ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Oliver should almost never face a RH in a tight spot. The guy is throwing 86-87 now. Terrifying. I had a bit of a problem with him facing the righty there, but the guy is a bad hitter. They seemed to throw the same pitch twice, once for a called strike and the 2nd for a rocket into the lf stands. Overall, I wasn't too upset because if you give up 2 runs in a game, you shouldn't complain.

Hawkguy Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Never use ERA for a reliever bro (Small sample size) Janssen 2.19 ERA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Delabar 1.75 ERA Oliver is more valuable on the team than trading for a few dollars. Janssen has been pretty mediocre outside of his save situations (and one of my favourite players). There's a huge difference between comparing a reliever and a closer too. A closer, you're obviously going to look at S/SO first - that's usually the most telling stat. For relievers, ERA isn't a bad stat but it's not as good as say RRA mixed with IRS%, but those stats are hard as hell to find.
DH12 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Oliver can't be trusted in a one run game

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 IRS% and LOB% are different. LOB counts runners that the pitcher put on themselves. Starting pitchers have a LOB% too. Ah, makes sense, but they're not all that different. Same concept, that is. I can see how that would be tough to find though.

Wang looks like he has been AA's """Strike lightning in a bottle """" Winning gets contagious and right now the Jays have it hard . Again nice while it carries on but we can't win them all .Jays just need to keep taking it one game at a time and try and win every series . Now that we have won the first two go for the sweep
Hawkguy Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 May I ask what the f*** those stats are? And f*** saves lol. Saves, like every stat, don't tell the whole story. But they are still a good indicator of if a closer is getting the job done. To get the whole story you obviously need to check other stats and watch game video. RRA (Relief Run Average), IRS% (Inherited Runners scored % or Inherited runners stranded %, which is basically the same as IRA-Inherited Runs Allowed), and then you can go as deep as a whether the pitcher is a ground ball pitcher a fly ball type guy (as well as what hand they are) to see what fits your needs. Relief Run Average A pitching statistic used in baseball that measures a relief pitcher's ability to keep inherited runners from scoring once they enter the game. Any runner already on base when a relief pitcher enters is considered an inherited runner, and R.R.A. takes into account how many outs there are and where the runners are located. IRS% is a stat in OOTP games. Very useful, but again, doesn't tell the whole story. "inherited runs stranded" isn't hard to find. It's LOB%, and it's on fangraphs. So I dunno what OP is talking about with that. LOB% includes runners the pitcher put on. Who cares if a relief pitcher gives up a walk every time he comes out if he inherits two other runners and never gives up a run. His LOB% is going to be 3 players, while IRS% will only be 2 players (or 0% if you're using it as scored instead of stranded which I've seen done before). EDIT: Just saw someone else explained that. My bad.

My bad. You play OOTP? Always wondered how that was. If you combined the gameplay of The Show with everything else from OOTP I'd be in heaven. Not bad stats.. but I do like WPA more. Why not just use WPA? Cecil (1.80) and Janssen (1.77) are 12th and 13th in baseball in reliever WPA. Edward Mujica crushing everyone at 3.17. Mujica is on my fantasy team! My team is so amazing! Go me! Yeah, that's how you sound all the time

Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I hope there is a brawl late in the game after we have taken a commanding lead... Bring in our worst reliever and have him clunk Davis in the head, I like.
itsawrap Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I don't think anything's gonna happen. Buck Showalter said after the game he's seeing it as just two competitive players jawing at each other, one getting the best of the other and vice versa in both appearances. If something happens tomorrow, I doubt it's gonna be at their manager's discretion. We shall see.

Bring in our worst reliever and have him clunk Davis in the head, I like. f*** off asshead. Hitting a player on purpose is one thing, it can (sometimes) be a message. Hitting a player in the head is never okay. Also, we have no bad relievers. Aside: I was reading orioleshangout.com's forums just now and the cognitive dissonance there is HILARIOUS. "Bautista and Encarnacion must be on steroids, it's the only way the could have turned it around like that" completely ignoring the improbable turn around of Chris Davis. Also, the implication that the umpires were in our favour this series was pretty funny too. The umpires have been uniformly terrible for both teams, and all season (and likely throughout history.)
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Baseball brawls don't cause injuries... Well unless you're made out glass With the amount of injuries the Jays have sustained this year I would say maybe they are made out of glass. Anyway, memories of Greinke's injury is still fresh in my mind so I would prefer if they do not get into any brawl. Can you even imagine how negatively this team's performance would be affected if Lind or Encarnacion to name a few key players got injured cuz of a stupid brawl?

The best thing about all their "theories" about our team is that they can be directly pointed right back at them. IE: the Jays are lucky (see 2012 Orioles), JB and Edwin are on something because of their turnaround (see Chris Davis), etc.
