Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Perez is definitely the guy to send down but he doesn't have options so I don't know. I wonder if McGowan would clear waivers, if AA thinks he will then they should do that. Most believed that Perez is great lol Perez is the shortest straw, DFA him ASAP.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Wilner thinks Darren Oliver is more valuable than Kawsaki? wtf Has more trade value, probably...
LightsOut Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 you guys gotta realize wilner is talking about kawasakis body of work(not just this season), being an above average ss for not even a half a season doesn't make him more valuable than a vet bullpen arm in oliver
Slot Machine Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I'll be at the game tomorrow, its gonna be awesome.
DickeyJohnsonWang Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I love Kawasaki as much as the next guy but the Oliver hate is pretty reactionary today, he made one mistake to a f***ing .097 hitting backup catcher , and promptly finished the inning after picking off Mcclouth who hit a dribbler and painted the corner against Machado.

The walks are up and the Ks are down, he's lucky he isn't hit harder
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Just came back from the game crowd was electric, especially after Bau's homer Kawasaki's deep fouls made everyone freak out. Jannsen destroying Davis was golden
Hawkguy Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Wilner only knows OPS. If a guy (especially one with decent speed) posts a .200 average but a ~.350 OBP ... there's absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. I hate when people overlook the simple things.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Most believed that Perez is great lol Perez is the shortest straw, DFA him ASAP. Perez has some dirty stuff.
bzapple Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 ..... The walks are up and the Ks are down, he's lucky he isn't hit harder Numbers skewed by a terrible April and still his xFIP is only at 4, and he's only pitched 21 innings, so I expect he'll continue to improve. This reminds me of the Buehrle hate earlier in the season. When a guy has been as consistent as Oliver year to year, you should at least give him a chance to right himself before you start bashing him.

Hawkguy Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Perez has some dirty stuff. Yes he does. It's honestly a tough decision. The easiest moves are Kawasaki, Loup or Wagner to the minors. But in reality, none of them deserve to be there. They are all playing GOOD Major League baseball right now. Loup and Wagner have an ERA well under 2 (combined) over nearly 50 innings. Wagner is at like 0.82 ERA over 11 innings while Loup is at like 1.23 ERA over his last 22 innings (2.00 ERA total over 36 innings). Kawasaki has a better OBP% than everyone on the team outside of Lind and Encarnacion. Yes, his OBP% is better than Jose Bautista. Your other options are Perez, who has been good - although he is pitching the least of any pitcher right now, McGowan, and Bonifacio who are all out of options. It's a tough choice. Personally, I'd try to trade Oliver - see what the market is. It's not even overlooking, that's giving Wilner credit. It's cherrypicking. That's true. I'm a big baseball fan, but I don't read much from Wilner. I always heard he was good - but reading that makes me scratch my head.

Dr Negative Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Just get rid of Perez. He is clearly the last man in the bullpen right now and has done absolutely nothing in his career to make us think that this is sustainable.

He is clearly the last man in the bullpen right now and has done absolutely nothing in his career to make us think that this is sustainable. Poor asset management IMO. It's only been 10 innings in the bigs for Perez.. but he looks like that kind of guy who can go on a crazy hot streak for a while. Eventually he'll go full gas-can and blow up... but ride the hot arm until he falls apart. I'm not a huge fan of Loup.. but he is fairly talented. He's only thrown SIX innings so far in June. He's clearly fallen out of favour as the go-to LH.... Send him down and let him face RH and LH on a consistent basis. He'd be a nice boost in September once the other guys fatigue.

Agreed, it really isn't a big loss if he gets picked up by another team. I expect he'll get torched sometime in the next couple weeks, in which case he's going to be DFA'd anyway by our reactionary GM, so they might as well just do it now.

Hawkguy Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Relievers ERA?...... Trade Oliver for nothing? This is madness Yes, because that's what I said. Yes, I used ERA - I'm new here and I don't know how in-depth this forum is. ERA doesn't tell everything but it still tells a story. As for trading Oliver for nothing - I said that no where. I said I'd see what the market is. I didn't say I'd trade him for nothing. If a contender is looking for a reliable bullpen arm that has a struggling pen, maybe we could get something of value. A "overpayment" considering his future with the Jays isn't going to last past this year, IMO.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 The main problem is carrying four bad infielders seems pointless Maicer is starting to really play some fantastic ball. He's such much better than the -1.2 WAR he's compiled so far this year. Over a full season, Kawasaki is on pace for 2.2 WAR.... For a guy with almost zero power to speak of... that is pretty damn good. DeRosa has an .852 OPS vs LHP this year! Boni f***ing sucks... but holds some value as a pinch runner and occasional spot starter. Gibby knows how to put guys in the right spots to get the most out of them. I have no doubt that he'll continue to maximize the minimal skill sets that these guys posses down the stretch.

Never use ERA for a reliever bro (Small sample size) Janssen 2.19 ERA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Delabar 1.75 ERA Oliver is more valuable on the team than trading for a few dollars.

The fact that Lawrie is out also means that Gibbons will have to continue to mix and match at 2b and 3b although, I believe Kawasaki would play good defense and with his OBP and his ability to make pitchers work, I'd use Bonifacio strictly as a PR late in games when tied or behind by a run.

Oliver should almost never face a RH in a tight spot. The guy is throwing 86-87 now. Terrifying.
