  1. Yeah he's made plenty of big moves. The casuals have short term memories so the idea that Ross can't sign anyone stems from basically two things: 1- Not being able to sign Ohtani or Soto, two guys who were never going to sign here anyway. 2- One mediocre offseason last year. His real problem is player development, but that won't stop the casuals from crying about FA signings. Try being a fan from the post World Series years in the mid 90s until the mid 2010s. Outside of that 2006 offseason, we REALLY couldn't sign anyone.
  2. Past two days I have seen rumors on the Jays being interested in Carlos Estevez, Verdugo, Kenley Jansen, etc. It's just pure comedy at this point I saw Gregor Chisholm comment on this in that the Jays are tight lipped and that most of these rumors are coming from agents. As most of us all thought. (The rest of you actually think the Jays are trying on all of them and striking out.)
  3. Welcome to the site Davy! Do you think Clement is starting material at 3B? Or should the Jays be looking to acquire someone better?
  4. It definitely offended plenty of Blue Jays fans so I can see why it was tagged as sensitive content
  5. I love that you're trying to insult him by using his ERA which has been pretty darn good, both in his career and last season.
  6. MLB's offseason is so long, I have talked myself in and out on all the remaining FAs about 10x over. Currently I am OUT on Santander but I am IN on Bregman. This is subject to change.
  7. Yeah given his age I figured Rooker was closer to FA but he won't be until he's 33! This was his best chance to cash in.
  8. Yep. Sometimes with proven FIP-beaters you want to use RA-9 or something which is pure ERA based. Quintana has been a FIP beater for 3 years now but I'm not sure that means much.
  9. Every man's goal in life should be to find himself a woman that loves him as much as the Reds loving acquiring infielders Just dumped India to help clear the logjam only to turn around and trade for another 2B
  10. I want a transaction bad but the market has definitely cooled. Hopefully all of this patience pays off. Still some good players out there.
  11. Not surprised. Fans were always clamoring to get him back but once you trade a player in this manner it doesn't seem like they ever come back. For one, the team is generally down on the player compared to the market (hence the trade). Second, the player is understandably going to harbor some feelings for getting dealt. The major exception is when soon to be FAs are traded at the deadline. The situation is more understandable for both sides. Rickey Henderson re-signed with the A's after he got traded here, Yimi just signed with us, etc.
  12. If I was a FA I'd almost want the team to have a s***** farm system. Imagine your Tony Taters and a stacked farm pushes you out of the field and into a full-time DH role. You're also no longer batting cleanup, you're hitting 6th. Had a down year? Too bad you're now on a short side platoon with the 24 year old bat from AAA to end the last couple of years on your deal. You now miss all of your performance bonuses and your next contract is worse. But at least he got to play with some stellar young talent!
  13. I don't mind having Around Baseball in its own separate forum. I kind of like it because you don't have to follow along with a megathread, each piece of news can be posted and commented on individually. I would definitely combine the Minor League thread with the MLB Draft forum though. Not enough distinction between the two.
  14. I don't doubt that FAs have brought up the farm system, but I have a hard time believing that they truly care. What they care about is: 1. The money 2. What their wife thinks The rest of it is all leverage to get more money. "Hey, your farm system sucks and I want to win long term. You're going to have to up your offer to get me to play there." And it's not just prospects. They'll use whatever they can. "I don't want to live in Canada." "Your taxes are too high." "I want to play on the west coast."
  15. This will be fun. We've done this before so it should be right up our alley.
  16. If the Orioles GM is tired of them pinching pennies he'd probably be worth talking to. But as for assistant GMs I'm not sure who I would pick. I don't really follow them much and it's hard to know what they are responsible for anyway.
  17. New ownership is just as cheap as old ownership. Their refusal to supplement the young and cheap core they have is pathetic.
