TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 If my analogy of the Kenny Williams thing looking like a bad high school break up wasn't clear enough...

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 funny that they referred to us as idiots but we arent allowed to defend ourselves. Yup, I got a nice reply from trying to sign up there. "Dear John-havok, Unfortunately your registration at Orioles Hangout Community did not meet our membership requirements. Therefore your registration was deleted. Sorry, Orioles Hangout Community" So I replied asking what their requirements are since they aren't posted anywhere in the registration process.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I choose to take this literally, since he's at the winter meetings... We have a headless, assless Kenny Williams walking around... One always knows where Kenny's head and ass are, since the former is firmly entrenched in the latter.

flafson Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I found this through the O's forum. http://concorde-us.com/news/pressrel201304.pdf Looks like DD is a fan of Canada. NEW YORK, NEW YORK, April 8, 2013 – The Concorde Group, Inc., an international financial services company, today announced that Mr. Daniel F. Duquette has become an equity investor in Concorde and has agreed to join its Board of Directors. Mr. Duquette will join Concorde’s Board of Directors at the time of the sale of Concorde’s assets to a Canadian company, which will then seek to be listed publicly on the TSX market in Canada, depending on market conditions. Concorde’s banking operations will be moved to Toronto although its current corporate management in New York will continue to run its daily operations. The asset sale and public listing are scheduled to be completed during the third quarter of 2013. Mr. Duquette has been the Executive Vice-President of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles since November 2011, having recently signed a six-year contract extension in January. Mr. Duquette began his career in professional baseball as a scouting assistant with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1980. In 1987, Mr. Duquette became Director of Player Development for the Montreal Expos, and was subsequently promoted to General Manager, acting as such from September 1991 through January 1994. He was General Manager of the Boston Red Sox from 1994 through March 2002. Mr. Duquette was also a founding member of the Israel Baseball League in 2007. He oversaw quick turnarounds during his tenures as GM of the Expos and Red Sox, expanding fan interest in both markets. A native of Dalton, Massachusetts, Mr. Duquette graduated in 1980 from Amherst College, where he was a member of both the varsity baseball and varsity football teams. Dr. Craig A. Zabala, Founder, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Concorde stated, “We are excited to have an individual of Dan’s experience and acumen joining the Board of Directors of Concorde upon our move into Canada. Dan’s unique insight and business perspective will greatly assist Concorde in the development and execution of its merchant banking activities with entrepreneurs and small to mid-size business in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. This capital market segment is where new job growth is accelerated, sorely needed in the U.S. and beyond, and which drives consumption in the general economy.” Mr. Duquette commented “I am pleased to be a Concorde shareholder and look forward to joining the Board of Directors of Concorde as it transitions into the Canadian market, where I spent my early years in Major League Baseball with the Montreal Expos. There is a strong need for direct capital investment in small and mid-size companies that are significantly underserved both in the United States and overseas. I am excited to play an instrumental part of an opportunistic and growing merchant bank that intends to help fill this void with both private equity and debt financing.”
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Lol did anyone know that Beeston once said this? I didn't know if I should believe it, but then I found it for myself here. http://i.gyazo.com/f12c9408b8cf8a5c33bb581fa83d25ba.png Puts that whole "Rogers lost money on the Jays in 2013" claim into perspective.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 ^ I'm not understanding the claim. Is he saying he can fudge the numbers with no one able to tell the difference? Or is he saying he knows how to mismanage a surplus into a deficit? Sorry if I'm being thick; something about the statement is throwing me.

He knows how to write a profit off as a loss, well enough where every national accounting firm would agree with him.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Somebody at Rogers is out to end Beeston era with Blue Jays By Steve Simmons, Toronto Sun TORONTO - The clumsy backstabbing of Paul Beeston reeks of corporate awkwardness and baseball inexperience. It is one hell of a foolish and disrespectful way to treat a man who has given his life to baseball in this city, all of this happening in the backdrop of a most optimistic Blue Jays off-season. This piece of corporate sabotage, performed by an unidentified person or more within the hierarchy of Rogers Communications Inc. — and we haven’t been able to surmise who signed off on this — was an artless end-around to remove Beeston from his position as president of the Blue Jays, and remove him without his knowledge or participation. http://media0.giphy.com/media/Rhhr8D5mKSX7O/giphy.gif
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 That should put a pin in that one for the foreseeable future.
mitchf Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 One year isn't so bad, but I really would've liked to see this organization make the ruthless move and send Beeston into retirement. Regardless, Alex has one year to prove himself and Beeston will be way the hell out of Toronto in 12 months or less.
Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Guess it's pretty safe to say No playoffs = an AA firing after this season.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) The way it should have been last year. Agreed. A fire should have been lit under AA. That was a deppressingly innefective off-season (and yes I realize some bad luck with voided trades played a role). Edited December 9, 2014 by KingKat
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Anyone else think Duquette being the GM of the Orioles while wanting the CEO job of Toronto is a huge conflict of interest? If he knows the Jays want him and he wants to be there and it is only a matter of time then being the GM for a division rival seems like a terrible idea. As the owner I'd be a little concerned.

Reminds me of when the Jays didn't allow Farrell to interview with the BoSox. All that extra year of keeping Farrell around accomplished was straining the relationship.

Why would Rogers fire AA for not doing anything, when it was them holding him back from making any moves? Even at the trade deadline, people from other teams were telling Rosenthal that the Jays are claiming they can't take on any payroll, or trade any great prospects.

You can make moves without increasing payroll. You have to trim some fat and create the financial flexibility you need. To say he was forced into inactivity is just false unless you're claiming that he was instructed that any salary he saved couldn't be re-invested in the payroll which would be pretty draconian.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Yeah I'm not getting into this. Dead horses.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Wonder if they promote AA to fill the position then put Tinnish in at GM. I probably wouldn't do that, but wonder if they would. Anyone think Tinnish might get a shot as a GM on another team anytime soon? Has anyone heard any rumours about there being interest in him? He's an impressive kid.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Wouldn't it be funny if Billy Beane took Beastons job? Considering he turned down a GM role in Boston for a lot more money, I'm pretty sure he simply wants to stay in Oakland.

He's (without good reason) being groomed for the Jays job, which makes me think if anything AA will move to president once Beest is officially out...and it's a new GM they will be looking for.
