Wanted to win yesterday to take the pressure off this game but here we are

Let's go Bassitt we need you bro

Fried has been a little shaky in his last 3 starts and he only pitched that one inning in the ASG since July 12th,

Hopefully that means he's rusty instead of rested.

He had a blister issue before the all star break but I think it's cleared up (He's on my fantasty team).  I'm just hoping we have some very long at bats, he only goes 5 innings and gives up a couple, then we have  6th inning breakout.

Will be interesting to see the lineup tonight.

Fried is a lefty with reverse splits so we might see some lefties stick in the lineup. Aka Barger is probably in.

Might see Heineman too as Kirk has caught the last 3 and had his worst game of the season at the plate last night.

Yanks had a more rested bullpen heading into last night's game but that has now reversed.

All of their top guys threw yesterday. Devin Williams and Tim Hill have thrown 3 out of the last 4 days. Weaver threw 30 pitches last night.

Everyone on the Jays is in pretty good shape except for Hoffman who will be unavailable.

Barger better be starting - regardless of the splits

Why would you disregard the splits? It's a SSS but he's so goddam bad against lefties that I think you at least have to consider benching him against LHP from time to time. Zero power, zero contact, etc.

But against a guy like Fried he'll be in.

Sorry for your fantasy team but I hope we score 10 runs in the 1st all charged to him lol

Because you want to give reps to one of your best hitters now so you have enough data come playoff time.  Barger has only been playing at this level for a few months so his numbers prior to then should hold less weight, and hes important enough to want to figure this out.

If we face the Yankees or another team featuring a bunch of lefties in the playoffs, it would suck to not be starting him based on such a small sample size.  Especially when the alternative isnt a major upgrade over him anyways.

Last time the Jays faced Fried (Canada Day), Barger was not in the starting lineup. I really don't think the Jays should be valuing Straw and Jimenez against LHP over Barger. but that seems to be where they are going. Hopefully he is in the lineup tonight.

Of course Clement has a 53 wRC+ against RHP this season yet will challenge Cal Ripken's consecutive games played record at this rate, so splits only matter depending on the player in question, I guess.

Hi might be able to make adjustments and improve his numbers vs lefties just like he added 240 points to his OPS (2024 .601, 2025 .842).   Potential star in the making, challenge him.

Good points everyone. I agree with you guys on developing him but against the Spankees and other big games I think we can consider sitting him against lefties once in a while...for now.

The effective platooning throughout the lineup is one of the key reasons why this has been a top offensive squad since the calendar turned to May. I have zero issues with Barger sitting for a few plate appearances to start a game vs watching him being completely overmatched against tough lefties. This team plays far too many close games with little margin of error and needs to maximize the matchup advantages when it's available to them. Barger is a weapon off of the bench, and the club has shown zero hesitation towards getting him into the game as soon as a right handed matchup is available to them.

I think the primary reason that Clement has faced so many right handed pitchers during his slump is due to Gimenez being on the shelf with an ankle injury. With Wagner playing quite a bit of third base the only real alternatives on the roster for second base duties are Clement, Schneider and Jimenez. Subbing in Jimenez would largely be shuffling the deck chairs swapping one struggling hitter for another, and it appears as though the club prefers using Schneider primarily in left field at this point.

When you look at the lineups we throw out there against lefties it really does make me think we can use another platoon right handed hitter because even if we get healthy, Varsho and Gimenez are left-handed hitters. Between them and Barger that's too many left-handers in the lineup and none of them hit lefties well.

And we can really use Clement breaking out of his current slump.

And if Vlad can actually be a superstar slugger that would be nice, it's asking a lot I know.

Barger grew up batting RH. There is a switch hitter in there waiting to be unlocked.

Remember when Ji Man Choi suddenly decided to try that against us a few years ago?

Struck out in his first at bat and then hit a first pitch rocket into the seats in his second at bat.

I think he did it for like 10 at bats and then never did it again.
