[ALCS GM 6] Mariners (Gilbert) vs Blue Jays (Yesavage): 10/19/25, 8:08pm

First elimination game of the playoffs and Jays stepped up to the occasion. 

Those 3 DP plays in a row were huge. Pressure is on, and they executed.  Meanwhile, Mariners cracked under pressure and had 3 errors.

At least I hope they learned from their mistakes on that.  We win how we win, you don't pull unjustified, desparate moves from a panic button.

Regardless, winning Game 7 is all that matters.  World series should factor 0% to any reasoning for the game tomorrow.  

Yup, you do everything you can to win game 7 and you start worrying about the WS on Tuesday.

Not sure how youd look at using your best pitcher out of the bullpen for 1 inning as desperation.  You also have to take into consideration how our current bullpen has performed (mostly horrible) and adjust accordingly.  

Also, if you havent noticed the Dodgers are using plenty of their starters out of the pen and are in the world series.  Its happened plenty of times for numerous world series winners.

I'm back just to say, let's f***ing go! We got our game 7, and our offense is coming alive!

Jays stepped up big time in this one. Trey Yesavage has balls of steel as he added another post season gem to his already impressive resume. The defense put on a clinic, with little plays like Varsho holding the runners with a quick relay to the infield, to the 3 double plays and so on. Superstar Vlad just keeps on shining brighter and brighter and he's playing the best baseball of his career in all 3 phases of the game, including creating runs on the bases and providing stellar defense.

Of course John Schneider had to do something stupid with his bullpen as that's entirely on point in recent games. Thankfully Hoffman was given the chance to face the top of the Mariners lineup and looked tremendous in closing the door, but why on God's green earth did he need to come back out for a second inning of work with a 4 run lead? Like Schneider refuses to use him in a 1 run game but leaves him out there for 6 outs with a 4 run lead, I just don't understand.

I think this team has what it takes to beat the Dodgers. Fingers crossed they get the job done tonight, but whatever happens it's been a magical run this season.

Holy moly man somebody needs to back off of the ledge. Hoffman just pitched 2 tremendous innings and struck out 4 hitters. Apparently we weren't watching the same pitcher because I saw a guy dominate the Mariners.

Hoffman was on tonight. Every pitch was around the edges of the zone. His velo was good too, 96 or so on the fastball. 

Though I don't think they should use him much in game 7. Maybe to like end an inning. You don't want to be stuck 3 batters like with Little.

Jays had to win Game 6 and they did. 

The bats came out and kept adding on runs to their lead throughout. They could have blew it right open a couple of times when they had the bases loaded, but yeah seems like 5 to 6 runs is the sweet spot for this team, especially when it comes to closing out a game. 

Yesavage at age 22 has been one of the best stories on this team. For him to bounce back like he did in an elimination speaks volumes about his character and how he handles pressure! He got lucky with those double plays when he had the bases loaded, but he made his pitch each time and didn't buckle down under pressure. Kudos to the kid!

As for Vladdy, he's been playing on another level during the Postseason, both offensively and defensively. This is the Vladdy that is worth $500M. I know the Postseason is still a small sample size, but you hope Vladdy has unlocked another gear in his game, and we see this kind of Vladdy moving forward during the regular season. Looking a 10 WAR player out there if he puts up these numbers.

As for Schneider using Hoffman for 2 innings at 30+ pitches: he got the job done and sealed the deal, which is the most important. You needed to win Game 6 at all costs. Just hope Hoffman is useful for tonight if needed and he isn't burnt out. You'll probably see them use Dominguez in a similar role tonight for the 8th and possibly for more than 3 outs. 

Overall, looking forward to Game 7 tonight. All hands on deck!

That's irrelevant.  We're talking about how he'll perform on Game 7 if called upon.

Hoffman has typically been lit up when he doesn't have his velo and his command is awful by the metrics.  It's great he dominated last night - he did have good command for once. I just have no faith he'll have that type of command again anytime soon, because I watched him pitch this year.

I don't like the prospects of him trying to close out Game 7 throwing 94 tonight.   But a broken clock is right twice a day, so may he'll have good command in B2B outings for the first time in 3 months.

I always thought the game would have evolved by now such that the 'starting pitcher' role would have become gray.   That there would be more guys used as Lauer was used this year.

Jays had an opportunity to do that this year but kind of passed on it.  Like after Bieber came up instead of just moving Lauer to the bullpen they could have done some piggy backing and had everyone gotten a little experience out of the bullpen.

I guess there is a lot of resistance to this.  Starters probably just hate getting out of their routine.  

To bad Berrios got injured.  Would love to see how his stuff played out of the bullpen.

He normally would get lit up pitching 2 days in a row all season too. Wonder if that factors in here and they don’t plan to use him in leverage tonight at all.

I think they would have smashed Gilbert regardless. Seattle starting has not faired well in this series.

Yankees SPs were all smashed too. Team has done a very good job smashing elite starters all year, its usually the trashbag shitballers like Yarbrough that shut us down.

The Yankees not rostering him in the DS was a curious decision.  Instead they carried some relievers that they seemed reluctant to use.

Hoffman sucks.  Varland, Dominguez, Fluharty, Little.  We have all those guys ready.  Varland can go 4 outs like he does every game.

I think @Nexiiis right that the most we should see him is to get a last out of an inning or something. In an all hands on deck situation there are a lot of guys I trust more than Hoffman the day after throwing 35 pitches

I think Gausman has to be the weapon today. He could be the 6 out closer. 

Bieber - Varland - Gausman = the ideal roadmap. 6, 1, 2. 

If Bieber cannot give you 6 innings, then Seranthony + Hoffman are in play for the middle innings

If gausman went 30 pitches he should still be good for 3 days rest id assume?

Such a crazy up and down series. A close series with almost no close games. Like two heavyweights just trading haymakers. 

Both teams at various times have looked like the Team of Destiny, or the Team Destined to Lose 

Game 5, Clement's bizarre and insane double play off home plate. Destined to Lose. 

Clement's 363 flyball is robbed from being a homer. Destined to Lose.

Little and Seranthony serving it up. Destined to Lose. 

Cal Raleigh 340 foot pop fly homer. The Mariners are the Team of Destiny. 

Game 6. Vlad 116 mph groundball out with the bases juiced. Destined to Lose? 

And then Cal Raleigh bases loaded double play. Team of Destiny? 

Next inning, same thing. Team of Destiny? 

Leo Rivas is two feet from a two run  homer, ends up with a silly single. Team of Destiny?
