Look, I think the Anthony Santander signing was very solid and happy the Jays went out and got a 30-40 HR masher which is what this lineup badly needed. At the same time, I'm not all of a sudden anointing Atkins as a king just for making this signing. Well Santander is basically paid like Morales was so if the deal goes south in later years it shouldn't be the end of the world.

It's not a bad thing to be happy that the team is being improved later in the offseason with a distinct possibility for further improvements. There's no need to be a giant sourpuss 24/7 on here. Who here is saying this changes their mind on current regime? That this fixes everything? But at least they’re f***ing doing something better than last offseason.

Of course not. We anoint Atkins as a king after he gets Pete Alonso for 3/75 and wins the offseason by getting Alonso, Tony Taters, and Hoffman to sign for dirt cheap. If we get Alonso, I don't give a f*** who gets credit... MY JAYS will be back and entertaining again. Sucks that I got my heart set on getting Alonso or Bregman now. Don't let me downnnnnn.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 The Santander deal has a NPV of like $68M. In an off-season where guys like Max Fried and Willy Adames are getting $200M guaranteed... Just give Boss Atkins his flowers. Stangstag and Spanky99 2

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 More details from MLBTR Anthony Santander’s Contract With Blue Jays Includes Nearly $62MM In Deferrals The Blue Jays finalized their five-year free agent deal with Anthony Santander this week. The deal came with a $92.5MM guarantee but was known to include heavy deferrals. Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith first reported on Monday that MLB calculated the contract’s net present closer to $70MM. Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reported more specifics on the contract structure this afternoon. The NPV landed just under $68.6MM, which comes with an approximate $13.7MM annual competitive balance tax hit. The deal includes $61.75MM in deferred money. The specific layout is as follows: $13.5MM signing bonus ($6.75MM deferred) $13.5MM salary in 2025 ($10MM deferred) $16.5MM salary in 2026 ($10MM deferred) $16.5MM salary in 2027 ($10MM deferred) $14.75MM salary in 2028 ($10MM deferred) $12.75MM salary in 2029 ($10MM deferred) $15MM club option for 2030; guaranteed a $5MM buyout, which would be completely deferred Santander has an opt-out after the ’27 season. He’s owed $60MM over the first three years, so he’d be weighing whether to leave two years and $32.5MM ($25MM of which would be deferred) on the table. If he opts out, Toronto can override that by guaranteeing his 2030 salary at $17.5MM. That would also escalate Santander’s salaries for the 2028 and ’29 seasons to $17.25MM and $15.25MM, respectively. The maximum value is $110MM over six years — which would only be reached if Santander opts out and the Jays override it.

They’re taxed at a 20% rate on spending between $241MM and $261MM. They’re close to the $261MM cutoff. Adding Santander likely comes with around a $3MM tax hit for the upcoming season. Toronto would be taxed at a 32% clip for spending between $261MM and $281MM.

BB17 Verified Member Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 People get way too caught up in ST. Every year there are guys rake in ST and stink in the regular season and vice versa. Santander has a track record of being a good hitter, 3 games in ST isn't going to change that lol.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 I dunno guys, it has been a whole entire 6 ABs of spring training already, plenty of time to come to a definite conclusion about a player they just signed and completely write him off using a 34 year old DH the Jays signed 8 years ago as a comparison.
