Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 We have added depth to our rotation. We are I believe 4 deep now in Stroman, Estrada, Dickie & Happ. Chaves and Hutchinson provide depth in case of injury. Do you believe we will still be in on a Tier 1 Pitcher? Or like me believe it will now be Tier 2? I say its from the list of Zimmermann, Gillardo, Chen, Samardzija, Iwakuma Who else do you believe could be on our radar? I think that we've used up enough payroll that we are out on all of the pitchers you listed. I don't think any of them, especially the last 3, had any interest in signing here. If they did, we probably wouldn't have jumped on Happ so early. If we sign any more FA starters, I'd expect them to be more in the Blanton/Young/Cahill/Lincecum tier. The smart move in my opinion is to give Sanchez a legit shot to start in ST and add a late inning arm or two later in the offseason.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 1. sign at least one good pen arm to a major league deal 2. non-tender Smoak and Thole 3. re-sign Thole to a league min deal 4. sign multiple minor league SP and RP to provide depth /offseason
MusicaEsLivida Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I wanna see Gillardo. I think he makes the perfect compliment. Then we would have control over Stroman, Estrada, Happ and Gillardo for at least the next 3 years.

nonamejays Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I think the Jays need 2 good bullpen pieces as insurance in case any/all of the 4 middling starters regress significantly. Other than that, I guess it's done.

I feel like this would be a mistake.

Sign or trade Revere for one more Jesse Chavez kind of guy. Sign or trade Revere for bullpen arm. Sign tons of minor league Arms.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 At this point given our top 5 arms, I'd expect Revere to be back. Unless a trade is on the horizon, I doubt I'm wrong.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 You do understand that people don't usually read other peoples posts on the internet They react and forget Well then. Not satisfied with the starting pitching. A front line starter in Stroman who has never pitched a full MLB season, and 4 #4/5 types doesn't cut it for me. If Jays are close to budget limit, should move position player salary and acquire a #2/3 starter. Revere and Tulo are possibilities to be moved. Although many on this board are emotionally attached to Tulo, I don't give a s***.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 They will upgrade the team wherever the best available value is. That's been their mo the last year and a bit.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 No money left, just BP pieces at this point, we are going into the season with a scrub rotation yay. Lets hope the bullpen is dominant, but there are holes there too.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Dickey/Revere moved frees up cash. Pls Shapiro.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I'm pretty sure Happ IS the second tier pitcher.

wamco Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 sign a closer type and use osuna in the rotation for the first half. Then move osuna to the pen and Chavez into the rotation.

Ultimate Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 If the payroll is 140 M. There is no way that they have Jesse Chavez at 4.7 slotted as the 6 starter. If they add starters it will be flyers who can slot in at 6 or 7 behind Chavez at 5. Brandon Morrow types. IF the number is 140, they have about 5 million to spend. But that can be increased by tendering Thole and I expect they will either non tender Saunders or trade Revere. I would have thought about non tendering Smoak too (he did nothing to increase his value from what it was a year ago at 1 million), but letting Hague go makes me think the team is not considering that.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Do we know if Saunders will be 100% going into ST this year? He has rarely ever been and we don't know the effect of the surgery he had. With his luck he will get hit by lightening or mauled by a bear in BC this off season.

Trade Revere for a bullpen piece, sign another bullpen piece and spend the remaining $6m on Chris Young if he would have us of course.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Non tender both Thole and Saunders and bring both back on lesser/minor league deals. I wouldn't guarantee Saunders anything with the injury he is coming off of, and Revere is a better bet than him going forward.

If he is reasonably healthy, would not want to take the chance of losing him.
