It was earlier in the season but on rates and barrells they were trying to pick under the radar possible future closers, and Fisher's name came up.

I know most MLB teams give AAA guys a chance out of the pen after September but their entire career is established as a starter.  Imagine coming in cold with runners on for your first big league experience sounds daunting but teams do it.  Also, A ball to MLB in the same year is crazy.

The casual takes are on another level loll. I remember a guy on my softball team adamantly stating they needed to get rid of Bo and make IKF the everyday shortstop.

At least on this forum we mostly have level-headed takes or things that can be backed up by numbers and common sense.

They likely will if Sandlin and Yimi don't come back, I doubt the latter will be back with an ulner issue, We should actually see that move before the Brewers series or at least by Sunday.

He needs to be added to the 40 man and 26 man by Sunday, IIRC on the latter part if they want to use him in the playoffs, he has the makeup and talent to do quite well, very polished pitcher.

Would it kill Dustin Hoffman to simply blow the lead? Maybe just let them tie it or we’re down by 1? Why does he have to just completely suck ass and put the other team ahead multiple runs?

Looking at the jays relievers, they were probably looking at Ks minus walks. A lot of people think that is the most predictive stat for pitchers and fisher is the only guy on the jays close to hoffman in that stat. He really was too good to be sent down when he was.

He gave up runs in two of his last 4 outings but that's it. He had 11 scoreless before that. 

At no point has he had a spell as Varland is in right now. He also is just statistically a better pitcher. He strikes people out. Its like we downgraded our pen for no reason.

On a positive note Jeff Hoffman is still outperforming Jordan Romano. Romano is now on the 15-Day IL for "middle finger inflammation"... probably from sticking it up so damn much due to all the insults hurled at him around Philadelphia.

Yeah when he's off he just completely blows up. Been 3-4 outings off the top of my head where it goes from not only a blown save but the other team scores like 3-4 and there is no chance of a comeback in the bottom half of the inning.

Horrendous loss. 

Hoffman was ass, again. He has bottom shelf command and it's sort of the worst kind because he both walks people and gives up meatballs. The other relievers were trash as well. 

The offense was pathetic. Outhitting a team 14-9 and losing 7-5 is unforgiveable. 

The season is over.

Davis Schneider this year

.245/.364/.453 fir a 131 wRC+

Ty France has 70 PA since August 1st and Schneider has 44. Schneider even has 3 bombs and a 162 wRC+ in that limited time. 

If the team wanted a different backup 1B they needed to just be repping Schneider/Lukes/Springer/Barger at 1B for the last few months. Any of them can probably play 1B fine with some reps. 

This is kind of an indefensible downgrade offensively! France is old and washed and just not it. Schneider is 26 and was peaking and they bumped him down for what? 1B defense!?!? What f***ing year is it!!!!!!!!!????????

Giving a washed vetrin to John Schneider is one of the most terrifying things you can do, even more so during a competitive season. Loperfido played some limited 1B in the minors IIRC, so if they wanted someone to stand there in place of Vlad every once in a while then there were internal options that were better or no worse than France. 

Demoting Fisher and then shortening the pen due to an extra starter was a very dangerous scenario, and the worst case has happened with the high leverage guys struggling. Fisher is giving me 2015 Liam Hendriks vibes as a good RP who the manager doesn’t view as one (or doesn’t trust as one). Not sure why he was demoted while Varland is given high leverage spots regardless of performance. Fluharty was the one with options to send down.

The Jays don’t have an easy schedule down the stretch so losing games like last night are back breakers. Hopefully they can win the series tonight.

I wonder why he is getting hit so hard this year. Its kind of untenable for a closer. Very little soft contact.

When the front office trades for people the manager kind of has to play them. That's on the front office. They did manage to downgrade the team at the deadline.
