  1. I would also say his anticipation/range seems to have improved a bit this year. I'm not convinced he's "above average", but even playing close to average defense is a meaningful improvement. His sprint speed is similar to past years, except that one year where he showed up plump as f***. I just think he's not running into as many outs as last year. His 26.8 sprint speed is 37th percentile, he just needs to make less mind-numbingly poor decisions to dramatically improve.
  2. Guy we trade Teo for no good. Trade no good. Seriously though, about time they cut Swanson loose. Green is hopefully on borrowed time.
  3. Miguel Cabrera was moved to 1B at the tender age of 25, and played it horribly for about four years before being shuttled back to 3B. It's also been a painful few years of transition for Vladdy (defensively) and he's just now playing the position reasonably. I get your point that Cabrera at least played only below average defense after being moved back to his original position of 3B at age 30. I think he also supports my point about how bad Devers could be at first. Maybe we're not really disagreeing too much. I'm not saying Devers would be 'hopeless' at 1B, just that he'd probably be really bad. I think he'd be better off sticking at 3B if you want him in the field.
  4. I am not a fan of the Guerrero contract, but Devers' (age 28) best two full seasons were a 140 and 134 wRC+. Guerrero (age 26) has a 166 and 165 wRC+. His career wRC+ is only 4 points than Devers' due to his struggles with inconsistency but that's a massive gap in upside and Guerrero seems to finally be settling in at first as a slightly below average to average defender. I think you're right that Devers is a very good, but not elite hitter without a defensive position. I think he's rapidly aging out of a home at 3B and it's awfuly late in the career for him to make a transition to 1B. Boston should be able to afford Devers' bat as a big market team, but I don't think the trade will age as poorly for them as some seem to think.
  5. Yeah, there's definitely more nuance to the situation than "he's a s***** teammate" or "Boston is just a s***** organization". But seriously... Boston is a s***** organization. I'm loving this trade.
  6. Are you an Albertan now? Welcome to Calgary
  7. Yeah man. They should be scoring 7-8 runs every game. What's up wit dat.
  8. Fastball is on super serum, but the kid also has a 96mph slider....and a 92 mph changeup. Does the elbow hold up?
  9. Swanson and Green have to go - they're both washed. As you said, Green's salary is a sunk cost and they need to just eat the mistake of exercising their team option and ride these fresh young arms into the playoffs.
  10. That is an incredible improvement in the walk rate from a 10.8% to 17% BB at age 27. Given his limitations, it would be amazing to see this guy beat the odds and actually stick in the bigs as a platoon/bench bat.
  11. If those other starter arms were in their mid to late 20s, absolutely. Probably smart to handle those elderly arms with oven mitts at this point in the season. Who knows, Francis might surprise us...... But probably not.
  12. I imagine Ross Atkins' erectile dysfunction has improved by an even larger figure.
  13. He's just dominating those poor kids
  14. BTW, thanks Leo for all the work putting together those defensive plays - enjoyed the read and agree that Clement has been sublime in the field this year.
  15. It's kinda crazy we are talking about deserving Jays for the All-Star Game and not focusing on El Capitán. Back in the old days a .316 hitting chubby catcher would be a shoo-in.
  16. He really should have been pulled already. I know it's hard on the bullpen but you had to make a change early in this inning.
