Yeah if I knew we were going to trade Gausman for prospects with no pop at all, I would've kept him.

The 5-foot-7 Southisene profiles as a hit-over-power middle infielder with plus speed. He has strong contact skills and rarely strikes out. His in-zone whiff rate is the lowest in the Cubs’ system, and he makes good swing decisions, though he is passive at times. Southisene doesn’t project to hit for much power. He produces fringe-average exit velocities and his batted ball angles are poor. Southisene has played primarily shortstop this season, but profiles best at second base due to below-average arm strength. He profiles as a potential contact and speed-oriented bench bat

I could maybe get behind it if we hadn't done the Taillon deal, but that kind of makes this trade be of marginal benefit at best. I'd have greatly preferred to just keep Gausman and hope we can go on a run.

I read an article about a month ago by Rosenthal or Passan? That most owners spoke with their GM's about the real threat of no baseball next season... and it's painfully obvious most are listening, there's not as much leverage as originally thought for sellers coming in to this deadline, the market has cratered, it probably would've been better to just stand pat or buy and go for it. 

In saying that, Gausman's gone now, so the Jays best sell everything they can with expiring contracts save for Bieber and tank so hard we fall in the bottom six teams for draft protection, we're currently ranked as the 7th worst team, tank you f*ckers, tank hard. And reboot in the winter. *sighs*

Think ahead, Move enough contracts so we can be under the cap and maybe make a core free agent signing this winter. As most teams be up against cap. Most teams in playoff race can't cut contract

Holding on to Gausman and others hoping for the team to not only be good for 2 months but also for six teams ahead of them to suck simultaneously didn't make much sense. If the market really is this bad for sellers, then it's just bad luck that the Jays are sellers. Hopefully they can buy something today in addition to selling, but makes a lot more sense to try to duck the luxury tax penalties at this point. We don't know what the next CBA will look like but based on history you have to assume even if games are lost that it will be something resembling the one we have now rather than a salary cap, so work within that mindset.

The luxury tax in general, probably not. The highest threshold I believe is the one that impact the first round pick falling 10 spots, so getting under that at a minimum should be the goal.

I hate the Nimmala trade as well.

I don’t see the mad rush to get a half a year of soriana that is useless to us basically and I really really like Nimmala as a prospect.

Yes but part of the value is the rest of this year which if we traded Gausman we already basically gave up on.

Its kinda the prototypical Atkins move, trade for a guy that can help in 2 future years before the need arises. 

Not saying it's a great move eitehr, im kinda luke-warm on it, but this is pretty much the pitching equivalent of the Varsho trade

Yea but why trade for half a season for Soriano after trading Gausman? 

I just don’t get it. It’s also coloured by me being way higher on Nimmala than most people but god, like it’s been ten years. Can we develop enough of our own f***ing pitching already and stop signing every cast off from Cleveland to play up the middle? 

Like we have a shortstop with pop who likes a year away, but no it’s more Gimenez and more slap hitters. It’s annoying .

Will be interesting to see how the rest of the day pans out now, Basically replaced Gausman with Soriano. You have Tallion in the mix now. Possibly they plan to shut down Trey early. It doesn’t really make much sense to trade Bieber. You actually just hope he pitches well down the strech and qualify him. Max didn’t want to pitch anywhere but Toronto apparently so will be interesting to see if his mind changed and or anyone would even trust him to acquire him.

In typical Jays fashion, everything goes wrong. Seems like every time we are sellers we get screwed over with injuries or a bad market

I don't even think Atkins knows where this team is going. Jays probably have the worst farm system in the majors now, very easily bottom 3. I guess it's going to be a half ass try to win now, oh well.
