  1. Which decades? During my lifetime which is similar to the Blue Jays lifetime it would be easier to report on the Red Sox losing seasons because their winning season have been many and most https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BOS/index.shtml. They had losing seasons in 83, 92, 93, 94, 97, 12, 14, 15, 20, 22, 23. That is 50 years. That is 39 winning 11 losing by my count. They have have 5 American League Championships and 4 rings in that time. 86 was a legendary year a pitch away from a ring. The Blue Jays greatest is Tony Fernandez, or Carlos Delgado, or maybe Jose Bautista all with around 36 WAR. They would beat (and just beat) Xander Bogaertz (35 WAR or so) as a franchise icon. In my lifetime Red Sox fans, in addition to 1986 and the four rings cheered for position players Nomar (41 WAR), Mookie (42 WAR), Jim Rice (somewhat a peer to Barfield and Bell) 49 WAR, Pedroi 51 WAR, Big Papi Ortiz 52 WAR, Dwight Evans (67 WAR) and Boggs (72 WAR). On the pitching side they had Clemens and Pedro who beat out Stieb and Haladay. They also got to cheer on Manny Ramirez good years, though he is just outside their top 20 WAR with 33 (but 65 lifetime or so, so a legend to be sure). It;s the 50th anniversary of the Blue Jays. So to honor it I bring a new stat CJFF (cumulative joy for fans) In 50 years cumulative Joy for fans on a completely made up scale eyeballing great players to watch, competitive seasons, playoff wins and rings. Red Sox - 1578 Blue Jays - 712
  2. Only 58 at bats I think. Plus this is at Dunnedin. Bonilla did this in the even lower level FCL which I assume Sanchez will be sent to shortly if not as we speak. Hopefully he turns it around soon.
  3. On a 5 year time scale Jays are ahead just a bit... Since 2015? Probably about even... though I guess a 108 win season with a ring puts the Red Sox ahead. Since 2000? Red Sox way ahead. Since 1977 (birth of BJs) - Red Sox a bit ahead. Close. If Red Sox win a World Series before Jays do it will be very easy to create "Red Sox 5 rings in 2 generations, Jays 0" narrative, and the Red Sox are a classic franchise while the Jays in there with Arizona. If Jays win a World Series before Red Sox next it will be easy to create a narrative that they are about even.
  4. If after all that it doesn't work out by 2033, or he gets caught using fertility drugs, then he will have to get a real job with Orelvis.
  5. He'll have to report to work at 7:00 in the morning to play in the 10:00 game at the Florida Complex League. After a couple of years there he will come back just like Bonilla and do OK in Dunnedin, on pace to get to Buffalo by 2032 and maybe a cup of coffee like Orelvis (though even Orelvis handled everything great until New Hampshire).
  6. Blue Jays message board franchise rankings for this decade 1. LA Dodgers - give them credit. 3 rings in the 2020s 2. Toronto Blue Jays - Second for Ohtani, Second in the World Series and Second in our franchise Rankings. ... 11. NY Yankees - Solid team every year. ... 29. Colorado Rockies - Can PD turn it around? 30 Boston Red Sox - worst run franchise in history of baseball. Trading Babe Ruth now second worst sports trade in history after Betts trade.
  7. Somewhat ballsy, you are like a random Red Sox get the wild card with 84 wins, and Crochet comes back and a bunch of fluky happens and Red Sox get a ring and Franklin Arrias looks awesome and complete Joy and love and greatness in Boston, away from looking silly. If Arrias hits more homeruns than Vlad and Red Sox win world series or deep playoff run you will be very sad and lose a lot of cred. Risky statement.
  8. Since they traded Mookie Betts they have won 10 games less than the Jays, 1 less playoff appearance. Maybe 7 playoff game wins, vs Jays 10. Good lord. Math - Jays and Red Sox about even since Mookie Betts trade using simple numerics (total wins, playoff appearances, playoff wins). Jays a bit better Blue Jays Message Board - Blue Jays pinnacle of winning culture built around super star Vladimir Arraez Jr for 500 million. Red Sox worse run franchise in baseball.
  9. We had many teams that should have at least had a competitive playoff spot race starting with 95. Talent on the 95 was unreal, with most of the players having several good seasons left (Alomar, White, Olerud, Molitor, Delgao, Green, Shannon Stewart, Gonzlez, David Cone, Pat Hentgen, Al Leiter, Juan Guzman). The story of the 95 Blue Jays is very over-looked. You replay that team with their average 93-98 performance and they are great. Like all-time bizarre under-performance, and some mess up with young players who Cito didn't "trust". Many years like that. Some rough ones to be sure where interbrew didn't support the payroll, but just tonnes of slow starts and under-performance. Like in 2006 they really went all-in and had a bunch of great seasons but somehow scored 800 runs when they should have had 900.
  10. Red Sox fans are just so joyful right now watching their teenage prospects hit. I know quite a few and watch them run to their computers in the morning to check MILB box scores to see how the teenagers did in A. Or how big a game 20 year old Arrias had last night. It's a thrill for them. They love it. Full of hope watching teenagers hit. And the big league team just crawled out of last place only 1.5 games out of WC3. Even that fat guy who nearly had a heart attack is feeling Joy watching the Sox and their minor league teen age stars.
  11. Everyone loves to beat them up. They are less of a mess than the Jays right now arguably. I don't know. Both 16-21 I guess. If you want to go back 5 years Red Sox and Jays are within 10 wins. Red Sox 2 playoff, Jays 3. Jays a World Series appearance. Red Sox an ALCS. Go back 10 years Red Sox way ahead. Go back 30 years Red Sox completely dominate. Go back 50 years Red Sox better (4 rings to 2 both with heartbreaking 7 game WS losses) Board irrationally hates the Red Sox. Great, great organization. Have some good prospects that actually hit. Red Sox Young Players hit .300 .400 .500 as teenagers or 20 - (Arrias, Justin Gonzales) Like their young players actually function. Not hitting 190 with a .320 OPS. Good organization. Board is just talking nonsense when dissing Red Sox.
  12. We won't be facing the Rays though.... Byes NY 106-56, Seattle - 91-71 Wild Card - W2 Texas 90-72 plays at W1 Tampa Bay 104-58 Wild Card - W3 Toronto 79-83 plays at D3 Chicago White Sox 80-82 Who will White Sox pitch?
  13. Seen this show time and time again. What did Goerge W. Bush say fool me once shame on you, fool me twice... shame on you too? I can't remember. No such thing as a hitting prospect until they hit well at full season ball for 6 weeks. No such thing as a pitching prospect ever!
  14. Just seems to me college stats, dominican league stats and scouting don't totally correlate with performance as much as full season stats season to season correlate with each other. Anecdotal but you can look at a guys Dunnedin stats and if you read them right you can predict Vancouver stats and how they will progress. You can look a guys Dominican/College Stats, scouting reports, draft position, and they mean s*** until they prove they hit in Dunnedin for 2 months. Jo Jo Parker does have lots of walks and steals though. Like a 20-25 k/bb or something. I think that is something positive as opposed to guys we''ve seen come through and put up a 3 to 30 bb/k (Bonilla I think at the even lower complex team).
  15. Cursed season. Even this thread isn't updated much as all the minor leagers have their averages crash to .200. In the old days of Bo, and Vlad and Kirk and Moreno and even Biggio bumped 5 times a night with their latest accomplishment.
  16. Random chance you'd expect 20% of the time in a 5 game division to be ahead game 40. In 33 years they've been ahead once... by 1 game. Never had an mind blowing exciting start in the Wild Card era, and almost always dissapointing. Many over-before-it-began years, even when expect to contend. Amazing their attendance has been as good as it has been without any hot starts extending to mid Spring
  17. game 40 2022 - 7 games back game 40 2023 - 6 games back game 40 2024 - 8 games back game 40 2025 - 3 games back (would slump to 8 shortly) game 37 2026 - 9.5 games back
  18. game 40 2017 - 8 games back game 40 2018 - 6.5 games back game 40 2019 - 8 games back game 40 2020 - 5 games back game 40 2021 - 0.5 games back They slumped just after that with some bullpen blowups and got 6 back quickly.
  19. game 40 2011 3 games back game 40 2012 5 games back game 40 2013 9.5 games back (2013 was the year they got Dickey, Reyes, Josh Johnson, Melky, Buerhle... out of it right away lol). game 40 2014 1.5 games back game 40 2015 4.5 games back game 40 2016 6 games back 2015/2016 the legendary ALCS years... still an average of 5 games back mid-May
  20. game 40 2006 - 1 game back It didn't work out but I remember this. 20 years ago. Flower blooming and hope... there was hope! game 40 2007 - 9 games back game 40 2008 - 5.5 games back (Gibby gone soon) game 40 2009 - 3 games AHEAD (ha ha, that season went south real fast and they ended up 30 games back) game 40 2010 - 5 games back.
  21. game 40 2000 - 4.5 games back game 40 2001 - 3.5 games back game 40 2002 - 13.5 games back game 40 2003 - 7.5 games back game 40 2004 - 6.5 games back game 40 2005 - 5.5 games back
  22. Never had the opposite unless you are over 40. game 40 1994 - 7.5 games back game 40 1995 - 9.5 games back game 40 1996 - 6 games back game 40 1997 - 6.5 games back game 40 1998 - 10.5 games back game 40 1999 - 4.0 games back
  23. Scouting report grades Okomato - 70 power - can hit 110 mph 25 degrees to all fields with good spin. Straw - 50 power - much improved after working out with Addison Barger Lenyn Sosa - 45 power - good launch angle but only average exit velocity Luis Arraez - 25 power - great contact rates but at cost of power Vladimir Guerrero Jr - 20 power - and no longer doing the other things well. .300+ average is a fluke.
  24. Hard to see what there is to like about Sosa. Nothing really in the minor league, or major league stats, or the defense to like. Nothing on the Savant page to like except launch angle sweet spot, but it is cancelled out by so many other horrible things. Like worst in game plate discipline and only 50th percentile exit velocity. So he swing at bad pitches, gets in bad counts, then occasionally launches it at 90 mph at a nice angle? Walks - 0 Launched at nice angle at mediocre velocity - a few overall .238 .230 .300 or something (including white sox) on base percentage lower than average Rather lose with Davis Schneider. Or McCadoo. He can have Sosa's 40 man spot.
  25. Sorry about the rant and I love this team, they gave so much joy last October (not November). Just this season, given expectations has been the least joyful in my memory. I mean, to cheer me up I went to check out the Dunedin hitter stats. Not cheerful stuff right now.
