  1. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/2015-16-top-50-mlb-free-agents-with-predictions.html Does anyone on the board want to do a free agent prediction contest again this year? You guys can use this as a guideline and make your adjustments as necessary. This was pretty fun last year and was a good way to follow the offseason.
  2. Anyone catch this awful write up on the Jays offseason from fangraphs? I thought Dave Cameron was supposed to be legit: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-top-50-free-agent-predictions/ "With a bunch of departures from the pitching staff, Mark Shapiro’s primary task this winter is going to be to add some rotation depth. I expect them to re-sign Marco Estrada for $33 million over three years, then add another quality innings eater in Ian Kennedy, though his ability to miss bats will cost a little more: $42 million over the same three year term. I’d also expect them to bring back Dioner Navarro at $10 million over two years, and then do the rest of their work through trades."
  3. This is probably fine for Seattle. They save some money and get rid of two guys they don't like. LoMo never turned out to be the good player most thought he could be, I don't see how this is a fleecing by any means. You guys need to relax on the Rays train. This is a minor trade, not acquiring Josh Donaldson or Troy Tulowitzki ffs lol.
  4. Sometimes, especially when you're in win now mode, this could be the best way to improve your team. Let's say one year some team has very good players at most of their positions, making it very difficult to upgrade their offense/defense. Also let's assume they have what will likely be a very good bullpen, but their starting pitching is absolutely awful. If the market for starting pitching is poor (but there are a couple very good FAs) and they can't strike a reasonable trade to upgrade, why not attempt to spend big dollars to put the team into contention? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you guys implicitly assume that you can upgrade your roster by 1 win for 10 million dollars when it is of course a lot more complicated than that. The market doesn't have infinite players. Sometimes it might make sense to expect a loss in the future just like the deadline trades this year, I'm sure most people on this forum would agree.
  5. Yeah but sometimes you need to give out contracts that will probably look poor in a few seasons. Since Toronto will have a pretty high payroll, he said he could add some more risk which makes sense. I'd like them to take some risks and then attempt to restock since the team is clearly in win now mode.
  6. I think he is a smart baserunner. He is slow though. That year he got 12-15 steals was pretty impressive for his speed.
  7. Those seem like really insane odds...
  8. What? If something leaks and people put heavy money on one name they could definitely lose out if they don't adjust the odds or take the bet down in time.
  9. Well of course, anyone who gambles a bit knows prop betting is generally terrible. It gives a nice picture of the potential candidates though.
  10. Sports Interaction has a prop bet for the next Jays GM, some of the names are funny: Ross Atkins 3.75 Tony LaCava 4.00 De Jon Watson 4.50 Billy Eppler 4.50 Tyrone Brooks 4.75 Josh Byrnes 5.00 Thad Levine 5.00 Mike Hazen 5.00 Ray Montgomery 6.00 Kim Ng 10.00 Ben Cherington 13.00 Frank Wren 21.00 Larry Beinfest 26.00 Dan O'Dowd 29.00 Dan Jennings 41.00 Kevin Towers 51.00 Harold Reynolds 101.00 Larry Walker 151.00 Joe Carter 201.00 Cito Gaston 301.00 Bobby Cox 501.00 Don Cherry 751.00 Stephen Harper 1001.00
  11. He does have a nice arsenal for weak contact, but when you read that someone is comparing him to Carrasco/Kluber in terms of K-rate and GB % you laugh a bit. Stroman doesn't strike me as a guy who could ever be around 10 k/9 as a starter. As much as I love him I think he's going to be a very good #2 starter but not an ace like the guys mentioned.
  12. troll post? Based on what? HDMH?
  13. Are also Cy Young contenders next season lol. Stroman is great but not on that level.
  14. Ben Cherington is apparently teaching at a university or something this year, but you wonder if he's on the list of potential interviewees?
  15. That would be interesting. Ricciardi and Gibbons at the helm once again...
  16. Ha that is fair enough. I'd like to see Pillar win, but not a big deal.
  17. Didn't see that, already fell way down the page lol. I guess nobody gives a s*** and only cares about Mark Shapiro ATM.
  18. In the midst of all the AA/Shapiro talk, maybe people missed that the gold glove finalists are out: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/155895822/gold-glove-award-finalists-announced 3 Jays Buehrle, Martin and obviously Pillar are nominated. I think Pillar has a decent chance of beating Kiermaier, even if he might not deserve to. I haven't seen Kiermaier's highlight reel for the whole season, but haven't seen a player make that many great catches in a long time. His riskiness really paid off this season and it would be nice for him to take home the gold. Not sure about the other two.
  19. The job is always up, I don't know how often I guess they hire a guy for 4 or 8 months. I'm guessing the pay is s*** and the hours are awful, but would be an interesting experience for sure
  20. anyone finding this interview extremely boring?
  21. Yeah basically that's why he's leaving IMO
  22. where can I listen to this guys? Didn't read the whole thread
  23. 1:30 coverage on sportsnet
