Ross Atkins I saw no pools of talent being developed over the last 10 years and NOT ONE solid MLB pitcher had been developed in the 10 years under Shatkins. Thank goodness for a top five payroll, otherwise let's be honest. Prior to the WS run, can someone please remind me of the other successful playoff years? Just curious. Ball4Life and Brownie19 2

As has been mentioned many times over the years, meathead, there is a lot of luck involved in playoff runs. Baseball is all about large sample sizes, the playoffs are a small sample size. The job of a GM is to build a sustainable winning team that make the playoffs regularly so that they have more chances at having everything clicking at the right time. Since Boss Atkins rebuilt the mess he inherited from AA, they Jays have been winning at a .543 clip for half a decade now. The best stretch in franchise history. They've also made the post season 4 times in 6 years. And as you would expect, it was only a matter of time for playoff success to follow. Keep in mind, they've been having all this success while being in the toughest division in baseball, where teams like Boston and New York also spend big money. You should be smooching Boss Atkins feet, not questioning him, after the team he built just had the best season in over 3 decades and came within an inch of winning the whole ball of wax. I hope and pray that they love Leo Jimenez and they just plug him into that spot. Two months of IKF this past Sept/Oct felt like a lifetime. I can't do a full season. He cost them the World Series…no way they can justify him coming back

Love is the scariest emotion because sometimes logic doesn’t compute when the love is strong. I hope we have seen the end of IKF in Toronto but I’m terrified that we haven’t. Dude sounded like he’d play in Toronto for free. I want to live in a world where the Pirates never release IKF in September and he just finishes the year out with them. I’m not going to guess or assume what would have happened in that scenario, all I know is it’s a world I would have preferred living in.

I think there are some signs pitching is improving. And there last two drafts seem promising both sides.

His value is the lowest it could possibly be. I don’t think they have anything to lose by seeing how this season goes. Still lots of time to make moves at deadline. Every team has dead weight and you gotta deal with it

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 Santander costs $14 million towards the luxury tax pay roll. Dumping him when his value is at it's lowest makes no sense. I highly doubt his contract is holding the Jays back from signing anyone.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 I mean, if the Jays somehow signed both Bo and Tucker, and wanted to trade Santander to free up a roster spot, then I could see the logic behind it, but trading him just to dump him seems a little hasty to me. As mentioned his luxury tax hit is minimal, and there's very real 2 WAR/30 HR bounce back potential next season. He is a one trick pony but that one trick when done at the level he's done it in the past is very valuable.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 I think Santandar's contract was great when we signed him. Obviously a bad year with injuries sucked for us. The only part I hate about it now with hindsight is us not being able to go after Schwarber, he would be the ideal top of the lineup left handed bat. Regardless, its very reasonable to expect a bounce back year from Santandar... dont think it could be worse.

So when someone has a different opinion on how this team had been managed the past ten years, you resort to personal attacks. Typical for a boot licking lib like yourself, so transparent. It's not that difficult in grabbing one of the SEVEN playoff spots that are available with a top five MLB payroll. You're sad..

Ray Verified Member Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 I think a lowkey huge advantage we have when it comes to Tucker is that he notoriously HATES attention and doing media. Buster Olney said that they’ve asked Tucker to do mid game interviews on Sunday Night baseball dozens of times and he’s rejected them every time. This is a dude that shy’s away from the limelight if he can help it. I really doubt he prefers to be in New York, LA, or Philly unless they are the only ones to meet his number. Those markets are brutal if you’re trying to avoid the spotlight. And Toronto obviously is a big media market, but it punches below its weight when it comes to scrutiny imo. That’s my offseason gossipy take

DH - Springer (R) RF - Tucker (L) 1B - Vladdy (R) 2B - Bo (R) LF - Santander (S) C - Kirk (R) 3B - Barger (L) CF - Varsho (L) SS - Giminez (L) Bench - Heineman, Lukes, Clement, Schneider That offense would be unreal good. OF defense takes a hit but the bench would help.

Olerud363.354 Verified Member Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 What do people think of Jonatan Clase vs Straw? Clase has elite sprint speed and decent power (as evidenced by a 20 homer minor league season and that one long clutch homerun I think against the Cardinals) decent walk rate. Straw is a noodle with the bat but decent walk rate (for a noodle), speed and a .250 hitter. Frustrating seeing Straw come up so much and so empty in the World Series, but that is low sample size and his skill set could have just as easily produced a walk or single that would turn a game. Clase would have been more a threat for some power that could turn a game (of course could just as easily gone 0 for 9). I guess we owe Straw money, but would you rather of Clase in that roster spot. Would it be possible to trade some combination of Straw, Satander, Berrios for another bad contract? If so which one?
