G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Would Donaldson sign an extension for Freddie Freeman money?
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Would Donaldson sign an extension for Freddie Freeman money? He's twice the player of Freddie freeman.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 He's twice the player of Freddie freeman. That's not the point.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 He's twice the player of Freddie freeman. For sure But most thought Freeman was overpaid It's always a gamble to buy out a few post-arb years at this point in their careers, but I'd sure try to do it with JD
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Donaldson will get David Price-level arbitration awards at this rate It won't be cheap to just let it happen
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 That's not the point. That's probably what Donaldson would think. I don't even know how much freeman got.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 That's probably what Donaldson would think. I don't even know how much freeman got. 8 yrs/$135M (2014-2021) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/freemfr01.shtml

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 1.) A new right fielder. Heyward would look nice, but may be out of our budget 2.) A new closer. I want Osuna in the rotation
500LevelSTH Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I think Donaldson will go to arb this year and they will talk longterm once other pieces are starting to fall into place. Hes worth every f***ing penny he gets. He will get paid his money in 2016 regardless.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Yeah he definitely won't accept that lol. Yeah almost certainly not He'd prob want Longoria's deal and you can't blame him
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 He did hit. For majority of 2/3 of the season in the minors. Can't judge him on 1 PA so far after being called up. Hopefully the Jays clinch soon so Gibby will use him to rest guys. E: blah! On my phone. This was @G-S Too many holes in Pompeys swing. Maybe Brook can fix him but write now he is a 2 tool player. Pillar, JoeyBats and Revere are solid enough. Gotta get Price. I am hoping that Tulo, JD, Stro etc have made enough of an impression to get him to stay for a little less.

I want Osuna in the rotation 1. Unless Pompey looks legit in winter ball (hopefully they are sending him there) 2. Agree, Osuna needs a shot at starting
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Yeah almost certainly not He'd prob want Longoria's deal and you can't blame him He wouldn't accept longo's deal either. It was a bargain.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Force of habit, but the calendar is turning to October, so naturally my focus is trying to turn to next season. Although, looking forward to next year for some solace is not the case this year FINALLY, I will make 1 prediction. Carlos Carrasco will be in the Blue Jays rotation come April 2016.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Carassco would be great, to go with Stroman, Dickey, we would still need another arm, assuming Hutch gets the fifth spot. I would like to try osuna as a starter.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 sign Price - you need an ace/anchor for the pitching staff - love the guy but too expensive. He'll probably get 7/$210 2. trade for Chapman - truly solidify the closer and allow Osuna to start - no bullpen is fine as is, without depleting farm further. 3. sign next year's Lowe for the bullpen - or what about just Lowe.? 4. qualify Buehrle - no. Let him go. 5. qualify Estrada? not sure on this, probably like to sign him for 2 or 3 years. Would prefer to see him signed for 2-3 years as well. He'll probably want a 5 year deal though. Too inconsistent for that. 6. pick up Dickey option - Yeah. 7. pick up EE and JB options - and then trade at least one of these guys away. Would be good to replenish the farm a little, and EE should bring in a nice haul.

500LevelSTH Verified Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Who gives a f*** about the farm, its about winning NOW - and this team has a short window to win with a couple tweaks beyond 2015. Win a WS this year or next and we can wait until the farm replenishes in a few years.
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Brett+Cecil+yiSVT6YjtLdm.jpg I wouldn't like Cecil as a closer, even if he seems to be the right guy. The flexibility and confidence he has when dropped in to any high leverage situation at any point in the game is where he's most valuable imo. He's the most versatile pitcher out of the pen and arguably harder to replace than finding a closer who 2/3rds of the time is not facing the meat of the order.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 btw, we probably are going to need some serious depth in the rotation. If we go with Osuna and Stroman in the rotation next year, they will be on an innings limit. So we definitely need to resign Dickey.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 You just know aa is going to give Sanchez another chance to start.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 You just know aa is going to give Sanchez another chance to start. He will enter spring training with a chance to win a starting spot Nothing more, nothing less

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I say let Donaldson go to arbitration for 2016 rather than try to sign him. The Jays need a short term outlook which is between now and the end of 2016. This roster, including Price, is up there with the 1998 Yankees in terms of talent, and I'd love to see what they can do over a full season. They might achieve team records never again reached by another Jays squad. Committing big $ to Donaldson now might negatively impact the ability to sign Price. Of course if they can sign Donaldson and Price that's even better.
