  1. You don't know what the numbers that were offered and what was asked. I'm not a big Shatkins fan at this point, but I can't even comment without knowing these numbers. I wouldn't have paid 550. There's no savings at that number. You only assume risk of a massive overpayment.
  2. I was all on the extend Vlad train. 13 years 450 or even 12 years 450. That would be an overpay when you peg him to every player in the game save one, being Juan Soto. Soto screwed the market up. I'll take Vlad at his word that he wants to be here. If he's asking 550 he has to have an amazing year to get there. Let's just make the playoffs and if his market commands that level of expenditure feel confident that you can get him next off season. The risks were too great to go to 550. Vlad could have a down year. Vlad could have an injury. Tucker who put up 4.2 wins in 78 games last year might be the free agent with the highest FWAR going into next free agency. The biggest risk that no one considers is play of Juan Soto. What if Soto has a down year and puts up a 5 win season next year. Vlad could put up a 6 win season and go into next season and say, OK pay me my Soto money and the market could be like. That contract was ridiculous and we all dodged a bullet by not offering a 5 win player 51 mil a year.
  3. If Vlad was asking over 500 mil I'd rather just fight the other teams in free agency next year. He's putting a ton of pressure on himself. If the Jays got close to 450 and he turned it down, I do understand that decision by the front office. If the Jays didn't even get to 400 I would be disappointed.
  4. The Jays offered 4 and 80. He signed for 3 and 60. Same AAV one less year.
  5. So they can lose out on getting him to the dodgers..lol. I'm not sure that's the direction I want them to go.
  6. You don't feel bad for me? I might die of alcohol poisoning if this goes on much longer!
  7. So we 7 more hours before midnight. Is that the deadline, or is it 12 pacific? Maybe we have 9 more hours..lol
  8. I don't see us getting bregman. Either swing a big trade, not sure who that would be for, or sign JD Martinez. You don't have to commit to 162 games of JD at DH. 120ish. 1 for 7. He's a great bat to have on the bench for the games he's not in the lineup.
  9. or he always wanted to go back to the Mets and was willing to gamble on himself. We gave him more years, but less than 30 mil that he's getting next year and he can opt out.
  10. Rodriguez has good stuff. It was usually the 2nd or third time through the order that got him. I think dropping a pitch and elevated his other pitches will make him a really good reliever. Green, Hoffman, Garcia, Rodriguez. I'd roll with that and look to add a leverage reliever at the deadline if we're in a playoff position.
  11. It's not like he gets a lump sum cheque. He's on the books for 30 mil. Add another 5 or 6. You just have to commit to that for 12 or 13 years.
  12. I think Scherzer is going to have a low 3s ERA if he's healthy.....maybe even in the high 2s. I think he's going to bring the right attitude and confidence that the team needs. A veteran that will keep the train on the tracks. I love this signing. It's easy to think a guys washed at this age. When you're as good as Max is it's really all about health. The health might not be there, but it was a gamble worth taking.
  13. There was an article where Bassitt, who is incredibly intelligent himself, talks about about how Max Scherzer is insanely bright guy who out thinks hitters. He's an incredibly good resource for the entire pitching staff. Bowden said his velocity was up when he threw for teams. He could just shove and put up a 3.2 ERA too if he's healthy. Well worth the 1 year gamble.
  14. That's baby Dodger fan greed level. I like it.
  15. We unlocked the cheat codes. I mean our spending is at a level we've never gone before. Screw it though. With the money the dodgers are spending, I hope we sign Alonso or Bregman or trade for and impact bat. We seem to be comfortable taking on injury risk so go trade for Yelich.
  16. The count down to sign Vlad is officially on. We signed Santander. That was a big step in the right direction to acquiring a guy Vlad would want to play with. Our next signing should be a Vlad extension. Sign the face of your franchise. 35 mil AAV 13 years....quit worrying about Vlad a decade from now. Just sign him.
  17. Alonso is going back to the Mets. I'd like to sign JD Martinez who would be a solid cheap DH option, but he's a Boras client too so we're not allowed to until Pete signs. Maybe we have a handshake deal with Boras. Let me use you as leverage to get as much as I can out of Cohen and you can have JD Martinez.
  18. He can opt out after year 3, but we can void it and give him year 6. If he's opting out we probably give him year 6. 14 mil against the luxury tax is a solid deal. Less than projected. If only we hadn't ah screw it. I won't even go there. Go sign Alonso now.
  19. Does anyone know if Edward Rogers even watches baseball? Is he a baseball fan? Does he understand anything about baseball?
  20. The dodgers have mostly below average defenders and elite pitching to prevent runs. Muncy, betts at short, Conforto and Hernandez in the outfield are all below average. Smith despite being great at throwing out base stealers is the worst framer and blocker of balls in the league and a below average catcher defensively. Edman is a good defender, but in center field he's only average. Freeman is the total package, but he's a year older now and his defensive skills are on the decline, but he's still a great defender. The best management group in baseball chooses offense over defense. Just pair that offense with elite pitching.
  21. So at this point, we have 8 mil that in cap space and all the top 200 to 250 guys are already gone. We have until Jan14 2026 to spend that money. You can't carry it over. I mean you might sign a couple guys but don't overpay. All the unsigned guys who were eligible will play ball this summer. Those under the radar guys who didn't stand out who take a big leap this year should be ours. Teams have spent 95% of their budget already. There's got to be a couple guys who were over looked that didn't get signed that take a big leap. We may as well wait until after the season until we have more information. Beef up the international scouting department.
  22. This was a monumentally stupid blunder. Every broadcaster in the US and Canada are making fun of this. Even the one's employed by Rogers that usually don't criticize anything are saying Ross...WTF? A quick phone call to the agent saying I've secured an extra 2 mil in bonus space to pay Roki would have done the same as actually securing the money. If he wants to sign with us let me know and I'll make the trade would have done just as much as Ross saying. Let's trade for 2 mil and show Roki how much I really really love him!
  23. Quit pretending there aren't players like Neslon cruz, big papi and many others who succeeded well into their late 30s. You have Vlad as a DH. at age 31...Like you're a wildly pessimistic person.
