    Definitely an odd choice to move Bregman off of 3B (3B defense is perhaps his calling card) while paying him 40 mil! Not to mention the top prospect he’s blocking now If the Red Sox were finally going to spend I like to see them using up resources on a move like this

    Lol I love the cherry picking here to show Bregman’s age 23 to 25 seasons If he signed this deal entering his age 26 season I would get it. But it was the 2010s when these seasons happened- we’ve had two presidential elections, a pandemic and 7 SEASONS of baseball since. What Bregman did a decade ago has almost no correlation with Vlad

    Wow 40 mil a year with opt outs. seems like he ended up doing pretty well after all compared to the 6 for 156 offer that the Astros reportedly offered him

    People are definitely sleeping on Wagner. In AAA last year, he had a 16.6% walk rate compared to a 10.4% K rate. That's kind of insane. His batted ball data looks fairly strong as well. The lack of power seemingly comes from a low launch angle is all. He should be a pretty good hitter in the mold of Frank Catalanatto though he can play more infield.

    The guys we've got are probably better. Jimenez projects a lot better than both, for example.

    I hear ya. We project for something like 82-86 wins so we need to improve somewhere. But I think rolling with close to what we've got makes sense. If we are in it at the deadline we can make a deal then.

    I agree that acquiring a "big bat" is needed, but the big bat needs to be pretty damn good to make it worth our while. Taters in LF and Wagner at DH who projects for a 118 wRC+. Taters at DH and use one of these guys for LF: Roden projects for a 109 wRC+, Lukes 104, Barger 103. All of the above mentioned names bat left-handed so Schneider (104 projection) makes for a decent platoon partner. JD Martinez (101 projection) probably isn't a big enough bat. I'm not even sure that Luis Robert (104 projection) is worth it.

    That one is obvious and is discussed daily Old, expensive and no farm on top of a mid-80s win projection with their best players headed for FA

    The other teams taking a step back helps us as much as anything -Yanks can make as many moves as they want but losing a 7 WAR player makes the team worse. Loving the fact that they panicked and spent 300 million and traded away talent to come up with Fried, Bellinger, Goldschmidt and Williams. -Orioles appear to be squandering their young talent. They project for a mid-80s win total and have the 17th best farm now according to BA (uh oh!). We tried telling the Orioles Fanboys that this would happen but they wouldn’t listen. -Rays will always be interesting but that payroll as well as every team in the league adopting advanced stats is starting to affect their ceiling each year -Boston refuses to spend though they seem to slowly be crawling back to respectability.

    We could definitely use a big bat that’s more reliable. But given the guys we’ve got it needs to be a pretty big addition otherwise I might not bother. Wagner’s projections are nuts and he hits left handed which is what we need. He can DH and Taters can play LF. It’s going to be hard to find someone that fits in better than that even if you’d like more power than what Wagner provides. I suppose you could look at 3B but with Clement there it’s kind of the same situation. Even LF has some decent internal options. i might add a Kimbrel or Chafin or something and call it good until the deadline.

    Yeah more nightmare than anything else but it's probably a double-edged sword to a degree. You likely have to be incredibly methodical in dealing with him. Any offer you give him he'll take and parade around the league for weeks on end trying to get someone to beat it lol. On the flipside, if you have the biggest offer he probably advises his client to take it and they usually do unless someone's wife overrules him (Corbin Burnes).

    There's absolutely some truth to this but I don't think Shi and BNS are necessarily in on it. When Boras is breastfeeding Heyman, Morosi and other dipshit journos a bunch of false info that gets immediately tweeted out, the team will probably feed BNS and Shi a little bit of info to try and balance the scales.

    This makes sense. With the Jays in on both, Boras isn’t going to let one of Bregman or Alonso sign with us until he’s got the deal ready for the other. So either way they should both sign pretty close together no matter where they end up.

    Yeah it seems pretty likely he's gone but it's not 100 percent certain.

    Yeah the hope for Scherzer is that he didn't get a normal offseason after having back surgery in December of last year. That messed with his preparation and other annoying injuries popped up. The hopeful take is that even with all the nagging injuries, he was still pretty effective. And with a normal offseason he should be able to better prepare himself to get through 120+ innings. He did have a showcase session recently and the Jays liked what they saw. I can only assume his velocity was encouraging and the stuff looked good so hopefully he's on track.
