  1. Tony Salamander on a 6 year deal would be nuts. But if the options are Teo for 4 (age 32-35 seasons) or Salamander for 5 (age 30-34), I might take Salamander. He's younger and for a team that is desperate for power, he provides more of it. Plus, he's a switch hitter and Teo is another righty. Teo is a better base runner, but the defense is actually much closer than you think. Salamander beats him in some of the metrics over the years.
  2. I don’t know if we have any good blogs. Most of them are for casuals. I use this board, Twitter and fangraphs and that’s about it.
  3. Probably but add another 100 million onto the offer (essentially blowing away the 10 for 460) and they start sweating.
  4. Last year was a good time too. There was all the guys that signed super late but even upping the offer for Ohtani significantly would have been wise in light of Soto getting 765 mil. In retrospect the Jays should have offered something like 12 years and 560 million. That might have got him over the 10 for 460 the Dodgers offered.
  5. 30- 4 WAR 31- 4 32- 3.5 33- 3 34- 2.5 35- 2 36- 1.5 20.5 Total WAR across 7 years for 252 million. Not sure this way of projecting works for pitchers since the injury risk is higher but that's 12 million per WAR. Seems high but I think that's where we are at these days.
  6. Lol so true Run-of-the-mill free agent OF who projects for 2.5 WAR. "He's a unique player that that we can increase payroll for."
  7. I've got some great news for you my man
  8. Not saying we are going to sign Burnes by any stretch but I'm not sure how much stock we should put into a CamTheRedSoxFan's take on a Bob Nightengale report on something Scott Boras told him.
  9. I'd be down for this. It might not take as much as we think.
  10. They'll also be paying 10 mil to opt out of Stanton's age 38 season and 40 mil to Judge for his age 36 season too.
  11. Wow! Ben Clemens LOVES this trade for us.
  12. Does team building really matter to the degree this board claims it does? Is a 3 WAR player with a defensive profile going to be worse for us than a 2 WAR player with an offensive profile? Plus, Steamer's 3 WAR projection includes him hitting 103 wRC+ but has his defensive value at 4.7. I'm not sure how much Steamer knows about defense but that number has been over 15 the past two years. He's probably over a 4 WAR player if he hits his projections with the stick and his defense holds.
  13. Alonso can play 1B and DH and Vlad can be 3B and 1B. If Vlad plays more 3B I'm going to lie and tell myself that I'm fine with the 550 million dollar extension he's going to sign.
  14. Sounds like it. It was the one scoop the Jays beat writers had this winter.
  15. With Spencer Whorewhizz gone we could add a 1B/DH to the mix. If Alonso costs similar to what Santander does then perhaps he could be an option.
  16. I want no part of Luis (Guaranteed) L. Ortiz (see what I did there?). He sucks Spanky.
  17. Good lord, 3 for 75 for Eovaldi! Clemens predicted 3 for 48.
  18. Hmm do we go with Fangraphs, the most respected baseball website in history? Or Baseball Trade Values, the junk site that people literally laughed at when they tried to charge a subscription fee?
  19. That's a garbage take. They want you to believe that Gimenez's WAR is all fugazi because he's a defensive-minded 2B and teams don't pay for that. Yet Horwitz's WAR is real, because teams pay for platoon 1B? Not buying it.
  20. Yeah I could definitely see them doing that. The next apron is 261. I could see them going over it a little bit.
  21. I assume all you Joc (Pederson) Sniffers (see what I did there?) will love this move as it frees up the DH spot to add a DH with some power instead of Horwitz.
  22. Keith Law's take on the deal: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5985478/2024/12/10/blue-jays-guardians-andres-gimenez-spencer-horwitz/
  23. This is a weird ass trade. I'm having a hard time gauging what everyone is worth. -Horwitz could be a slap hitting DH who is essentially worthless or he could be a 125 wRC+ 1B/DH/occasional 2B who makes peanuts. -Gimenez could be a star player on a reasonable deal or he could be an overpaid defense only type that is probably worth a spot in the lineup, but is a poor fit for a team needing more offense. -Sandlin could be a good middle reliever or he might not even be worth 25-man spot. At least he has options. -Nick Mitchell doesn't appear to be much but a 4th round pick is probably worth something!
