    Why is it weird if he can hit? I think there's way more flexibility/utility to the organization looking out past this year to have someone like Wagner/Rodon have at bats and see what we have. I don't think J.D. is a big enough (or sure enough) short term upgrade to negate that future value to the org.

    Term, during the off-season I predicted the O's rotation would be a dumpster fire this season. I was then roughly tarred and feathered by the Mike Elias FanClub on this board. Over the next year or two, I believe the Mike Elias FanClub may end up reconsidering their claim that the Orioles are The Most Amazing and Well Run Organization of All Time. Soft Mattresses are only the first domino to fall. Mark my words.

    Oh man, I have to say that I was very surprised at the maturity in the field for a 19 year old. He's looking good, the kid has some tantalizing potential for sure.

    Term hit it on the head. He’s a decent writer when he tries and he has put more effort into analytics in recent years. I find two things really annoying: He often squeezes in these social justice political takes and anti-corporate diatribes that I find condescending and off putting. He’s a master at double negatives which I find tiring, (made up example: “I don’t not like what Atkins is doing, but at the same time shouldn’t he not be judged by his teams performance, or lack of?”) where he debates both positions and doesn’t end up taking a firm stance on anything. All that aside, I do think he’s better than a lot of the other jays coverage out there, which may not be saying much.

    Jonn, this is a much better take than your constant “I want to fire him into the sun” drivel. He IS a massive asset in CF and hopefully a 4 WAR season is incoming. The bat can be frustrating at times, but that kid hustles and works. If healthy, he will probably be the most valuable position player on the team aside from Vlad.

    Yeah, I think that's exactly the hope. It's definitely not a perfect comparison, but I still remember Edwin Encarnacion making adjustments later in his career, including being more selective (easier said than done) and adjusting to a shorter and quicker swing that still allowed his ++power to hammer balls over the fence, but dramatically reduced his K rate. Baseball odds say its unlikely to happen for Orelvis, but if he can successfully adjust his approach to improve his K rate/quality of contact.... his power is tantalizing. We can dream.

    Maybe I'm not in tune with "Gen Z", but I just find this sort of social media behaviour by Vladdy to be childish, moronic, and consistent with the lack of character he's show in the past (the list is long). He's shown up to camp fat and out of shape, he's shoulder shrugged after running into outs in the playoffs, and has jogged to first base in must win games. Now all these posters who were condemning him to the independents last year are putting management on blast for not giving him exactly what he wants after two great years sandwiched by two infuriatingly frustrating years. The funny thing is none of us even know what he wants! 500m?! 600m?! But Rogers has the money! There is such a thing as opportunity cost and risk, and quite frankly I'll take Ohtani or Soto for twice whatever money Vlad is worth, every damn day of the week. Let him go to free agency. He better hope he performs this year.

    Rance Mulliniks! One of my first baseball cards (Topps '86 I believe with the free gum). I remember thinking, wow, if Rance can make the bigs, anyone can make the bigs! hahahah! No offense to good ol' Rance! He had some nice seasons in the late 80s.

    You might be splitting hairs on this one. 11th in the MLB last year was 88 wins and a playoff team. FG Depth Charts currently has the Jays 0.4 WAR back of the 9th place team which would put them in the 88-90 win range. I would agree they're no lock for the playoffs though, and I'm still hoping for another meaningful add to the team.

    Frank Catalanatto and Reed Johnson was my favorite outfield platoon of all time. 2006 was a great year to watch those two. I agree that people are sleeping on Wagner, the kid can hit.
