~65 wRC+ and scratch defense. I'd settle for 1 Win/600 as the middle infield backup guy getting ~300 PA (though probably more like 450 with our two glass girls up the middle).

In terms of their skill set, minor league numbers, etc they both appear to be very similar players. Forget Urena's projected wRC+, that's just for this year, and he's coming up straight out of AA. I don't expect him to be this year's Gregorius next year or anything, but I could very easily see their career trajectories being similar.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I'm hoping Urena can be like Starlin castro: overall league average bat, average-driven OBP, 15-20 HR, adequate but not plus D at the MIF spots. I think he'll be a frustrating and at times tantalizing player. Hopefully a guy who can average 2 WAR per controllable year.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 who would you take as your backups next year Teoscar or Zeke Urena or Barney/Goins to me, its a no brainer to go with the young guys.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 who would you take as your backups next year Teoscar or Zeke Zeke, with Teoscar as a starter. Urena or Barney/Goins. Gurriel.

If you think the young guys could be regulars in the future, then you don't use them as backups next year. They either start in the MLB, or in AAA. I really, REALLY don't want to see Zeke next year. Maybe sign Saunders cheap to be the backup / platoon, since Teoscar could probably handle CF if Pillar was to go down. Also, if we're not gonna play Pearce at all at 2nd when needed, then trade him. Part of his value is in the lineup flexibility.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 league average bat at middle IF spot does not include 15-20hr. There are different ways to be a league average bat, so yes, it can. Javier Baez has 22 HR and is exactly a league average bat.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Zeke, with Teoscar as a starter. I'll take J.D. Martinez in LF and then let Pillar/Alford/Teoscar battle it out for the other 2 spots and 4th OF.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 league average bat at middle IF spot does not include 15-20hr. Last year Starlin Castro put up a 94 wRC+ with 21 home runs.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Last year Starlin Castro put up a 94 wRC+ with 21 home runs. Pretty much everyone hits 20 HR these days; OBP is the separator. If you hit 20 HR with a .300 OBP, you're a below league average bat. If you hit 20 HR with a .330 OBP, you're a slightly above league average bat. If you hit 20 HR with a .350 OBP (at SS/2B), you are a star level player (assuming defence is there).
