When Taters comes back they should just dump Jesus Sanchez. I can't take anymore of him.

Haha... remember this? I love him chirping the SS and 3rd baseman too... I'd welcome him back for real, switch hitting power bat thank you very much.

I suspect there's a chance Santander knows he may not hit many more HRs in his life and thus is going to start enjoying the trot.  I know I did near the end of my playing career.

Nah, there was history in the series with HBP and even Taters in his first AB, and the vet took charge, lol. That HR was last year about the same time.

Oh I missed that the video was old.  Although maybe he knew just how bad his shoulder was then? LOL

Yeah, last season, he was beaned in that game... he came back and showed great signs and his shoulder died again. This is 2.0 lol

Statistically speaking and adjusted for league wide OPS Josh Smith mid September 2026 = Jose Bautista mid September 2009

Age - almost the same

Stats pre Blue Jays - almost the same adjusted for league norms

Pre Jays Homerun power - like 13 a year

Traded for very little - true for both

Massive Power break through late in age 28 season - true for both, Smith has only done it for 2 weeks though, Jose did it for 4.

Minor league stats - decent for both with evidence of good eye.

50 homer season incoming - Jose yes.  Smith probably not.  But maybe he'll have a more minor breakthrough and combined with his defense be good?

wondering if we need to change Spencer arrighettis role?

Yes - to AAA starter.  Unfortunately, the current alternatives are barf-inducing.  It turns out having like 9 pitchers get hurt all at once challenges your depth a bit.

Spaghetti has been awful though.  Offseason project for the team.

Agree on Spaghetti being an offseason project. He could pan out for us but it's not happening right now.

As for other options, I'd consider calling Dallas back up but he's more of a reliever now. Maybe it's Nolan Perry time?

They clearly acquired Spaghetti as a project for 2027 but had to thrust him into this role due to having no other options. They literally have no one else unless they intentionally do two bullpen games every 5 days, which doesn't seem optimal, or willingly start Lorenzen (might actually be better than Spaghetti at this point). They have to pray someone (in this case Spaghetti) can get through 4-5 innings every 5 days and then do a bullpen game the other time (or use any off days to skip it).

There was a recent Sportsnet piece that outlined how Lorenzen and the club had optimized his mechanics and unearthed an improvement of his stuff. His most recent outing saw him average nearly 96 MPH on the 4 seamer which is up a few ticks based on his season average so there might be enough in the tank to provide the club some solid bulk innings.

Yeah I do feel like just throwing Lorenzen might be a better option.

At least he is probably going to throw strikes and let the defense work. And if things go well he can give you some innings.

Spaghetti is lost, can't throw strikes, has no stamina. He is best deployed (if you must roster him) as a two inning guy at the most right now. RP7.

I am wondering if we will make playoffs.

it doesn’t seem right Cleveland got no penalties for the abuse of the term “Indian” and now they are going to get a chance at a World Series, when we haven’t won in over 30 years.  I took First Nation studies in grade 12 instead of History, so if you knew what I knew you’d know that a team that abused the natives should not be winning anything, maybe ever.

if there is 30 teams and we won in 1993, that means our turn should of been before 2023 and it’s already 2026.

that doesn’t seem right

Ok I'm sold. Swap Lorenzen and Spaghetti.

Lorenzen is the new #4 SP and Spaghetti is a multi-inning reliever available for those bullpen days where he can air it out for 2-3 innings.

I like the stuff that Arrighetti features but he's just too prone to falling behind and then making mistakes with his fastballs in hitter counts.

Yeah he's shown pretty good stuff with the Jays. 104 Stuff+ will play. But his Location+ has been brutal (88).

The Jays need to get him in the lab this offseason (aka Pete Walker's garage/beer fridge) where he can snap off 100 breaking balls in a row into the wee hours of the morning. Until that happens I don't have very high expectations for him.

Spaghetti gets decent Stuff grades on some of his pitches, but he doesn't have the velo to throw the fastball an awful lot nor does he have the single elite playable secondary to really rely on.

He has become a wide arsenal dork but he doesn't have the command or pitchability to make that work

I would probably tighten up his arsenal - maybe he went too far off the deep end of the "three fastballs, wide arsenal" trend

Not sure exactly what to kill but he was better as a rookie when he didn't throw a sinker. Not sure why he needs a sweeper and curveball, he should already be able to deal with RHB with the four seamer and curveball

  • Kill the sinker
  • Focus on developing the CUTTER as your weapon against LHB
  • Merge the sweeper and curve into one breaking ball. Don't care what you call it. Just whatever his most comfortable and natural breaking ball is. One pitch, this will help with command and consistency.
  • FA-CT-BB that is 90% of your pitches. Some kind of changeup is the fourth. That's it.

This will play in Buffalo. The Bisons will have a good rotation in 2027.

Which I think is exactly what the plan was when he was acquired. I really don't think they acquired him with plans to chuck him into a starter's role or bulk-guy-after-the-opener down the stretch. Injuries forced it when he's not really ready for it.

He's the kind of guy who will really suffer in a lockout situation since he absolutely needs to live in the lab in the offseason, but won't be able to if the players are locked out.

Schlittler allowing almost no runs at all

Whatever. If we make the post season and Cease throws a good game in the wild card round then I don't care at all.

1st in the Cy or second... Cease has had Cy Young caliber season. Whether he wins the award based on a few points of ERA is immaterial really. The two are as close in results as you can possibly be almost. There's no reason why Schlittler should clearly win, also no reason why Cease should clearly win. It's a 2-horse race and should be a split decision.

For Cease though, finishing second in the Cy costs him 25 grand since his contract Cy bonus is 150k, 2nd place is 125k. Already banked 50k for the AS selection.

NL Cy is much fun even though the Misiorowski dominance narrative is overblown. Chris Sanchez is right there with him and the race is certainly not as slam dunk as people would have you believe. Even Sale and Luzardo should be in the conversation though Sale's IP totals might cost him. Overall I'd still say the Miz wins, but dismissing everyone else to 2nd place just cuz 100mph is kinda silly.

Santander's first rehab game in Buffalo, 0-4 with a K.

At least he didn't die.

I actually think that might be the best possible outcome for him and Vlad...
