Governator Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Post it. That's awesome. Its interesting when players like Morneau and others from that era are interviewed they credit the great Jays teams from 85 ish on helping to inspire them to want to play baseball. It created a groundswell across Canada. Can you spot me? http://i.imgur.com/ZuhLJ9D.jpg

bluejays19 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I was born in 88 but I used to watch here and there growing up. I remember watching and liked these players: Tony Fernandez Roger Clemens Carlos Delgado Alex Rodriguez Shawn Green Shannon Stewart I think I got more into it during NHL lockout during 04-05. I attended my first game in 2010 and have been following alot more closely since then. Jose Bautista surely made me enjoy baseball more and my fave player last year was Melky Cabrera. Was so sad he left but I don't care anymore since this years Jays are doing better without him. My new fave players are Buherle, Edwing, Tulo, Donaldson, Martin lol
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I remember when they announced that Toronto was getting a team. I remember getting tickets for games during the Ex and that way you got free entry into the Ex and see games. I remember being there in April for a game with snow coming down. I remember the bleacher creatures in the blue seats. I've been a jays fan since 1977.
Cookie Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I watched growing up with my dad and I played ball but I have distinct memories of running home on my own after school to watch in 92 and 93 when I was 12ish. I've always loosely followed and caught games when I could over the years. In the last 3 years since my own kids started playing ball and I've been coaching I started watching more regularly. I lived in Montreal for a few years and my brother and I spent many afternoons at the Big O. And man, those tickets were cheap.
fapaholic Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Started watching sometime in the early 80's and got hooked in 85. That collapse against the Royals still stings.

Whereabouts did you grow up? Aurora - back then it wasn't diverse at all. Well that is amazing. BJ track pants - straight out of the Sears catalog. Thanks for posting this. lol. My mom did like 90% of her shopping from the Sears catalog, there were no shopping centres in Aurora. Circling toys from the Sears Wish Book for my Christmas list was a thing.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 When Brad Fullmer's batting stance graced the Jays. Earliest memory is late 90's, die hard since 2000
TRM Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 My earliest memory was one of the first games I ever went to. Doc's second career start, where he had a no hitter into the ninth inning.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I vaguely remember 99 and 00 but I really got into the jays in 01 I'd say
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I started watching casually in '91 at 11 years old, got hooked in '92. Great timing to say the least.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 My first memory of baseball was back in like 1990. I'd come home every day and catch the end of the Cubs games on WGN. Sandberg was my favorite, but they also had Grace, Dunston (and his cannon), Dawson and Greg Maddux. My dad would still be working (farmer) and I'd have the TV to myself. The Jays games were on at night (and not always on TV) and dad would dominate the TV when he got home, so I couldn't watch them as much. Definitely became a Jays fan in 92/93... Although at the same time, I also started becoming a White Sox fan....no idea why. Their games were also on WGN from time to time. That was back when it was Black Jack McDowell, Fernandez, Alverez, Bere, Roberto Hernandez and Big Frank Thomas - my favorite player. I also loved the Braves back in the day too with Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Jones, etc. I was a die hard White Sox fan for probably a good 12-15 years (although I still followed the Jays). I converted back to the Jays in about 2006 I think +/-. Really have gotten into it since AA was hired. This season is by far my most enjoyable ever though as my first born son (who I named Maddux ), who's just 5 has become a huge baseball / Blue Jays fan. If we aren't playing on the front lawn, we're watching the Jays game. He's right into knowing the players names/numbers....Who knew I could enjoy this game so much...nothing better than him sitting in my arms watching the Jays make a magical run towards the playoffs for the first time in 22 years...

I guess you'll have to head to Wrigley when we face the Cubs in the World Series.

Yeah, I became a Cubs fan (still am) too because they happened to be on WGN when I got home from school. I never got interested in the White Sox though. So I have been a Jays and Cubs fan for nearly my whole life.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Started watching baseball for the first time with the 1985 LCS although by then I had already been to a stadium. Saw the Gary Carter era Expos lose to the Giants in the nose bleeds of the Big O. All I remember is really bad hecklers where we were sitting and really bad vertigo. I still can't stand to sit in the nosebleeds to this day.

Hipfan Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Earliest memory was going to the Ex around 84/85, when I was 4/5. Jays beat Baltimore 9-4 or 9-5. Been a fan for as long as I can remember, which goes back about as far as that game.
