JFD Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 So, who do you guys think we should go with for game 2? Stro or Dickey? Going with Dickey would allow us to have him pitch at home with the Dome likely closed (if this current cold weather spell keeps up) in which he's a noticeably better pitcher, but then the guy who goes game 2 is probably also the guy for game 5 if it comes down to that as well, for which I'm sure lot of people would prefer Stro over Dickey... depends how game 1 goes. they have to give themselves the best chance possible to take game 2, if they lose the first one.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Not sure why but my The Score App show the Jays and Texas playing Oct 8 and 9 and 11 then it says Texas plays Kansas City Oct 14 A little presumptuous on their part don't ya think? Hopefully the Jays make them pay for it.

I think it's a tough call, Dickey has pitched really well in second half of season and tends to pitch better at home. Saying that Stroman has been lights out. Glad I don't have to make it.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Stroman's GB rate would be really good in that Texas park and you get the advantage of Dickey in the dome. On the other hand, you don't really have the dickey effect if he pitches game 2 with the travel day and then if it comes down to game 5 you miss Stroman.

Maybe only Price - I think they go with a 4 man rotation assuming to their not on the verge of being eliminated in game 4

art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 The "Dickey effect" is overrated. I agree. I don't even know why people talk about it. Just look at the relievers coming in after Dickey this season. If this thing was ever true, we should see it there. We are now talking about the same game, not even the same series. Maybe it'll take a couple of pitches for the batters to adjust but within an AB?? I for one haven't seen it...

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Am I the only one that thinks we will go with 4 men rotation? Price, RA, Stroman, Estrada and Price? 100%. Estrada has earned it
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Yes really Do you have any math to back you up? Those who assert it that it has an effect cetainly do. http://www.fangraphs.com/community/the-r-a-dickey-effect-2013-edition/
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 I'd rather have Price, Stroman, RA, Estrada if we're using Dickey-Effect as a tactic. The first two give us our best chance to win. Dickey in Game 3 could easily be a winner too, but if not Estrada reaps the benefits of the Dickey-Effect, no?

I think the generally held belief is that hard throwers benefit more but I don't know if there are any numbers to bear that out or if that's merely a hunch. The Dickey effect is mainly a suppression of homerun percentage which is certainly the kind of thing that Estrada as much as anyone could benefit from.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 There's an off day after game 2 so how does that effect the dickey effect? I'd say go dickey game 3, I think Estrada needs the boost more than stro
Cyris Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 100%. Estrada has earned it Its the playoffs. Who cares what someone has "earned". You have him pitch if you feel he gives you the best chance to win and that's it.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 If Gibby has cajones and wants to piss off everyone, start Dickey game 1
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 If Gibby has cajones and wants to piss off everyone, start Dickey game 1 I'd be fine with it if it's a 3 man rotation and Price is sloted for games 2 and 5 (if necessary) but if it's a 4 man rotation than f*** that.

You have him pitch if you feel he gives you the best chance to win and that's it. Implicitly he has earned it since he's pitched fine. I think they also won't want to abuse Stroman too much in a 3man rotation so there's not many other options here

rydermike Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 When does the roster get released? I figure after the WC, but does it have to be a certain date/time? I never paid attention to actual rosters in the past few years, since the Jays haven't been in it. Just would watch games

I never paid attention to actual rosters in the past few years, since the Jays haven't been in it. Just would watch games Pretty sure it just gets submitted prior to the first game of the series. Each series you can adjust your roster, so some teams could add a rotation arm for the 7 game series from their secondary squad (basically those eligible but left off the roster) and shorten the bench if they feel it's an advantage.
rydermike Verified Member Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 So, if the game starts at 7:07; theoretically we have until 7:06 (basically whenever they hand in the lineup card to the ump)?

Considering they've told Buehrle he's not on the roster, it's been already set. We just find out whenever.
