  1. Sandlin is Trevor Richards. That's who he is. Giminez is KK but KK never made 19 mil a year. Looking at career offensive numbers when a young player has one outlier year. The league has figured him out and adjusted. He's a below avg offensive, defense first player. That's not what this team needed, especially at 19 mil a year. We're f***ed until Ross Atkins is fired. We'll be an exciting team at the deadline when we trade Bo, Vlad and Gausman.
  2. He's owed 94 mil over the next 5 years. We couldn't spend 94 over 5 years on a better player. 19 mil year.
  3. It's not. He's not a 6 win player. He can't hit for s***. Cleveland's current management is a lot better than their old management. Whatever little money we had to spend we're spending it on defense and we gave away some offense....Yeah Atkins! Let's jerk off to defensive and positional adjustment FWAR.
  4. He's getting paid 10.5, 15.5 and then 3 years at 23.5. Money still matters to Rogers. He's a 15 mil cap hit but he's make a lot more than that his last 3 years.
  5. under team control at a hefty f***ing salary. It's about roster construction...we have no f***ing offense. I hate ross atkins.
  6. tripling down on pitching and defense. Maybe Bo's going the other way and they'll ask Giminez to play short.
  7. Everyone thinks they didn't bring back Romano because of the medicals. Atkins stated they had no concerns about his health. It's entirely possible they just didn't think he was worth 8 million dollars for 1 year and not bringing him back hand nothing to do with his health.
  8. The elbow injury wasn't that serious. His deal is pending a medical so he'll be ready for spring or the deal will be voided. We have no bullpen. We can't just sign whoever we want. We have to convince guys to come here. We didn't need to convince Romano to come here. He was our property. Given the million holes we have to fill we should have kept him rather than punching another hole in the boat. We're sinking. It's not looking good.
  9. O'neill's contract was very reasonable given this insane market.
  10. So 4/70 present day...just go beat it.
  11. Yes I like soccer. No I'm not British..lol. BA and myself are on the same side. Our farm sucks. Our big money international signings the past 4 years aren't looking great. What player signed over the last 4 years for more than a million dollars is looking intriguing. We spent 4.1 mil on bonilla and he posted a .556 OPS last year. I do have hope for Nimmala and Tiedemann. The cupboard isn't completely bare. I still think we're a bottom 1/3 farm system. Atkins greatest success has been via trade for close to major league ready players. We need to extend Vlad and Bo or trade them but we're doing neither because Atkins is a lame duck GM with his job on the line. I blame Rogers for this situation.
  12. Imagine if Baltimore took their payroll to the luxury tax level like the Jays did. Even after the O'Neill signing they have 110 mil in luxury tax space. They have the money to bring back Burnes, Sign Fried and they still have money to spend.
  13. This feels like groundhog day. Jays all in on Ohtani...I mean Soto and all the guys they should have signed are off the board and they get stuck with s***. The only difference is at the end of this season we lose bo and Vlad and become irrelevant. Shatkins should have lost their jobs this off season.
  14. 10 mil and if he pitches well he opts out and that's all you owe him. If he pitches poorly you have him next year at 16 or you buy him out for 4 mil. That's a great contract for Bieber. He could v14ery well just want to go back to Cleveland, but I would have offered him 14 or 15 with a 4 mil buyout. He's a gamble worth taking. Cleveland got the home town discount.
  15. If the Jays were serious about Soto they would have signed Vlad already. They are going to be wondering why they missed out when they were right there at the finish line. Why is Soto signing with Toronto to play 1 year with Vlad? Boston is already telling Soto that they will get Vlad next off season. If tweedle dee and tweedle dumn had just signed Vlad they might have had a shot at Soto.
  16. Our international signings have been objectively bad the last several years. Who's the next star. A 3+ win difference maker. The Vlad, the Bo, not the guy who might make it to the big leagues and be a non impact player. Our system isn't great. Those trying to dress it up are stretching things. Look at other systems. Martinez is already 23 years old and now linked to PEDs. I think the odds of him being a 3 plus win player are pretty low. Yesevage hasn't pitched an inning yet. Could he be a 3 plus win player. Maybe. Pitchers are really hard to project, especially with the injuries. Right now the 2 highest potential stars are Tiedemann who unfortunately has succumbed to injuries but could definitely bounce back and Nimmala. Nimmala slashed .263/346/565 for a .911 OPS from June on last year. After a terrible start to the season he was really good from June 1 on. He's a short stop with power playing against older players. Playing at dunedin as an 18 year old and putting up those numbers is very encouraging. I'm excited to see his progression next year. I mean there could be some break outs next year, hopefully Yesevage. We need to be better at drafting, our international signings and development. I'm pretty sure every one of our top international signings over the past 4 years posted a sub .700 OPS in the minors last year.
  17. I think Atkins greatest failing as a GM might be not having an extension in place for Vlad. His hard hit percentage, bat speed, contact rates in 22 and 23 were there. He just needed a little less chase and needed to start elevating the ball. It was just a matter of time. It's entirely possible Vlad has a monster year this year. If he has an OPS higher than Soto this year there are going to be 3 teams that were willing to spend 600+ million on Soto this year that didn't get him. What is Vlad getting next year? The Royals locked up Witt Jr. You lock up your stars. The Jays management didn't believe in Vlad. They could have had him at 27 mil a season if they'd just given him 12 or 13 years in 23.
  18. Bieber is the ultimate risk reward player. He's never a guy who relied on velocity. It's all about command and movement on his off speed pitches. He's not even a high risk player. It's a one year contract. The Jays should try and get him for more than one year. He started out last year like a house on fire. By all accounts his rehab is going well and he should be available early in the year.
  19. The only saving grace is it won't help them in the Soto negotiations. Cohen can match the 150 or 200 mil signing bonus with deferrals. He might have to sell a painting or two, but there's shortage of upfront cash with Cohen.
  20. Blake Snell has pitched 180 innings twice. His career high beyond that is 129 innings. Only teams with crazy budgets can gamble on a long term deal on a guy like that. He pairs very well with Glasnow..lol
  21. There's only 130 to pay out. He got 52 million dollars as a signing bonus. As in yesterday they handed him 52 million dollars. That's my issue. If you have a deal 5 year 52 mil contract that's 10.4 mil against the cap paid out once a year over the next 5 years. If you take 5.25% interest rate and do an annuity FV on 10.4 paid out evenly for 5 years you get 57 mil. If you compound 52 mil for 5 years at 5.25 you get 67. My point was they allow discounting for deferrals but they don't take into account outsized abnormal signing bonuses in the tax calculation. It doesn't really matter. The Dodgers have an insane amount of money. Once they sign Soto and deal with their bullpen their payroll will be 370 to 380 which is close to 500 when the tax is paid. Tack on another 50 mil posting fee, which doesn't count against the tax, if they sign Sasaki. Baseball is really fun for small to mid market teams in the national league.
  22. 60 mil in deferrals bringing it to 160 to 165. So the contract is reduced 17 to 22 mil or 4 mil a year. From the player perspective in a time value of money he got almost 30% of his contract paid out yesterday as a signing bonus. That 52 mil adds 10 mil or 2 mil but isn't reflected in the luxury tax figure. That s*** should be sorted out in the next CBA. So he's on the books for 32 mil a year. It should be 34. It's not a massive difference, but it still 2 mil. If they do the same with Soto the difference would probably be 8 to 10 mil because of the length of the contract. Now other teams could do the same too and whatever the Dodgers can do, Cohen can match.
  23. The Dodgers are the guy that wins the billion dollar powerball lottery and goes to vegas and doubles down on the black jack table when he gets dealt a 5 because well....it really doesn't f***ing matter because you have so much money..lol. Watch them sign Soto next. It's ridiculous.
  24. If you're allowed to discount deferrals you should have to add for signing bonuses. The difference between the Annuity future value of 52 mil paid evenly over 5 years at 5.25 percent is 57. Paid day 1 as a signing bonus it grows to 67 mil. That bonus should add 2 mil to the Tax AAV. If you're not going to do this calculation, how do you allow deferrals to be discounted. I doubt they add that 2 mil, so this is just the Dodgers working the system because they have boatloads of cash and it's no biggy to put up 52 in order to throw in deferrals to lower the AAV. They are in the 100% tax so it makes sense for them to do this.
  25. He got paid 52 million as a signing bonus. If you're going to allow discounting of deferrals, you should add to the luxury tax for signing bonuses.
