"After days of research, I have come to the conclusion that this year’s data is inconclusive."

It's one year of data, what did he expect to find? And he didn't even add up all the pitchers into a total... just analyzed many microscopic samples lol. What a brutal article.

Dickey should pitch every second day

Discuss

They should actually try to get him as many starts as possible down the stretch. He's been pitching quite well.

Swing for the fences and try to get within 2 games by the Mariners series.

The only guy i would skip in the rotation is Happ. Everyone has been pitching pretty well lately.

Who comes out of the rotation and what do you tell them?

Hutch still makes me nervous sometimes. He's the only other one you'd even think about skipping and he's such a competitor he'd be pretty pissed.

You know, Hutch's inconsistency is reminding me a lot of Morrow in his years that he didn't get hurt much. Complete game shutouts followed by horrendous starts and massive pitch counts by the 5th inning.

He's a lot more consistent if you look at DIPS stats like xFIP (http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=10732&position=P). All pitchers are, since DIPS better represents the player's talent level.

Hutch is having a very encouraging season. This has been a great year for the Blue Jays from a pitcher development standpoint.

Yeah I'm sure you're right

I'm just happy he has been able to pitch a full season and is showing high end capability. Some days the stuff/location just isn't great but as you say that's true for all pitchers to some degree. And in his case he's still relearning his arm after TJS.

And Stroman Sanchez Graveman Norris? Getouttahere, it's incredible how they've progressed.

I wonder if Dickey could pitch every 4th day. I think his arm could do it but he is almost 40 and his legs are a big part of his delivery.

Dickey relies too much on velocity to be effective on short rest. Unlike say Tim Wakefield, his success insn't rooted in the slow knuckler. Developping the fast knuckler is what allowed him to have dominant stretches.

I guess we found another thing Mike Wilner is terrible at.

The thing that's ridiculous is that most people in Wilner's position defer to those who are better at evaluating data. He could have just reffered to better research done elsewhere but that would mean coming to terms with his own ignorance and he steadfastly refuses to acknowledge that there are people more knowledgable about baseball than him. He'd rather make an ass of himself repeatedly than let go of any of his arrogance.

Hutchison has thrown way too many innings this season for someone coming off TJ. The fact that they haven't shut him down already, especially since they are already conceding games by starting Pillar and Valencia against RHP, is concerning.

How does mike wilner still have a job? He talks down to his callers and is ignorant .... is he a yank?

Probably because they get good ratings. Its like Bob Mccown, he had to change his personality on radio to get better ratings. Im sure Wilner is actually a great person to be around in everyday life but just puts on a different voice for his role at SN.

Interesting comparison. I used to listen to both religiously and now I can't stand either. The only time I listen to Bobcat is when someone on here posts that AA will be on or something like that.

In Wilner's defense, while his analysis was completely lacking, it was literate. Essentially, it was the opposite of JFaS's article on the Dickey Effect. Perhaps Wilner could sit down with JFaS, JFaS could explain his process, and Wilner could present it in a coherent manner (Bill James would be an obvious better choice, but ... just saying ...).

You always gotta to be the antagonist don't you?

What exactly would be the motivation for JFaS to do all the work, then give it to Wilner so he can slap his name on it and take the credit?

I will give Wilner credit for at least trying, even if it demonstrates why people with no knowledge in a field shouldn't try to do research in it.
