  1. Have fun watching Soto and Vlad mash next year. Jays won't make the playoffs for the next decade if they let Vlad go and keep rolling with Atkins.
  2. Of course there's a ton of risk. Soto carries far greater risk. You're talking about 55 mil for the last 10 years of his contract. Atkins was willing to go 51 for 14 years. Going 13 for 35 on Vlad carries substantially less risk. Big papi and Nelson cruz were great into their late 30s. Health is a big factor. He could get fat and out of shape like Cabrera or he could get planter fasciitis like Pujols. You're not going to get great players without assuming risk. Vlad isn't going to be a below average player in his early 30s....give me a break. This really is atkins burner account.
  3. We're not eligible for a lottery pick next year.
  4. We can't have a light hitting left fielder....give me a break. We need to DFA Straw the moment Varsho can return. I'd rather see what Barger and Loperfido have in the outfield than to run out someone I know can't hit.
  5. Isn't Atkins suppose to be the analytical group. I'm starting to think they just google fangraphs like the rest of us. If you look at analytical and advanced stats the last 4 years Vlad was elite in 21, 22 was a bit of a down year. 23 was far better than 22 when looking at the batted ball profile. There was a massive gulf between actual results and expected results. The expected results played out in 24. Vlad has the potential to play 3rd or even the outfield. Vlad's bat is elite. It's not good it's elite. If they signed Vlad for 13 years I expect him to be an above average hitter for 13 years. I expect him to be an elite hitter for the next 7 to 8 years. He's a hall of famer. This organization has 1 hall of famer. He's the most no brainer extensions of all time. Beyond his talent he has great marketability for revenue that comes in beyond what he does on the field.
  6. He's a player that should never play before Loperfido. He was a fill in for Varsho if he misses a month or so of the season at which point he could be DFA'd. That wasn't an issue because we got Sasaki, but we didn't get Sasaki so this trade was just a train wreck. No one has helped Cleveland more than the Jays. Now if only Cleveland would spend some money.
  7. wtf are you talking about? Miles straw played the entirety of last year in AAA and posted a .651 OPS. We're on the hook for 12 mil dollars for a player who's useless. We'll pay luxury tax on this. We're humming and hawing about 100 mil dollars on Vlad and worrying about how he will perform in years 11, 12, 13 of a contract. 12 mil over the next two years plus tax is 16 which is 25 mil+ in year 13 of Vlad's extension. 25 mil of the 100 mil gap between the team and Vlad was just set on fire on the hope that Roki would sign with us. If it had been a sure thing, I get it. To do this without guarantees when money wasn't the driving factor anyways. Like Ross really though if we offer him 8 and the Dodgers offer him 5 he'll choose us. Ross should be fired for making such a stupid deal. What do you think Ross' reputation is around the league? Every other executive in the league is laughing their ass off at Ross. I'm in the fire Ross camp. What can he do to change this. It starts with signing Vlad. Honestly, he should be making a decision on Bo. No one should have more information on Bo than the Jays. What injuries was he playing through. What was happening off the field. Has the league figured him out or do you fully expect him to bounce back? Bo is a short stop who's had an OPS north of .800 every year of his career. If you believe that's who he is thank your lucky stars he had a terrible half a season and sign him to an extension. extra years, lower the AAV. If you don't think he will bounce back trade him. The obvious need is offense. Go sign a couple bats. At this point I'd be on Alonso, or Santander. Both if you can afford it. If you can't one, and there are secondary bat first players on the cheap. Scouting. We've obviously been terrible at identifying talent. We also made changes so we just have to see how things play out. Hopefully Tramuta is the guy who can turn things around. We have International bonus pool money to spend! Cast a wide net. Sign lots of players. All of the so called elite prospects are gone, but it's a crapshoot anyways. Don't overpay for the left overs. Just sign a lot of players. Kirk was a 30K signing. Acuna was a 100K signing. It's time to get moving. Do something.
  8. Yeah, but you shouldn't have to spend 280 mil to get a competitive team that might have a shot at a wild card. You should have a legitimate shot at the division when you spend that kind of money.
  9. Ronald Acuna Jr was 160lbs and signed for 100K. The Royals had the second highest bid at 50K. The Jays have absolutely blown their international spending money the past 4 years. Just go sign 30 or 40 kids. Cast a wide net. They aren't good at this anyways. Might get lucky.
  10. Making this trade without knowing you were getting Sasaki is a fireable offense. Like every GM in the league is laughing at Ross Atkins right now.
  11. well at least we can fire ross atkins now. That Miles straw trade was a f***ing train wreck if you weren't getting Roki Sasaki. Like f*** me.
  12. He has a point. This trade makes no sense if it's not happening.
  13. Holy crap...the jays just traded for 2 mil in international bonus pool money as per Shi
  14. If by some small miracle he chose the Jays and Robert Herjavic had a great sense of humour they'd have him fly to LA and escort Roki and his team to Toronto and when he lands he could get out in with all the media and say....Ah...I'm just messing with you. Come out young man!
  15. Padres are out....and then there were 2. https://x.com/francysromeroFR/status/1880248801648341280
  16. Bregman's market isn't there....he's not getting anywhere near 200 million. 6 and 156 was a fair offer from Houston. He might come in around there or less.
  17. I'm not relying on my gut. I'm looking at advanced stats and there's a bit of eye test to some of the rather fantastic plays he made last year. He's not good, but he's not bad. He's perfectly average as I've said. His arm strength is 65th percentile. His arm value was 3rd percentile. It's highly likely his arm value is much higher next year.
  18. He hasn't lost anything in terms of speed. He made athletic plays in the outfield. His defensive value was hurt the most by some errant throws last. The arm is one of the most variable components of an outfielder's defense. It only takes a couple throwing errors to skew things. I would say Springer is a perfectly average defensive corner outfielder. I'm not concerned about his defense. Now can his bat bounce back!
  19. Frank Herrmann is the Jays scout that followed and had contact with Sasaki over the last couple years. He was also his team mate in Japan so that definitely didn't hurt. Scott Mitchell also said that Yusei Kikuchi talked to Sasaki about Toronto. He loved it in Toronto so we have those 2 things going for us too.
  20. Being the Japanese star of one team will lead to greater endorsement opportunities in Japan vs being the 3rd fiddle on the Dodgers. You don't think the Jays had 4 Canadian CEO's with endorsement opportunities for Sasaki in Canada? He's going to be our star. We'll market the crap out of him. We'll discount your add spots if you give him an endorsement deal. Their are some advantages of being a communications conglomerate that produces every Jays game and sells all the advertising for those games in your other lines of business. Sasaki has also been presented as a guy that would prefer to be in a place away from media frenzy. He prefers to be low key. That's entirely impossible, but Jays are probably the best on that front out of all 3 teams. Today is not the day for news on Sasaki. Fingers and toes crossed. Nothing. If he's signing with the Dodgers it likely comes out today. With no news today, we have a shot.
  21. I'm just going off of what they talking about on MLB radio. They said there was talk that endorsements were important to him.
  22. I'm guessing endorsements was a big part of the pitch. I'd like to introduce you to the CEO and president of company X, Y,Z. You are going to be a star for the club and these Canadian companies will gladly give you endorsement deals. We're the only game in town and we have 38 million people to market to. We're owned by a multi-media company. This is the documentary series we did on our first round draft pick Arjun Nimmala. We can create content that we can sell to Japanese media to help market you in Japan and help you acquire your own endorsements in Japan. There are no other Japanese players to compete with here. Maximizing endorsements is a big deal for a kid who basically gave up 100+ million dollars to come to the MLB 2 years early. I mean, it's still probably the Dodgers, but I can see our appeal.
  23. The meeting he had with the Blue Jays was his second meeting. He met with 2 teams twice. The Jays and Padres. I don't think he's going to the Dodgers. I think it's us or the Padres. I don't think he wants to be in the shadow of another japanese player. Darvish is the exception because he was a childhood hero for Sasaki and he's almost at retirement age. https://www.si.com/mlb/padres/san-diego-padres-news/roki-sasaki-had-second-meeting-with-padres-in-san-diego-in-massive-development-01jhgm2tkc3j
  24. got to draw the line somewhere. Sexual deviant is the line for me. I'd sign Osuna again though!
