Why would i care about 5.5 years of control of a reliever? its so dumb. This year is our shot and we prioritized 5 years of control of a god damn reliever. the yankees made trades to win the division THIS year. Our front office is fine but it is easily the worst in this division .

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 I'm kinda puzzled by the Ty France thing... Varland is great but... France doesnt even mash lefties ... his only real strength is defense at 1B.
jmomcc Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 This fetish about reliever control... why would i give a f***? they are cheap every single year, year after year after year at the deadline. Just sitting there to be gotten for nothing prospects. But no, we got 5 years of control! Awesome. max silver 1

And yeah, if th cost seems steep its because he's under control for 5.5 years. Becuase its good to have team control of good players. max silver, Brownie19, JaysAllMighty and 2 others 5

jmomcc Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 And what is the point of Vance? Is he going to DH? We have like 4 guys who rotate through there.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Varland is going to make the minimum next season. An arm that caliber would cost 10+M to sign in FA. This kind of thing absolutely matters. max silver, Funky and Spanky__99 3

Cannot believe people think the Yankees had a good deadline Yeah they added some relievers but the rest of it is just a bunch of platoon bats and bench players How did they not add a starting pitcher? I mean hell, we also added two good relievers but we added an SP1 on top of it. The Yankees will be considering Marcus Stroman for playoff games lmao Spanky__99 1

Im not ready to call it a "great" deadline, but.... needs were , Pen help, rotation help, and RH hitter. In that sense, mission accomplished. But is every addition in those categories great??? I'm not sure. I like the relievers, but neither is of the truly "elite" ilk we needed, but either way it makes our pen REALLY deep. Bieber solidifies the rotation very nicely, and if we get his 90th percentile outcome... that's a home run. Ty France.... is .... a RH bat that plays good D at 1b and has fairly neutral career splits and has the speed of Kirk. Not a "great" addition, but it fills a bit of a need for a guy they can just stash on the bench and let him pinch hit and f*ck off for the night. B- deadline grade?
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 lol There is always somebody having an emotional meltdown in these threads. I hate to see Rojas and Roden go, I don't quite get the France addition, but we added two stud late inning relievers and a legit shot at a bona fide ace starter. It's what this team needed the most. Its great to have control of position players and starting pitchers. Relievers are so enigmatic, that control of anyone who isn't elite is not worth much. The only way this works is if he goes back to starting.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 A lefty masher was the only thing they should’ve got that they didn’t. I’d say it was a solid deadline for sure.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Decent trade deadline grade (from me) for these trades: A- They picked up Shane Bieber to stabilize the rotation—he’s not Cy Young-level anymore, but he’s still a solid mid-rotation guy with playoff experience. Seranthony Domínguez adds a big arm to the bullpen; he throws gas and has late-inning experience from Philly’s postseason runs. Ty France gives them a quality right-handed bat who can rotate through 1B/DH and actually get on base—perfect depth for a playoff lineup. And Louie Varland is a sneaky good pickup—former starter who’s thriving as a reliever now, with great stuff in short bursts and reverse splits that could be clutch in October. And years of control left. Didn’t give up top prospects, plugged every major hole. Deadline grade: A– Let’s go. Pinkfloid 1

We paid way way way more than anyone else for comparable relievers for no reason

If he does the job he is supposed to do and it helps the Jays advance, it doesn't really matter what was given up or who the Yankees got instead. The verdict is still out on this one and will be for a little bit.

I think their pen was the biggest need. They made great additions there. They also got a top base stealer for the postseason which is a smart thing to grab if you need to steal a run in a close game. With Gil returning, they now have their front three, Warren and Shlittler take care of the back end.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Atkins got two 8th inning flame throwing high leverage relievers and an ace starter that didn't really seem like a realistic possibility. He kind of low key knocked it out of the park.
