Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 i can see both Sanchez and Osuna spending time both as starters and in the bullpen in 2016. Would like to see Osuna mimic the use of Sanchez this year, minus the time on DL. Nothing wrong with our very own Mariano Rivera either
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Osuna's personal accountant should tell him that being a reliever is not in his best interest for the future. Yes, yes, yes. Try it out. I'll be curious to see if he can scale back and still get a lot of swing and misses.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 He has the arsenal to start. Would probably sit ~93, slider and changeup both look plus in relief, most of the time. No reason he couldn't develop a decent two-seamer. The only reason not to try him as a SP might be his mechanics. He has a big elbow lift and his arm is late. It's noticeable even in real time video. Helps him throw hard but probably increases stress on his elbow. Now, there's more to mechanics than elbows and arms. Things like when his shoulder turn happens and how stiff his front leg is also impact stress on the arm, and thus durability. He could have decent mechanics all things considered. But if the team doesn't think his mechanics look clean, then he should probably be left in the bullpen. Better to have a healthy reliever than a starter on the operating table. So it depends on the bio-mechanical analysis! Another factor now also is how many innings could you even expect from him in 2016 as a starter? 100? Edit: I see you adressed that in a post already.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Start him. Try Cecil again as closer.
tazsub3 Verified Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Why change what is working?? I would not change a thing for next year. In two years when dickey is gone, I would reconsider
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Osuna likes the bullpen and Sanchez likes starting, but both are better doing the opposite of what they like. The problem with Osuna is the jump in innings next year as a starter. Can his arm handle it? Yes.
baubau Verified Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Why change what is working? Because it can work better? You always look for ways to improve your team. Osuna in the rotation could accomplish that. Don't worry about two years, both Burly and Estrada are gone next year. There is room.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 What about Price? He will be gone too? You mentioned Estrada and Burly only The only guys from the end of season rotation likely to be back are Dickey and Stro

Good catch! There is also Hutch whom will be back but I am not sure what the Jay's plan with him are.

Hutch is a maybe, but assuming he still has options, I expect the Jays will want him in Buffalo at least to start the year (depth). Stro FA Dickey Sanchez/Osuna ? IMO, the ? will be whoever Pillar and lesser pieces returns in a trade.

Either way, I try not to look to much at salaries. I hope if the team keeps producing, so will Rogers.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 QO for Estrada? I think so.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Isn't a QO around $16M now? You really want to offer than to Estrada...even if it is for just 1 year?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 if I were Estrada I wouldn't take that. He's already 32, he can get a 3 year contract easily that is way more than $10m per year. So yeah, lets offer the QO.
