Arkadium Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Travis goes yard for HR numero uno! On pace for 4-5 HR this year... boy did Toronto ever screw this kid up.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Wish we still had him...hitting for avg and still has power. He hit the ball out of pirates stadium, that was a blast!
Arkadium Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 Wish we still had him...hitting for avg and still has power. He hit the ball out of pirates stadium, that was a blast! He does have tremendous raw power but it's been dormant, I blame Toronto (Cito / AA / Ritardi).
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I blame Travis Snider. Other people might have f***ed him up, sure, but even if that's true, he still let him. Accountability. The likeliest case is that he just didn't ever have the skill set to succeed, anyway.
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Wish we still had him...hitting for avg and still has power. He hit the ball out of pirates stadium, that was a blast! Yes, he would be the answer to all the jays problems.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 It's time to let this go. Well it's an off day so not much else to do.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Snider did hit 14HR one year in 80 games with the Jays. I won't forget his 2 HR's at Twins stadium in early April 2009 or 2010. Jays gave Corey Patterson & Fred Lewis more playing time than their top prospects Snider.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Oh God. Mods, please please do not allow this thread to continue. Snider is ancient history who will be nothing more than an average to below average platoon player. Hard to believe there are still people here who have a hard on for this guy.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 Snider sucks. /thread Neg, he doesn't suck. He's not especially good yet either.
crrr Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 It would be really sad if threads such as the first Snider thread were deleted
HASHTAGYOLOSWAG Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 The people who are saying "Snider sukz!!" are the same people who are crying when we traded him. Just because he's not on our team and you don't get to see his play everyday doesn't mean he sucks. I liked Snider and I wish him all the best, he's definitely playing better with his changed scenery.
BluejayEd Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 It was unfortunate how everything went down in regards to how the organization treated him but with that said he hasn't really much for a while now.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 As much as I actually contributed to the Snider thread on the old board, I really didn't want one here. Time to let go.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 That said I had planned in starting a general "departed prospects" tracking thread.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'm very thankful we traded semi useful Travis Snider for world killer Brad Lincoln
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 At least he's better than Brett Wallace. That's something to hang your hat on.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Snider sucks. /thread Amazing that people still complain about Snider's power when we have a .279 .316 .364 left fielder with one homer. But... But... Melky has a sweet swing with line drives while Snider is fat... Melky is fat to if you didn't notice. Right now the Snider move(s) are a negative. Lincoln 0-1 6.something era Snider .290 .360 .400 (aproximate) Melky .280 .316 .360 (aprosimate) This stuff can change quickly. But right now a Snider/Sierra platoon and spending the 16 million on something else would look good. Pulling for Snider, but also pulling for Melky. Hopefully they both look good in a few weeks. And hopefully Lincoln provides some value.

One is a quality major league bat (border-line all star), the other will be out of baseball in 18 months. Melky's stats and the end of the year will be much better than Snider's and if you can't see that by now then may god have mercy on your soul.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'd take that OBP any day and the power might be coming. I still think it was a mistake to trade him but there's enough talent on the team right now for it to not be a big deal.

Take away Melky's '12 and their career stat lines are basically the same. I also presume Melky starting taking PED's in '11... so you should probably take that out of the equation too, in which case Snider is an overall BETTER offensive player than Melky. And imagine if he had the opportunity to play everyday. Plus we already know Snider will provide better defense. So how the f*** can't you compare them?

The sad thing about this is posters like Dinger will use this 1.5 months of success to feed some strange argument based on almost no sample that he will 'almost certainly be an all-star'. It's too bad really.
Nox Verified Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Snider's can't really be considered anything special right now but he could still be a useful MLB piece (like a Hinske or something just to throw a fat, white guy, ex LH Blue Jay comp out there). Brad Lincoln is probably just a RHR s*** bag.

Brad Lincoln is probably just a RHR s*** bag. More or less true. But a lot of players suffer because they don't get the chance to play everyday... I'm sure you could come up with a wealth of players who turned from mediocre to good or great players after getting the opportunity to play everyday (i.e. Bautista).

Melky's stats and the end of the year will be much better than Snider's and if you can't see that by now then may god have mercy on your soul. When I see a comment like this I always start by explaining where dogs come from. If you get a dog, you can have a little less risk if you get one all grown up (Especially a rescue dog where you don't know the parents and you can see how big, and what kind of temperment it will end up with). But it was still once a puppy and came from somewhere. Baseball players are the same. OK. This is actually an interesting comparison. Snider and Melky both came up at 20... both were traded by their organization at around age 24. It is actually very interesting to compare them age by age. Let's look at plate appearances, and the triple slash stats. 20 M - 19 .211 .211 .211 .421 20 S - 80 .301 .338 .466 .803 21 M - 524 .280 .360 .391 .752 21 S - 276 .241 .328 .419 .748 22 M - 612 .273 .327 .391 .718 22 S - 319 .255 .304 .463 .767 23 M - 453 .249 .301 .341 .641 23 S - 202 .225 .269 .348 .616 24 M - 540 .274 .336 .416 .752 24 S - 185 .250 .319 .378 .697 25 M - 509 .255 .317 .354 .671 25 S - 107 .292 .364 .406 .771 ** (not complete yet) Some interesting stats. Snider is actually ahead in terms of OPS if you compare him to Melky through age 25. Melky has always been given more at bats. One still wonders what Snider could do with 500 plate appearances. Even with Melky's BIG years at age 26 and 27 their life time OPS is actually still quite similiar Melky life time .284 .337 .412 .749 Snider life time .252 .314 .415 .735 So our border line all star barely has an OPS higher than a waste of time fatty who will be released in 18 months?? That's not much of a border line all star... especially considering all his good work was done under the specter of steroids. Edited May 17, 2013 by Olerud363

You do realize that if Snider is to get released by the Pirates he will be following in Melky's footsteps EXACTLY. Your hero Melky got released by the Atlanta Braves after being given a second chance with them, at the same age Snider is getting a second chance with the pirates. It wasn't until his third chance with KC that Melky finally had a real good season (apparently with a little help).
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 That is an hysterical statement. Travis Snider has shown zero consistency in his career. Unlike the consistency shown by Melky. 2010 Melky OPS .671 2011 Melky OPS .809 2012 Melky OPS .906 2013 Melky OPS .680 I guess looking at it Melky does consistently show a about a .200 point difference in OPS between proven roid seasons and seasons where he (presumably) isn't on roids. Very consistent player.
