  1. Let's start new threads for all of the different signings.
  2. This should probably go in the Around Baseball forum
  3. David Ortiz was a fat bastard and mashed until he was 40.
  4. He's got an option left. I would definitely take a chance on him and stash him in AAA as the 3rd Catcher. Heck, you might be right in that he could possibly even be the backup.
  5. I might consider that but it's scary. Here's some tweaks to make it slightly better: -Give him a signing bonus to avoid Canadian taxes. Vlad is living in FL right now so my guess is he has established residency. This works to avoid CA state taxes, not sure if it works to avoid Canadian taxes but I think it might. -Because of that signing bonus which is good for Vlad, in return turn around and stuff as many deferrals into the contract as he'll possibly take to lower the present day value. The deferrals also help him avoid taxes. -Consider adding another year or two to lower the AAV and any potential luxury tax hits -Contend for early playoff exits via the WC3 in perpetuity (because with Vlad's 5 WAR the playoffs will be easy to make)
  6. 5th year could be a team option with a decent buy out. 21 mil team option with a 5 mil buyout, for example.
  7. Yeah I think most people's negative perceptions of the Gimenez trade stems from the fact that the 2025 team needs more offense and Gimenez is a defensive-oriented player. I get that criticism so the short term outlook of the trade isn't necessarily as great as it looks long term, but but overall I think it's a really good trade. Short term it will look better if we make the necessary moves to add some power to the lineup.
  8. Yeah his English is pretty good actually. Probably doesn't want to say the wrong thing and get canceled by the entire country of Canada.
  9. Yeah I can definitely see the argument for trading him. That's why if we do trade him I think we need to rebuild.
  10. I would definitely consider that. He's only 30 and his past two seasons have been nuts.
  11. He'd work as well. Would be cheaper to sign.
  12. How do we feel about Tanner Scott? What kind of contract would you be willing to give him?
  13. The Anthony Santander sweepstakes vs the Angels and Orioles lol
  14. https://x.com/hgomez27/status/1874561276439126326?s=46&t=8sPArj998WhxNSsmZREXtg
  15. I'm trying to unstir it. The Sheriff used that trick many times to help lay down the law. Not sure if it works on the new board.
  16. He's hoping Brownie will put him on the IL so he can't see it
  17. Ok surely we can beat them out...
  18. I'm starting to talk myself into Pivetta if you can get him for 3 years and 60-66 mil. That contract will look like a steal compared to Fried (220M), Manaea (75M), Eovaldi (75M), Severino (67M), etc. Also, compare it to the 15M-20M short term AAVs that backend guys like Boyd, Montas, Cobb and Nick Martinez are getting and it also makes a lot of sense. Ross can't draft and develop anyway so screw the 2nd rounder it's not going to pan out anyway.
  19. No we managed to get under with all the deadline trades last year. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/43082037/dodgers-mets-yankees-top-mlb-record-9-luxury-tax-offenders
  20. Flaherty and Profar would both be good signings. High upside and no QO attached. They'd be my targets. But Pivetta and Tony Taters (Santander) are almost underrated at this point. The QOs suck but it's baked into their cost. Pivetta has a pretty low floor but also a high ceiling due to his peripherals being so damn good. A 3 year deal for him would not kill the franchise in the slightest. Tony Taters just hit 44 bombs (!!!) and is projected to hit 35 this year. He's a switch hitter and his defense is almost underrated. He generally performs better in the defensive metrics than people think. If you could get him on a 4 year deal I don't think it would kill us either. If you got both of them and then made another trade or two to improve the bullpen the team would be smack in the middle of WC contention. Extend Vlad and then you would be in WC contention for the foreseeable future.
