Cool. I don't really give a poo about anyone's personal business on this site ... nor the goings-on of all the board soap opera s*** that has somewhat apparently carried over on to this board ... but I just remember reading some nonsense on this board that you went under a different name on the former board, and some complete douche bag from the board ended up getting you fired from some kind of mall or store security guard job. I had assumed that didn't happen 20 years ago, but who knows what in all of that was lost in translation.

Needless to say, I don't view you as one of the strong and fortunate. That's the takeaway here.

You know very little about me.

And maybe in your world I'm not fortunate, but I damn well ain't hurting for money or worrying about my well-being when out and about.

As for strong, I've seen you get bent on Hitler comments....hopefully that's not a personal nerve. It's been what 70 years....get over it.

I'm not sure why everyone is giving Wilner a hard time with this. Obviously what he wrote can and has been better articulated by those with a stronger numerical background, but he posted his article knowing exactly who his audience is. I think the intent of his article was to get people thinking about a concept rather than arriving at a fact-based conclusion about said concept.

Compared to his let's-multiply-everyone's-numbers-by-four piece at the quarter mark of the season, this article is pure gold.

A guy who worked for the same company that Wilner currently works for put out a fantastic article regarding this exact same topic and Wilner basically steals his idea without any reference or credit.

This is a hackjob and he needs to be called out for it.

This has been covered ad nauseum on this board.

I'm kind of a big deal. And I have many leather-bound books.

I've read this board for years and I have no idea what you do... never met anybody who was a big deal that had to announce they were a big deal... Where can I get your book?? Is it better than John Lott's?? I wonder if Mike Wilner will write a book someday.

Seriously though where can we get your book??

I personally can't understand why you don't like to be around people in the real world (or, actually, it's that people don't like to be around you).

I've mentioned multiple times that I'm an introvert. I've been that way as far back as 5 years old (that I can remember). And if people don't wanna be around me, that's cool as well.

Apparently, the strong and fortunate believe that finding a suggestion that Jews should have been exterminated offensive, is somehow letting his kids grow up in a sheltered environment.

How is it offensive? It was an atrocity that happened. I don't understand the need to hide it or try and sweep it from memory. If you're shielding your kids from the bad that happens in society, its sheltering.

No one buys the cool guy act from the antisocial dude, who is hurting so much inside that he covers it up with false bravado ... which includes being too awesome to care if s*** offends anyone (no one got time for dat, right?)

I'm not hurting from anything. As I said, I'm an introvert and pretty much keep to myself in social environments. But if someone ticks me off, I don't mind voicing my opinion or acting out, I don't care about the situation or person. Others feelings mean very little to me.

You're having a different conversation than I'm having. No one is shielding anyone from the Holocaust. Refusing to find acceptable a statement that you believe the Jews should have been exterminated is not shielding anyone from the Holocaust.

Where did I say that?

So you're extroverted when it comes to being hateful.

I don't see why that bothers you. Because if it doesn't bother you, you may as well shut up about it, because it isn't going to change me.

And you lack judgment in when and how to voice your displeasure, and as to what is meaningful to get upset about.

Maybe its because I don't have any ties to what happened in WW2 and really don't care. It's something that happened a long time ago. And me not caring about what happened doesn't mean you can put statements on here that I'm glad something happened.

Yeah, strong. That's not introversion ... That's maladjustment. Voice displeasure over Jews not being exterminated? Sheltering and a sign of weakness. Go batshit crazy because someone doesn't know as much about baseball as you think you do? Strong.

Keep sticking up for the little guy, champ.

I really wish you'd talk about baseball and never post a personal opinion about anything.

Uh, dude. It's a couple of lines from Anchorman where he attempts to brag about himself.

Ron Burgundy: I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

Veronica Corningstone: Really.

Ron Burgundy: People know me.

Veronica Corningstone: Well, I'm very happy for you.

Ron Burgundy: I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

But if you're looking for my prose ... uh, yeah, I've contributed to some securitization treatises that you would find riveting. Written some contributions for regulatory and investor filings. So, maybe you've seen my work. Truly poetic.

Ex-attorney (Tax, M&A work) ... still licensed in a jurisdiction but not practicing, now an exec with an alt invest shop. Many impressive initials behind my name.

Blah, blah, blah

And I do own many leather bound books.

Missed the reference... You sound like a suit though... no offense. Suits are like anybody else good ones and bad ones. Problem is bad suits can do a lot of damage. Generally I found lawyer suits to be a bit better then pure "MBA" suits...

There seems to be some pecking order I don't totally understand. When an MBA suit wants to pull distasteful s*** they always say "we'll talk to the lawyers about that". But the lawyers never really appear. They just take advantage of the MBA suit in the background. somehow.

Engineer - "We have a lot of competition."

MBA suit - "If we patented the internet we'd have a total monopoly, why don't we buy the patent from Al Gore?? Let's talk to the Lawyers about it."

Engineer - groan... to himself (he's not really stupid enough to talk to a lawyer about that... is he??)

Lawyer suit - "Interesting idea... I'll look it over, it will take me week at $350 an hour..."

1 week later

Lawyer suit - "Gore doesn't really own the patent..."

MBA suit - "Thanks for your help, it was worth a try, send your invoice to my secretary..."

Ah, yes, this is what's known as "delusions of other's incompetence" by the little people, evidenced by utilization of snarky terms of reference, such as "suits." Also known as constructive penis envy. Resulting, often times, from a feigned sense of self worth and superiority from completing the Lego Death Star as a child, and believing the other kids didn't do it because they don't know how.

Exec: "Yeah, so ... and what about this $5 budget estimate?"

Lego builder: "We just tell them that. Then, when it costs $5,000,000, we just say 'overrun.'"

Lawyer: "Hmmm, I'm going to have to verify, but I'm pretty sure that's not allowed under statute."

Lego builder: "Oh, big suit guy, not wearing a suit because most businesses be business casual nowadays! Coming in here talk talk about statues. I know how make statues. Me take calculus."

Lawyer: "Statute, not stat ... you know what, just forget it ... "

Exec: "Yeah, just leave the paperwork here with me. We'll get back to you on this. You don't happen to have any sharp objects on you, do you?"

The dynamic I've seen more often is the suit asks multiple lego builders how much things will cost... the idiot lego builder (as in your example) is the one that the idiot suit gives a promotion too. If you promise things will be under budget you get the contract/job/promotion then worry about reality later.

Just a generalization of course.

Lego builder: "You stupid. Me take calculus. Me know."

Exec: "Uh, I'm pretty sure we all took calculus."

Lego builder: "Me take calculus for engineers. It be way harder. Non-engineer majors be stupid."

Engineers usually take four calculus courses. A harder version of calculus 1 (which is what you may have took), calculus 2, calculus 3 (ussually a multivariable calculus), and differential equations. That's just an ordinary engineer. There is all kinds of crazy s*** you can take after that.

There is no comparison between taking a 1st year introduction to calculus and the multiple rigorous calculus courses an engineer, math major or physics major would take.

Posted
I make an over-the-top mocking post highlighting the "typical" engineer, and then Olerud actually over-the-tops my over-the-topness, except he's just being himself!

"Me take calculus!"

Sure I'm just being myself...

I've taken four calculus courses... I'm sure tonnes of other guys on this board who are engineers or physics guys or whatever have too...

If some idiot wants to claim that their 1st year "jr" calculus course is the same thing... then I'll call them out.

It's kind of like Wilner claiming his analysis is exactly the same as JFas's....

Would you have us just calmly say Wilner=JFAS because they've both written articles on the Dickey Effect???

An engineer talking about his education is known as the "Little Dickey Effect."

P.S. Not that it's relevant to the point I made, and the point you're making for me, sadly enough, but most people who have achieved the level of an executive in a business setting (especially one in which they interact with engineers on a regular basis), have taken a numerous higher level courses in mathematics beyond "1st year jr calculus" courses.

But that you're attempting this line of discussion is making me literally laugh out loud.

Moogy my friend, you are the one who brought up education. Not me. I just mentioned that MBAs are so f***ing stupid they don't realize that you can't patent the internet. I actually was complimentary to Lawyers... which I thought you said you were (I can't keep it all straight)... so this entire thing is kind of crazy.

Moogy's pecking order...

1. Execs

2. Lawyers??

3. Mall cops

4. Engineers??

My Pecking order

1. Mall cops/security guys

2. Engineers

3. Lawyers

4. Execs

My uncle worked at Kingston Pen... hard core stuff... and I respect anybody who does that kind of work, even if it's in a shopping mall... keeps us safe... ...wouldn't want to be Moogy walking through the streets, or the mall without any security on the look out...

I sort of hope that Moogy turns out to be the Dogg and he has just been blasting us all with master level trolling this whole time.

I'm pretty sure Moogy is one of Ju1ced's alter egos (yes the admin).

Christ, you've been lurking for quite a while lol

Posted
Haha. I've been around. But think about it. Ju1ced was like the middle-school bully on the old board. Nobody cleans-up that much.

I was going to say the same. I remember juice as more of a street fighter... as opposed to the elitist Moogie... maybe they work together... kind of like Gus and Mike in breaking bad.

Posted
Well there's no real way to know so we'll just say

Moogy = Juiced

Juiced = Dogg

Dogg = Everybody

This entire board = Dogg

Planet earth = Dogg

You trashed MBAs with something silly and non-substantive ...

(blah, blah, blah)

And somehow, I'm the bad guy.

And then, you get totally confused about what I'm saying and think I'm really bragging about having leather bound books, and end up mocking something you know nothing about, apparently ... And I mock you right back, and you actually prove out that my mocking was on point.

All in all ... A good time was had by all.

So in your world...

Moogie- All calculus courses are the same!!! Everybody took calculus and it is all the same. Moogie out.

Engineer- I took 5 undergraduate calculus courses, and 3 graduate level calculus courses. Moogie took 2 calculus courses... but they were actually the same course he just failed the first time. Mr. Moogie may I respectfully point out that our Calculus experience is not the same??

Moogie- No you may not. If you try to make that point, in return I will point out that you have a personality disorder.

This board could all breathe a sigh of relief if it turned out Moogy was Paul Beeston.

That would be awesome actually. He could then be crowned King Troll.
