  1. Absolutely heartbroken that Jerry's stepping down, but completely understand his reasons why. I will forever cherish the memories of Jerry and Tom Cheek calling the two world series; they were craftsman and I will sorely miss Jerry as I do Tom Cheek.
  2. I just want to formally apologize to everyone on this thread and this board whom I might have offended with my language and overall poor demeanour in the last couple of days. Frankly, I've been rude without good cause and I am sorry. I have asked the moderators to remove my account and I'm heading over to BBB where hopefully I can start fresh with a more relaxed attitude. I hope there are no hard feelings from anyone on here and I wish this board and its posters the best of luck in the future. It's been fun!!
  3. Well, Boras certainly thought so last year. I actually supported signing Drew at the time, but of course it never happened because of budget constraints which many on here also denied existed last season. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/2/26/5449392/stephen-drew-free-agent-rumors-blue-jays Seriously I'm going to stop posting about this. I'm starting to feel like Frank Grimes... http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvaiggy9d21qh59n0o1_500.gif
  4. *sigh* I've forgotten why I even care about this any more. Bravo to you and all those who thanked you for not noticing the 'or equivalent' after the Jed Lowrie in my post. Y'know, as in another major leaguer who could work. Other than Lowrie. Someone who has already played in the majors. Someone who has not been exclusively in Japan over the last decade. Someone who has actually played major league baseba.....f*** it, why bother? Let's just see how it all pans out.
  5. I didn't turn this into a debate about WAR. It was referenced by others and I responded. This whole thread should have been about the merits of signing this Japanese player vs. a more proven major leaguer. I advocated signing Lowrie or an equivalent. This was considered heresy/blasphemy and I was and am being castigated and burned at the stake for it. I couldn't give a s***. My viewpoint is valid and remains valid.
  6. You really need to check with your other WAR friends genius. Even JFAS has admitted that according to modern statistical analysis, this trade should never have happened. Ref. JFAS below: "Carter+Alomar 1989: 5.6 WAR 1990: 1.0 WAR (-2.0 from Carter) Trade 1991: 8.9 WAR 1992: 9.0 WAR 1993: 7.7 WAR Fernandez+McGriff 1989: 10.0 WAR 1990: 10.4 WAR Trade 1991: 6.1 WAR 1992: 7.0 WAR 1993: 7.6 WAR Looks like a pretty bad trade at the time. Obviously hindsight worked out. " Yet I'm the stunnerd? You can't even keep up with the rest of your sheeple/shepherd. Oy. BTW since when did advocating strongly for Lowrie become a badge of being stuck in the past? Incredible imbecility. Honestly, you just couldn't make it up.
  7. A fair reply. I can respond no better than Bob Ryan in this article however: http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2013/03/03/bob-ryan-declares-war-war/ErbD99zVKGfn1XjonlmBBK/story.html
  8. Give up mate. The sheeple have already decided that tortilla is better than anything else we have at 2B and are likely going to get and they find this completely acceptable. They will thus resort to the usual tactics to shut you up. Personally I don't give a flying f*** what any of them think, especially when they resort to puerile name calling and outright obtuseness and imbecility in the vain hope of appearing intelligent, but I will say this: if the deal goes through I'll be watching and comparing and we'll all have a conversation at the end of the season. Unlike many of the goddamn geniuses on here, I have a very long memory.
  9. I can't argue with any of this; good points all. I would hope our budget is sufficient for the latter scenario, but I guess we'll find out. It will really hurt to see Lowrie elsewhere however. We haven't had a reasonable player at 2B since Aaron Hill and that's a long time.
  10. I don't even know what this has to do with anything. Seriously, I really don't. Anyway I'm done with this too. Einstein: "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." Good luck to you Sammy. Keep feeling better about yourself if it helps.
  11. Ok I'm calling time on this one. In the words of Mark Twain “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” I'm done. Do whatever the f*** you want.
  12. Thank you for the first reasonable and intelligent response to me on this issue. I hear what you're saying, but I'm not as confident as some on here that Travis will turn out to be what we might hope for. I remember when Brett Wallace was considered a sure-fire IB for example or Deck Mcguire was considered the 'safe choice' as a guaranteed 3rd or 4th starter. While Travis develops (he hasn't as yet even started in AAA) it would be good to have someone like Lowrie for 2-3 years when we are apparently building a team for the now.
  13. With all due respect, that doesn't sound like it would be too difficult. And I did not say anything about a reliever genius, but bra-f***ing-vo for joining in the chorus. Oh and I couldn't give two shits about what you think or assume I think. I've been supporting the BJ's for over 25 years and remember the last time we won a world series with a pretty good 2B. But heh, who cares right?
  14. Well thank god you came back when you did to call me dumb and then for my account to be deleted when I responded entirely with factual information about this Japanese player. If this signing comes true, it would be an indication that as an organization we have decided that Devon Travis is the answer and that any warm body will do to plug up the gaping hole at 2B in the interim. I respectfully(!) disagree, especially when an excellent, viable option is on the market who can play all positions in the infield and who is not ridiculously expensive in either cash or term.
  15. So just to be clear, you're saying that a 33 year old Japanese player who has apparently been playing for 11 years and had over 5500 at bats is a real "find" and that he trumps anyone else currently on the market, such as a Jed Lowrie? And who here had even heard of this guy until his name emerged in the last 48 hours? And yet we can't make any assumptions about what he might bring to the table over a proven major leaguer? Wow. Just....wow.
  16. Ok, you're all correct. He's the new [fill-in-blank-here]. Good move AA. I stand corrected. http://img.pandawhale.com/post-33707-nothing-to-see-here-gif-please-BeZM.gif
  17. I don't know who this tortilla guy is and I don't f***ing care. There are better options out there right now on the market and the money and contract length for them would not be obscence. $30m for 3 years for Lowrie and we are turning away? ********.
  18. Beginning to think that Boras was right about our ownership. And I f***ing hate Boras. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/boras-rips-blue-jays-five-year-contract-policy/
  19. So Jed Lowrie is not a possibility then? Better to sign an unknown Japanese fill-in for a third of the price of a proven major leaguer. f*** right off. f***. Right. Off. ******** signing if true.
  20. So......this means no Jed Lowrie? f*** off AA; just sign him already FFS.
  21. Hmmmm. Not happy about this at all. http://calltothepen.com/2014/12/08/jed-lowrie-drawing-interest-multiple-clubs/ Miami, Astros and Giants. Willing to play 3B, 2B and SS. Why not us?
  22. http://crooksandliars.com:8080/files/mediaposters/2009/10/10451.jpg?ts=1396405220 PS 'The Chicago Way.'
  23. Heh! Excuse me - wtf? http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--C7m5IZB0--/1950s3pnxedb3jpg.jpg
  24. So to paraphrase Elliot, Beeston is not going and the Blue Jays are not really actively looking for anyone else. On the other hand "Williams told the Chicago Tribune he was denied an opportunity to interview with the Jays, adding that the issue was “not new” and “that ship has sailed.” Que?
