    Hopefully we can ship out other relievers for lotto tickets, so we will probably need Giles this year. Great way to fill a void after the TD and recoup value when there is no pressure to win.

    Whether you like it or not, off-the-field issues (heck on the field ones too... cough Escobar, Pillar cough) can distract and hurt the bottom line of a team. The media was never going to let this go until he was gone (heck just take a look at the s*** being flung at the Astros right now). They needed to get out from this if the goal was to create momentum for 2019 with a youth movement (and two other teams in TO potentially eating into their attendance / disposable income pockets). The fact they got arguable fair value for a player who hasn't played in 3 months leads me to believe that management knew his value and did very well. I'm happy.

    Curious what the '+' is but I'm in wait-and-see mode on this. If they can 'fix' Giles, he is a candidate to be flipped for a small haul in the next year. People talk about Osuna recouping value, but we also have a chance to do the same with Giles, without the constant headache of assault charges following the team.

    McKinney was drafted in the 1st round (not saying this is his value, but just that draft position doesn't always equate to future value)... so the thought that a 2nd round pick could have more value is a big and dangerous assumption, IMO

    Jays didn't take on too much cash in either deal today. Obviously Shapiro/Atkins may be under orders to also reduce payroll given how the team is performing and attendance is s***, but I'm secretly hoping they can send a piece of lesser value out the door (e.g., Axford, Solarte, Granderson) and take back some salary in exchange for a better return. Bundling a salary dump with a prospect may be the only way some of these replacement level players are moved for anything resembling future value.

    Healthy - JD/Solarte/Diaz/Gurriel/Drury/Travis/Tulo Given the focus should be purely on player evaluation for the rest of 2018, there are too many infielders that need nightly MLB reps to not move a bench/infield piece... With that said, we are one (regularly scheduled) Travis injury away from a Solarte/Diaz/Gurriel/Drury infield. And who the hell knows when Tulo or JD will be ready.

    I have no issue with stockpiling assets anywhere on the diamond. This team has so far to go when it comes to constructing a championship calibre rotation that I'm cool if they want to roll the dice with a bunch of infield prospects for a couple years to see what sticks.

    While I generally agree... I think his price point and initial asking price from the Jays would be justified if his performance from June was maintained. This is a rental, and recent performances that show cracks in someones game is important when assessing if the price you pay. We're not talking about 2, 3, 4 year projections here. We are talking about every start from Happ having an impact on the pennant race... so ya, 4 games where Happ showed holes in his game does matter as it erodes the confidence in the buyer that they are getting the player from June and not July. Do you think we could of gotten the same package for Oh at the end of June? I doubt it. His bounce back in July helped display that he can still (somewhat) lock it down. It's the same reason why the Jays aren't going to sell JD for a bag of balls. Recent performance (yes, and health) for rentals plays a factor in their value. Again, not saying this is the sole or main reason his price dropped, but a contributing factor.

    While I'm not shocked at the return, I think the mistake here was hoping that the demand (and price) for Happ would increase as we got closer to the deadline. Instead, more teams became sellers + Happ having a poor month = significant drop in his value on the market. I think the media helped fuel some narrative that Happ is some primo piece that could be moved at the deadline due to his great June (and all-star appearance), but the market never materialized. Also.... all the position prospects belong to us!

    Grab value while you can. Given Oh's previous season, he could turn into a pumpkin before the next deadline and ruin all value altogether. Other teams also know this. They were never going to put together a package we couldn't refuse. We just needed to sort out what pieces, out of the garbage piles that were probably offered, we had the most affinity for.

    I am buying what Hurl said earlier in the thread. Too much flexibility for the buyer, and thus ticket brokers. While it may suck for out-of-towners and the like, it's kind of hard to fault a team for simply doing away with an antiquated system, and catching up the league standard with dynamic pricing. It blows my mind that I paid ~$100 bucks a seat for 81 games in the 500 level so many years in a row with the ballpark pass...

    Voted 'Good' as this felt like the type of offseason that is trying to bridge the gap between now and future success, without handcuffing more salary in ageing players or volatile BP pieces. Something I think the casuals are disappointed in, but will be happy about in 2 years. He has also left himself some salary wiggle-room to go out during the season and bring in salary dumps if they can help the team. Overall, I'm glad we didn't spend like drunken sailors in FA or on extensions, and become the dice-roll that is the Detroit Tigers. I saw someone say 'shrewd', and that is a great way to classify this offseason for a team that just needed some tweaking.

    Putting grass in the RC would be an infrastructural nightmare. We all secretly knew Beest was blowing smoke as the date kept being pushed back. Hard pass if it means we see those funds spent on other improvements the RC needs, like new/less seats and a more open concourse space. Our concourses feel like you are in the bloody TTC. Also, a note about the Shapiro hate... remember all those CLE fans that were happy to see him gone? This seems to be a trend with how he operates.
