  1. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/diamondbacks-to-sign-zack-greinke.html "Greinke will receive about $195MM over six years, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweets. That figure comes just $22MM short of David Price‘s $217MM deal with the Tigers, which was the largest ever for a pitcher. If Nightengale’s numbers are accurate, Greinke’s $32.5MM AAV will be the largest ever, eclipsing Price and Miguel Cabrera. Also, as the Bay Area News Group’s Andrew Baggarly tweets, Greinke will be taxed at a significantly lower rate in Arizona than in California." Largest EVER AAV given any player and it goes to a pitcher over 30, this is really a crazy time for baseball. A fairly small market team historically shells out that much for a veteran pitcher? Wow
  2. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/marlins-offer-barry-bonds-rumor.html Obviously a very controversial move but that is to be expected from the Marlins' franchise. Did not know former Jay Frank Menechino was the incumbent coach and will remain as an assistant hitting coach. Should be interesting to see if he gets some of the spotlight, I like the sounds of him working with guys like Stanton and Ozuna though.
  3. Is Trouba going to break out now? 3 points against 2 s***** teams doesn't mean much. Waiting...
  4. Cool, that's good to have a guy for the meetings. Hopefully they add a pitcher.
  5. Yeah that makes sense and MLBTR uses the basic stats for their arbitration model. "Another quirk to the arbitration process is that it usually only factors in “baseball card statistics” rather than more sophisticated metrics. While teams signing free agents are typically up to speed on sabermetrics, the arbitration process does not account for them. Counting stats are important, as is playing time in general. Since labor lawyers typically sit on arbitration panels, the concept of “making it to work every day” is something that holds value. Hitters are typically evaluated using batting average, home runs, runs batted in, stolen bases and plate appearances. There are some positional adjustments, but typically the added defensive value of a shortstop relative to a first baseman is not as important in arbitration hearings as it is on the free agent market. Hitters also can receive larger arbitration awards if they have unique accomplishments, such as winning an MVP award. Pitchers typically are evaluated using innings pitched and earned run average. Starting pitchers are rewarded for wins, and relievers are rewarded for saves and holds. Unique accomplishments, such as Cy Young Awards, matter for pitchers as well" http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/mlb-trade-rumors-arbitration-model.html
  6. How much of arbitration is based on the simple stats though? I think it's becoming much less these days but would like to know how this has been evolving. I doubt it means much now, everyone knows the stats that go beyond batting average. I think arbitration goes alright for the most part, MAYBE saves is still a bargaining point?
  7. Smoak signed for 3.9 million getting himself a very nice pay raise. I wonder if they'll keep the Smoakabello platoon or opt to add a more versatile player. Also Thole is hopefully gone for good. Discuss.
  8. lol not the best. They give a very nice picture and are useful but anyone with half a brain can adjust them if they put some effort in.
  9. Stupid f***ing trade
  10. lol Logan Forsythe and James Loney not cutting it as cleanup threats for him! Who would've thought!?
  11. read post above. I'm sure there's a market for a 1 year pitcher who's a near lock to put up 200 innings of decent stats
  12. You could move him to teams like the Tigers who need SP badly or even the White Sox (Sale, Quintana, Rodon, ??). I wonder how much a guy like Avisail Garcia would cost, still young but has put up some brutal numbers. If he sticks to 1B he's an interesting wild card. Still, dealing Dickey to a team who needs 1 year of pitching depth seems like a good idea. We could be paying for it come July though when any of Estrada/Chavez/Happ become fringe rotation pieces.
  13. That's the whole point. He is a nice piece and other teams would want him. I'm not going to suggest trading Goins for a solid player lol.
  14. Doubt they go with the current rotation. Anyone else think Dickey is getting dealt? I mean they basically have a good #2 young pitcher and 4 veteran #4's, not bad but hopefully they can do a bit better.
  15. It would take A LOT to get Walker, I don't know if the Jays even have what it takes. To me he is on the verge of becoming something special after turning the corner early last season.
  16. Agree. Look at Bard and Feliz as recent examples... obviously Osuna is younger and should be stretched as a starter at some point, but to hand him the keys to a rotation spot next year would be stupid IMO.
  17. I think at minimum they should sign a guy like Gallardo, he's a capable major league starter who will give you some quality innings and get shelled on occasion, a lot better than throwing a total scrub out there like Blanton.
  18. 1 year of Chavez is nice and perfect for a team trying to go for it. If he were a FA he'd get multiple years, so I don't know how people could be upset about giving up Hendriks. If anything it's a fair trade and one that a fairly "short term" team like the Jays should make.
  19. Totally disagree with you. This isn't 20 years ago where saves was one of the most important statistics. Teams have analytic departments, some GM's like RAJ make poor decisions but in general they know Hendriks was great last year. But, believe whatever you want.
  20. Pretty sure teams don't evaluate pitchers based on what inning they were used in...
  21. LaCava probably liked him too. To me, he's a good fit for every team. Big strong guy, throws hard, good control, and he does have nice secondary stuff. Not much not to like other than his crappy season.
  22. They'll likely get another starter. The best guess is probably Samardzija, they were rumoured to like him in the past, but he won't be cheap since every other team realizes he's still probably very good.
  23. Chavez is a much better starter from what we've seen.
  24. I think he broke down at the end of the last two seasons and pitched poorly. He's been a reliever but he's also listed at 6'2, 160 which isn't very promising if true. This is a good trade, though!
  25. Cruz? Yes he was... edit you meant Morales I think, sorry. Yes Morales winning the Silver Slugger was retarded.
