BP writeup on Bateman from pre-season:

And that was written before this year... .310 .430 .420 at triple a this year, so indeed some gap power is starting to show a bit.

In saying that as Laika suggested a while back, it's likely best to hold on to Bieber, and see what we get in the 2nd half and go from there we ain't getting squat for him, it simply wouldn't be worth it.

I wonder if the Cubs asked for Hoffman as well and Atkins said stuff it.  They have no reliable late inning reliever and Palencia is still out

Highlights on YouTube show a CF homer

It's not ZERO power.

Southisene is rated higher but Bateman looks better to me. If you squint you can make a case for Bateman to be your starting CF at some point.

I am not seeing it with Southisene. He must be a whiz out there in the field but how? He’s 5-7!

Palencia's like a week away, going on a rehab stint shortly.

Atkins ridding of one of our pillars for two slap hitting midgets who cannot lift the ball considering that this team is lacking offense.

The team is lacking in on base percentage, and he got 2 guys with a combined .400 on base percentage.

I totally get that might not transition to the majors where pitchers have better control.

The bat speed thing is weird though and I think it puts a wrinkle in evaluating guys like this.  Lowest bat speed is Kwan, Arraez, Simpson, and Wilson.  All outliers.  All freaks.  Combined average of .290 or something in MLB.    None of those guys walk much, but if you could combine the low bat speed high average skill with some walks it could play.

Blue jays play the cubs on thursday lol

Neat, his turn comes up in that series. Oh it's a makeup game but FG has him pitching that day.

When I saw the return for Skubal I knew we were getting s*** for Gausman. Better off not doing anything and hoping for the best especially with the likelihood that next season won't be here for a long while.

I wonder if Ross is doing Gausman a solid by trading him somewhere close to TO and in return he hopes to resign him this offseason

Otherwise I have no idea why we would want an Oompa Loompa short stop prospect

Southisene has not hit a HR in over 700 pro PA lmao

Sounds perfect for our front office MO

Yes

And Bieber we CAN give a qualifying offer to if that seems appropriate at the time

Yeah, I said this after the Castillo trade, and especially after the Skubal return, although they still did alright.

Exactly, or a couple year extension if need be.

Maybe sort of a Kolten Wong and David Eckstein thing going on

I'm like 30% sure Bateman is the starting CF for the team either immediately after the trade deadline (bye Varsho) or by September when they don't care about Varsho anyway.

I saw an updated scouting report which has him at 5'9 which is MASSIVE. That takes you from runt territory to like, Cedanne Rafaela?

If he handles the bat and is solid in CF. Sounds like have atleast a decent platoon option in CF for next Season in Bateman.

Now to address power in LF, RF, DH. Hope the Monstars return Vladdy’s talent.

If Varsho is traded (seems like a safe bet), then yeah I think Bateman is the starting CF. They literally have no one else. Atkins might be the only GM insane enough to pick up Straw's 2027 option but I hope Bateman at least pushes them away from that now.

Right. If we’re just going to get a bunch of Will Wagner lites I’d rather just hold onto everybody and live with the results

Unfortunately, the front office has been going after guys like this for years now. A complete shift in mentality for what kind of offensive profile they tend to value highly.

Tapia, Gimenez, Clement, Straw, Wagner, Roden, Clase, Lukes, Loperfido, and Vlad. Sure im missing some others too

Definitely could be a factor. People seem to completely forget about the human aspect of these transactions.

They picked it up this past season, I see them doing it again to be honest.
