Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Again, you seem to find it hilarious that Goins 'hot streak' didn't continue so some posters could be proved wrong. smh Re. this thread I suggest you take a look back after his poorer starts, and i'm sure you will find plenty of 'I told you so' posts from the other side of the fence. Didn't tercet once post before the first inning was through. Surely all fans want their teams to succeed over points scoring on an internet forum. Tercet is a bit of an abrasive moron though. I think it's human nature to enjoy being right, however fleeting. Goins, unlike Sanchez, was never anything. He's a trash player who doesn't belong in the big leagues. The worst thing that could have happened was him having a fluky little streak and buying himself a bunch of rope to piss away at bats as one of the worst hitters in baseball. So with him, unless you're an idiot like theblujay, there was never any hope of good performance and thus no point in holding our breaths waiting for it.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 You're posts are consistently garbage and are all about" I told you so". and making broad generalizations about a group of posters, a troll basically.. Can you prove it is the same posters posting the things you arer saying? I await your research. Nope I'm a troll. Brilliant work, master sleuth.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Offense and defense are very different. You can only make 3 positive contributions (outs) on defense per half inning, but on offense, you can continue, theoretically, infinitely, provided you don't make 3 outs. There's no limit, so you want as many good hitters as possible. Hope I'm explaining this well, it's really JFaS' point and he originally explained it far better than I have. If JFaS made that distinction then he is one of the smartest people I know of. Thats a downright beautiful point. Amazing
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) You can't lump Tercet in with us. Boxcar wants Sanchez and Goins to succeed and so do I. That sentiment has been well-documented. We are all Blue Jays fans (even BTS) and are not explicitly trying to score points; the more informed fans are simply trying to help the Sanchez and Goins believers understand the game better. It's a beautiful game. Arrogant comment. Who are these less informed fans you speak of? If you include me, note that I have a master's degree in engineering, 25 yrs experience working as a P.Eng, and been watching the game of baseball since 1975 and the Big Red Machine. I'm aware and understand the advanced statistics. They aren't the end all and be all, they have considerable limitations. There are a fair number of quite knowledgeable posters on here. But don't assume you know who is more informed. Edited June 7, 2015 by Jimcanuck

He is an viable AAAA player, up and down between AAA and the bigs.

Being one of the best defenders in the league is a thing. So you're wrong
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Goins will always be a bench player but his bat can at least be around ,600 ops and he'll find a job
Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I really enjoy watching him make some great defensive plays, he reminds me of JohnnyMac. With his fielding skills if he had an average bat he would be an everyday player but he hasn't that's why he's only playing due to Travis' (or Reyes before him) injury.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Not true. He is an viable AAAA player, up and down between AAA and the bigs. Based on what?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Being one of the best defenders in the league is a thing. So you're wrong He more than makes up for that with his bat.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 He more than makes up for that with his bat. The offense is good enough to carry 1 poor hitter.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 do you guys ever get tired of arguing about the same 3 players everyday?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 It's not necessary fans who aren't well-versed in advanced statistics that I was speaking to, it's the subset of fans who think Goins and Sanchez are 'fixed' whenever they put together a few good games in a row. Really bad players have been fluking their way into good stretches for over 100 years; the mountain of prior evidence suggests the good stretches are meaningless. This is the message we try to spread to others who are consistently fooled. Yup cause those paper Thin stats gave us the World Series Champs last year! Reality is a bitch that slapped your numbers in the face and said " That's why we play the games" fysmc
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 The offense is good enough to carry 1 poor hitter. What happened to you being in love with the exponential offense idea
Caper Verified Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 What happened to you being in love with the exponential offense idea I think aiming to put a team together where you attempt to stay at the plate for infinity, is a bit ridiculous. Goins has played in more games then he hasn't this year and despite that the Jays have put up more offense then most any other team.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I think aiming to put a team together where you attempt to stay at the plate for infinity, is a bit ridiculous. Yes, because this is the actual objective. Ok.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Yes, because this is the actual objective. Ok. Ok. Correct. I was being flippant. But still. I think you greatly underestimate the value of great defense.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I think there's more value to be gleamed from a high-powered offense. I'll look into it.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I think there's more value to be gleamed from a high-powered offense. I'll look into it. I'm sure there is. Then again, Ive looked at TB's offense over the years and wondered how they managed to win games. Pitching obviously, but great D as well.

Pitching obviously, but great D as well. From 2008-2013, TB had the highest position player WAR in all of baseball. Pitching was average-slightly above. Another myth about the Rays that never seems to go away. E: actually, you can change that to just "since 2008" since it still applies currently. Around 10 WAR ahead of the Red Sox. Good hitting, great defense and excellent baserunning.

Their GM acquired players who could supplement others, and their manager followed through using the correct platoons and shifts that the information given to him suggested he do.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 TIL walking 3 guys in 6 innings is something to be applauded. Why do you fools have to make it SO difficult to cheer for particular players on the Bluejays? You're so quiet on guys like Goins, who you were defending vigorously with chest beating and all (turns out you were incredibly wrong - shocker) so quiet on Arencibia and now Sanchez is showing signs of maybe becoming a poor man's Jarred Cosart and you're rubbing it in the face of people who never made a definitive judgment in the first place? NO one said Aaron Sanchez is guaranteed garbage, NO one said that it is impossible he will become a somewhat valuable starting pitcher. They said "all signs point to Sanchez being one of the worst pitchers in baseball" or "Sanchez's past would indicate he's probably not going to continue pitching with a low ERA going forward" and all of those things still hold true. The only people making definitive claims (with heaping amounts of ignorance on the side) are you and your ill-educated ilk. What the f*** is wrong with you? Oh this guy...most of his posts are cheerleading or aping BTS or Nox then he starts to fall apart and call everyone fools when he's got to start thinking for himself. It's funny because those guys only tolerate him because he's such an easy mark for their fantasy pools. Last place out of how many teams? Hahahaha I was about to chime in about how does supporting Sanchez have anything to do with supporting Goins, but then some f***ing guys actually had to take that bait. Sanchez has a potential MLB skill set. Goins would be very marginal at best.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Where is BTS? No sign of him for the last few days Could be, you know, enjoying life. Its almost summer time and lots of people like to go outside, take vacations etc.. That seems unlikely http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/members/25-BTS Total Posts: 8,198 Posts Per Day: 10.73
